Retcons I leave as a very last dramatic things to do. It really, really has to super silly roleplay, like legit idiotic stuff for me to retcon it. So far on FFXIV it hasn't happened yet! If roleplay gets cut short, I tend to just discuss things briefly OOC, whenever the other play and I both have time for it.

However, skimming further down your post, I totally understand the perils you are facing! One character of mine had her other half poofing due to real life troubles. We did however talk about it, and got things sorted. I think communication is the key. If it doesn't happen, and the other person just poofed without a reason, and no contact to be found OOC (some people do ragequit the game after all), I think it is in all your right to write an ending to that story line. Having the other one gone missing, thinking the other one is dead ect, whatever works for you. Eorzea is 'thankfully' full with dangers so it isn't hard conjuring up something.

Of course if you'd rather ignore the development, positively and negatively, for your character and sooner retcon it? That's fully in your right as well. I just wouldn't do it myself Smile

I've been in this situation too many times and it absolutely kills my enjoyment of RP and has given me some nasty trust issues (luckily not a marriage but other character connections). Save yourself the grief and retcon. They don't deserve a place in your story when it was clearly not as important to them.

If they cant afford you the courtesy of discussing how to tie up loose ends, they can go to hell. If they come back and want to resume the plot when you've moved on, they can go to hell. If anyone takes issue with your retcon, they can go to hell.

But, if widow/estranged wife RP is fun for you, roll with it and enjoy.

I'd like to thank everyone for the valuable input and useful words you have all put in. I really appreciate everyone's advice, and I'm really happy that people decided to help me out with this predicament of mine. Smile

In the end, however, I'm seeing retcon as the best path for Eleni and my ability to RP her. So, I think I shall do just that.

But, thankies once again, everyone! Bouncy
