K'mih understood K'tahjha's initial reply as disappointment about not having seen K'ailia, still unaware of what had actually happened the previous day. Her own tone also sounded slightly melancholic.

She still remembered the coldness in her father's eyes as he emerged from the tent with her sister. It wasn't everyday that K'mih would fear his father, but that day she sure did.
