#1: Â You may not play a dragon, the descendant of a dragon, or anything dragon-related. Â It may seem cool to play a dragon at first. Â You wouldn't know, at first, that you've literally become the joke at that point.
Quote:#2: Â Your brooding must be limited in scope. Â If you sit in the shadowy corner, keeping to yourself, eyeing everyone bitterly, well.... people will leave you alone and not RP with you. Â They know already that any RP with you isn't going to leave them room to brood themselves.Mostly true. I can't find much to argue with here. Sometimes it's fun to just poke at this sort of character until they run away or crack though : P.
Quote:#3: Â Do not produce your own flask/bottle from your bag and drink it in the bar. Â That makes no damn sense. Â It'd be like walking into a McDonalds and pulling out a chili cheese burrito.Dude! What good pirate/alcoholic doesn't have booze on them at any given time? What if you're just there to hang out and you want a drink, but you're a cheapskate? Pocket booze, man.
Quote:#4: Â Keep all your ERP in PMs. Â I don't care about immersion, characterization, or realism. Â Do not undress your character in the game world and sit them down in an empty room. Â The reason this rule is unspoken is because you'd think it should go without saying. Â It doesn't. Â Keep your clothes on, do all ERP in PMs, and make sure you are responding to the right person (and not dumping it accidentally in /say) when you post.Yeah ok, can't argue with that like at aaallll. On the flip-side, don't assume every couple chilling quietly off in a corner is ERpin'. Maybe they're whispering about puppies. Don't judge.
Quote:#5: Â If you aren't ready to have your ass kicked, don't threaten anyone or talk about them behind their backs. Â Just because you have discretion over your character doesn't mean people will take you seriously if you're starting a fight every time you walk into a bar.Consequences man! They're real! Aren't we going for realism here!? Minus, you know.. the magic.. and animals that don't exist and... well, a lot of other stuff... Still! If you mouth off, get ready to guard your teeth!
Quote:#6: Â Don't get bigger than your in-game britches. Â If you're a level 10, be ready to be called out by a level 50. Â You may not think it's fair, but no one is going to treat you like an unstoppable ninja if you're just a level 5 pugilist.A agree and disagree with this. In a perfect world, everyone would just be REASONABLE, but this is so often not the case ; ;. If it's in your characters background to be a ninja and you're level 5.. ok maybe just.. keep it under wraps for a while and be a ninja later. Maybe I'll play along, though, if you're REASONABLE with your demands! On the flip side, a number of us have all 50s (me, me, me!), but my character is not a master at arms. You're not a god if you have all 50s!
Quote:#7: Â If you want to be taken seriously, and you're not playing an old man, have one or both of your parents be alive. Â Most roleplayers will eventually start to roll their eyes at the shocking mortality rate of Eorzea if all our parents died to beast tribes. To be fair, Eorzea is in like cooonstant war times. If it makes sense for your parents to be dead and you want em to be dead.. kill em! Maybe keep your parents around and kill em in a plot later! Send them away to an unnamed, far off land to avoid the calamity! So many things you can do with NPC parents...
Quote:#8: Â If you tell people you have a price on your head, that is an open invitation to be stalked and have your ass kicked at inopportune moments. Â Avoid it by being a smart criminal.YES! Oh. My. God. Please don't tell me you're an assassin in the middle of the adventurer's guild. Secrets are secrets for a reason! Keep them and only tell people you trust, it's much more fun.
Quote:#9: Â Never say a thing like, "women desire him." Â No they don't. Â That's a profound misunderstanding of women. Â Ugly men throughout history have been more attractive than any of us simply by force of personality. Â That's not something you can dictate. Â Just say he's handsome, let the women desire him if you can pull it off. This seems sexist >.> Rather than stating this, though, why not make it come to pass. Be desirable if you want people to think of your character as such. Don't just say it. If you want your character to be a playboy, BE a playboy. Same goes with everything from slut to prude and things that have nothing to do with "desire" : P.
If you're a woman, you can say, "men desire her." Â That is not a misunderstanding of men. Â It may be a misunderstanding of "desire", but not of men.
Quote:#10: Â There is no better way to get yourself despised by other roleplayers faster than the OOC hissy fit. Â Do not get other people involved in your OOC drama with other players. Â Do not threaten to leave the game if people don't make your character feel better. Â Definitely don't spend more time complaining OOC than posting IC. Â If "everyone" seems like they aren't roleplaying correctly, the problem isn't them. Â The problem is you. This seems pretty accurate. I dub it 12 year old syndrome. My apologies to the twelve year olds out there that aren't crazy like this. : P
