DDO? hot damn! I might not be a huge Eberron fan, but I loved some of the class skills in that game, the level of traps/enchantments in dungeons was a lot of fun. Any who~, its cool to hear some one "connect" with the game as it were, I still hit rocky patches as I cling to a few of my 1.0 desires, but an engaging world was certainly provided and it deserves to be explored. This is a lengthy, well written and comprehensive guide to "roleplay" sounds kind of nebulous, but if you dig into it a bit, maybe skim to the parts you feel you'd like a second opinion on, you'll find an informative outline rife with suggestions, examples and ideas.
But onto the communities, maybe you just want to jump in and get the proverbial feet wet.

"Intermission" is an OOC linkshell dedicated to roleplayers, in a general sense getting to know each other. It serves a lot of different specific roles, finding where people might be, finding out what they might be up to, if they're open to people joining them ect.

"Balmungs Finest" is to help with the Dungeon itch, if you get those.. I do, I think somethings going around. Particularly with the necessity of Dungeon completion for GC rank ups and story parts, the Finest provide a server based source of people, all the way from Brayflox to Titan!
Hope that gives you an idea of whats out there, maybe give you something you hadn't considered. If nothing else there are plenty of people here who will be willing to answer questions that you might have.
