
I don't think there's anything wrong with this in social RP, seeing as you have a narrative reason for it. Such commitment will likely start some conversations ("Why are you wearing that with full plate armor?"). That said, in combat situations, opting out of more effective armor for personal reasons is definitely going to provoke some (likely negative) reactions ICly. OOC, it's especially problematic, because it's disadvantaging yourself and your group for the purposes of RP. With a group you're familiar with and is okay with it, it's not a big deal, but others might view it as crossing a red line (RP should not impact gameplay).
