“My gratitude, Byron.” Kiht said as she started to slap her twitching leg. She slowly started to move her left leg, it was already starting to regain control.

They were now safely behind a large tree trunk. It was good cover, but would not last for long. The Seeker archer had not been able to take aim on them during that ordeal.

“Swive it all!” The Seeker said in an irritated tone.

Kiht had seen them both, but could not tell which clan they belonged to. A Miqo'te archer, and a Lalafell caster. They could not be Faces of Mercy. There was no way. However, they were likely hired by them. Kiht had thought.

It did not matter really. Two ranged attackers. Kiht unstrapped her short-bow. She was the only one who could return fire. She closed her eyes and prayed that she was now skilled enough with the bow to be a match for them. She stood to her feet. The expression on her face betrayed her anger. Her ears were pinned back as she gritted her teeth. Her sharp canines became evident as her lips parted.

“I am fine.” She said in a stern tone.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Seeker looked to the Lalafell with a scornful expression, but he did not even regard her.

“Bah! Behind a tree huh? I'll flush em out!” He said as he started to march forward. He boldly marched into the road, and out in the open. He closed some distance, but was still no where near melee range from where Byron and Kiht took cover. “Hiding are we?” He said as he charged up a spell.

Of course, without line of sight he could not hit them. But, he started casting lightning bolts at the tree they were using for cover. They would not be hit with lightning, and the Lalafell knew it. He wanted to try to scare them. He loved causing fear and pain. He specialized in torture. That was his style; bitterly dragging the fight out at the misfortune of his victims. He started laughing manically as he cast bolt after bolt at the tree.

The Seeker did not like his style at all, but she was a trained killer. She would take advantage of the situation. Use the Lalafell to cause an opportune moment for her to strike.

She quickly planned it out. The Lalafell would eventually run out of aether. The moment that happened they would charge him. Or, they may even charge him before then. She would take one down with an arrow at that point. She just had to wait. To bide her time.

She wasn't worried about her companion. He was trained in many magic arts. He could use umbral ice to regenerate aether. He would be limited to ice spells; but essentially, he could cast magic for a long while.

The sun was setting, and she knew it, but they still had nearly half a bell. The Lalafell would have to switch to umbral ice in less than ten minutes if he kept up his attacks. The Seeker figured this would be over long before the sun set. The end of a perfect day; the death of her targets.

However, her plans quickly changed when Kiht came around the trunk with her own short-bow.

“She has a bow?!” The Seeker said with in a surprised tone.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kiht took a snap-shot at the Lalafell. He was expecting a retaliation. He threw his scepter into quick swinging motion that caused a magical disruption in the air in front of him. Kiht's arrow was veered off course. The Seeker quickly returned fire, but Kiht was already moving back behind the tree at that point. The Seeker's arrow missed Kiht's head by ilms.

Kiht let out an abrupt growl as she slammed her back against the tree. If only she could concentrate a series of arrow shots at the Lalafell, she could probably overwhelm him. However, there was no way to do that with the Seeker watching and ready. The Miqo'te archer had to be taken down.

“Byron, please distract the Lalafell, I do not care how you do it. Just keep him busy as I go after the archer.” She said in a rushed voice.

Kiht knew what she had to do. A game of forest combat was in order. Kiht would use the trees, rocks, brush and shadows of the forest as cover while moving to close the distance. During this ordeal, the two would exchange arrow shots in an attempt to restrict the movements of each other. Kiht assumed her foe was a fellow Keeper. She had to assume her foe was familiar with this type of combat. It is how all in the Twelveswood fought. The varying terrain elevations, and all the cover meant it was the only way archers could fight. As long as Byron kept the Lalafell distracted, Kiht would have a chance to close in on the Miqo'te archer.

Kiht prepared to leave the cover of the tree to head in the other direction that would take her away from the road into more tree and brush cover. If Byron surveyed his environment he would notice a few things aside from trees and brush. He may not have been a ranged fighter, but maybe something in the environment could help him.

Upon inspection of his surroundings, Byron might notice some loose stones on the ground next to him. On his side of the road, not too far from his position, was a small strange-looking tree that was very different from all the epic trees of the Shroud. This one was about the size of an Aevis. It had a thick misshapen trunk, randomly arranged branches and what looked like the outline of an inhuman face on the trunk. It was currently motionless.

On the opposite side of the road, Byron might notice a sleeping Banemite! The huge vilekin were known to be heavy sleepers that were not usually roused unless something or someone was crazy enough to strike the creatures while they slept. The day had been a hot and dry day in the Shroud, so the dirt on the road was loose and dry at that moment.

Kiht would make her move soon. Hopefully, Byron would think of some way to deal with the caster before he had a chance to cast anything at Kiht.
