Give you a connection to the character after having to spend more time building that character, therefore making you more attached and more interested in continuing. HOWEVER, in the western mindset of gameplay that will not fly more than likely. I don't mind it as I will be playing hardcore enough, but am never interested in shooting up levels in an abnormally short amount of time.
This is true, most westerners want to be the highest level they can be as fast as possible. I've always enjoyed wandering around to grinding. I actually don't get how people can enjoy grinding, it just gets so boring after a while. Usually, the only reason I leveled up in WoW is because you had to be a certain level to be able to craft higher level items. From what I have seen with FFXIV here is that you actually don't have to fight at all, you can just level yourself up with crafting and material farming. :study:
Although, I can understand how grinding can be a good thing: Say you have friends that are quite a few levels above you and you want to play with them at their level? Time to grind. This is when I got to lvl 20 in a day with my all powerful Magical Gummy Bear Drink (Not made with real gummy bears. No gummy bears were hurt in the making of this post.)
I seem to have lost my pie cutter.
