This is a fantasy game. We're calling down meteors from the sky, fighting dragons and slimes and zombies. We're riding chicken horses. Why complicate something with such highly scientific real world rules when there is a perfectly reasonable way to wave off something like that: Magical fantasy world.
Some of us don't really like applying the "IT'S MAGIC" clause to everything in game, though. The passage of time in game is simply for the benefit of the players. It's a game mechanic and as with many other game mechanics, can be ignored by RPers in favor of real-world time. I usually just say EST time is Eorzea Standard Time to keep it simple when I RP. XD
