Nathan and his troupe/family were deep in the outer Shroud when the Battle of Carteneau happened, and didn't know about it for some time, save through rumors and stories soon told.

However, it was very likely the weakening of the Elementals that allowed the Ixal far enough into the settled areas of the Shroud to perpetrate the raid that led to his troupe's demise.

Verad used to brag that he was at the Battle of Carteneau and could have won the thing if he'd had five more minutes. He stopped that after Carteneau vets kept getting mad at him for it.

As for the truth, who knows? Maybe on this one point he's actually telling it.

This was something that, during the very last quest of 1.0 "Living on a Prayer," these select Adventurers agreed to do when the time came. It was these, and only these, Adventurers who were time skipped after Louisoux's spell failed and Tupismati was shattered. So unless you were in the domed off area that appears in the cutscene, it's highly unlikely that you were also time-skipped.

I want to frame this and hang it on a wall somewhere. Thanks, Souns.

That makes sense.

I had been playing with te idea that the Moon Keeper clan she was raised with were working with the Girdanians at the Battle, and my little Miqo'te's family were  attached to the  forces. She nearly died of course. Nearly, but was saved perhaps literally by falling into  crevase, during Bahamut's attack. Of course. She nearly died.

Saved by Scavengers picking the battle field.

Leanne was in her 11-12 years of age and sleeping peacefully when there was an little earthquake and the distant sounds of boom. Aka...she just had an basic idea of what happened a day after when she saw the destruction made in the Shroud by Dalamud. Besides that and a few lifestyle changes, she wasn't affected that much.

John's sister Tanya was one of the adventurers that didn't make it out of Carteneu.  John himself was 15 and if not for Carteneu taking place, his parents would have let him start as an adventurer as well.  I guess that the family would probably be one of the luck ones that actually got a body back to bury.

For Kest, she was about 18 when the battle to place.  She was on a boat with her teacher Alex, deep in her training.  The boat was far enough from Limsa that the major damage but they both saw the attack on Limsa.  The next two years were spent on readying her for path, until someone from Ala Mhigo show up in Limsa, and he took off before he was recognized as Ala Mhigan.

I'm going to do most of Alex background when Kest get her monk gear.

As with most legacy players, my FC had to decide if we were getting time skipped or not. The general consensus as the time here and everywhere else was you could - and that hasn't really changed we just learned it would be harder - so we came up with a story of the old guard (Called the Crimson Blades) so they could be there if they wanted too. Most of our members chose to time skip (Only had 10 at the time who were legacy), while a few opted out and one deciding while she was at the battle, she didn't time skip.

I chose the skip. I wanted to revamp Armi from a priestess to someone trying to find their own life and thought the skip would be an interesting Catalyst. It really really has been.

I don't believe our little sept of the Jackal tribe would have had any presence at Carteneu.  Life went on that day, and the chaos that ensued was dealt with on a day to day basis.  Certainly there would have been plenty to deal with!

I do have a couple of untouched Legacy alts however, a Lalafell PLD and a Miqo CON, who were most definitely present at the time... I just need to work out what to do with them.

It is interesting to hear, all these different lives of the characters. And they're existances. Poor Yhisa she's so confused.

Admittedly, I RPed the timeskip simply because I thought it a good tool for 1.0 players to transfer seamlessly to ARR. Besides the initial RP with a couple of close friends, it really has little bearing on my overall roleplay, though. Yves will never speak of Carteneau, and if asked his age, these days the confusion has passed and he'll say 30 instead of 25. Tongue

I never actually played 1.0 but I have decided to use the timeskip as part of Daniwyda's back story. This was mainly due to the type of character I wished to play.

I created Dani in an attempt to move away from the young and inexperienced characters that I had played before her. While it is certainly fun to play out the explorations and discoveries of a youth, I wanted to try a different perspective and perhaps move towards teaching someone else's green adventurer. I knew that I wanted a character in her late thirties or forties, with plenty of life experience, However she would also need the freedom to travel and get into adventures, without the responsibilities of a family to tie her down. In most game settings there are three ways to do this.

1) The character's family was lost to some tragedy.
2) The character has chosen to distance themselves from their family.
3) The character never settled down at all. They live the rover's life, with no family ties.

Number one is probably used the most frequently and I have certainly used it myself. However in my opinion it is a little overused and it is beginning to loose it's appeal. The other two depend heavily on your character's personality and both raise interesting questions. I may have tried either, if FF14 had not presented me with a third very intriguing option.

4) The character's family have completely forgotten her name and face. They believe that she died five years ago and have slowly moved on with their lives, leaving her effectively alone.

It is a fascinating dynamic that I would never have the chance to explore outside of this universe. It fit the archetype that I had set for my character, while allowing me to keep her family alive and well, with the possibility of future reconciliation.

Once I had decided that I wanted Dani to time skip, I set about working it into her storyline. She does have the echo, and was contacted by The Path of the Twelve, but never joined them officially. Her first loyalty has always lain with Limsa. So she fought at Carteneu under the Malestrom and not as an adventurer. Unfortunately the chaos of a massive battle rarely follows the designs of it's generals. Dani was separated from her unit early on, and never received Merlwyb's order to reinforce the left flank. Instead she found herself in the center, supporting this hodge podge collection of adventurers, when all hells broke loose.

I realize that I may tread on a few toes, with my decision to play a character that skipped forwards and therefore has the echo. It could definitely come to bite me, if someone ever asks to see her tattoo. So I pay particular attention to keeping Dani's skills and abilities reasonable and hardly ever touch her echo. I made my choice simply for story reasons and I'm pretty happy with it.
