I'm pretty sure that's just a Miqo'te child. Though Miqo'fell would be awesome and I'd play one for sure.

Welp. First Hilda and now her. Hybrids 99% confirmed.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, that is just a normal Miqo'te child. The developer comment re: Lalafells was an aside in reference to how certain people, roleplayers included, choose to play Lalafells as substitutes for character models of children. "Their heads are too big to use them as kids," essentially.
I don't see "Lalafell-Miqo'te hybrid" anywhere in that dev comment. |

"Their heads are too big to use them as kids," essentially.I, for one, choose to interpret the "please look forward to future development" on a question about whether or not we will be able to choose such a character as a new race in the future as "this is in the cards", and the Lalafell comment was just too far out of left field to not be relevant to the character. Plus, she's in Idyllshire unaccompanied by a guardian (look at the place! That is no place for children!) wearing a robe for DoM and has noticeably Lalafell-shaped eyes. The kid in Mor Dhona, on the other hand, is wearing typical peasant clothing and actually has her mother present in-game (and also has unusual eyes and fangs that lead me to believe she may be a Keeper-Seeker hybrid): Edit: And don't forget this poll showing a huge interest for playable hybrids (with it being the most wanted option in Japan and second highest everywhere else): http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/46936 |

I wouldn't consider it out of left field when a question regarding availability of child models for use elicited an aside that specifically addressed current use of a particular race as a substitute for children... but I guess that's up to interpretation of the response. *shrugs*

Her face does look very different from the one that is certainly a Miqo'te child.
Her attire, face shape, stubby tail, lack of guardian, presence in Idyllshire, and the comment... I can't help but lean towards her being a Lalafell/Miqo'te hyrbid. |

I want to disagree, because I am almost certain that is just another Miqo'te child, but I can't deny that her stubby tail draws serious attention. I noticed it the first time I saw the screen shot, and I've never found the girl in Mor Dhona yet, but if her tail isn't stubby, then I think there's a story behind that pink haired catgirl. Whether or not she's a hybrid remains to be seen. Her ears look BIGGER than a normal Miqo'te's but they are also shaped differently. Then again, the ears look similar to the child in Mor Dhona. Also, Mithra children in FFXI had different shaped ears than the adults too, also cute stripes on their.... fur? Did they have fur? I'm getting off topic.
Either way this has become an interesting mystery for sure. ======================================================================

Her ears look bigger because the ears are one of the first parts of a cat that physically matures. Spend a lot of time around kittens and you'll notice their ears will often be out of proportion with their heads.

Well allgivenover confirmed it, the kid in Mor Dhona also has a stubby tail, so that's a trait of Miqo'te children apparently.
It's still a bit curious, however, since that could easily also be a trait of half breeds. Given the nature of Lalafell, I wouldn't put it past them for Lala-hybrids to just end up looking like children of the larger races. The more curious thing is why they would say "please look forward to future development" if they have absolutely no intention of making playable children, on a question that specifically asks whether or not they will be playable (as a race, not as children). I can't parse anything from that statement other than "a playable race that looks like that will be coming". Could be a new race for all I know, but something in that vein is probably coming down the pipe. |

The answer to that question was really confusing. I sincerely doubt they will ever allow children to be playable. That just isn't going to happen. So what does it mean then? There's a very good chance that we are just looking too much into the vague response. I'm certain both of those NPCs are just NPC children like you see all over the cities for other races.
And that's not quite what I meant about the ears. Yes I have been told that cat's ears grow faster than their heads. But those ears on the children aren't even the same shape, and they look bigger than the adult Miqo'te ears. ======================================================================

She's the same height, body shape, and facial profile as the one in Mor Dhona, and has the same tail stub.
Perhaps the comment was just unintentionally misleading. I dunno? Maybe? If not for the comment I wouldn't have thought of her as anything but a mysteriously placed Miqo'te child. |

Regarding the "children will never playable", I'd like to point out at FFXI, where we are able to receive child "glamours", under which we simply cannot fight monsters or use abilities. We can wander around and emote with them, exactly like children who cannot fight. So I wouldn't think it'd be too far of a stretch to give the same feature to XIV as well.
To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.
"What makes a strong character is how they deal with their flaws, their fears, their turmoils, their troubles that get in the way. That's what makes them relatable." -- N.C. |
