Crisiet couldn't care less about gender if he tried. He lived and fought alongside both female and male knights and as such never gave it too much thought. He himself tends to be disinterested in romantic relations as well, so that isn't a factor when speaking to people either.

This is an interesting question, one I hadn't really considered. Â Mijisaa was raised primarily by her father but, as the eldest without a mother, she took on the role as mistress of the house and mother-figure. Â As the heir though of a rather rough family, she couldn't be protected in ways a father would look out for a daughter and therefore grew up quite fast. Â Being the first woman to lead her family, she is very aware that people are watching for feminine weaknesses particularly. Â She doesn't see one gender as superior to the other and that reflects in the very equal marriage she has with Pipituu. I actually think she would have a dislike more of particularly submissive women or aggressive men, traits she rather despises.

John Spiegel: Treats everyone equally unless they give him a reason not to... imagine that one dwarf or viking that is outrageously wordy and laughs a lot.. that's a pretty good sum up of JJ. Sometimes he treats young people differently than others (pats them on the head or whatnot) but does not discriminate based on male or female. He, of course, does have his perverted side that slips out, along with his usual random quips. "Dirty old man!!!!" Most of the time it's an innocent misunderstanding as John words things differently, or not. JJ is as JJ does!

Alex Spiegel: (son of John, brother of Grace) He's polite... to the point at times where it's annoying to some. Having a sister and a mother that is/was rather strong and independent helped mold his view that it doesn't matter what organs one has for them to be strong or respected. He's by far the romantic of the family in that he sees more than just physical strength or appearance at first glance. When he met his fiance, he lamented in his journal of her beauty and whatnot, later discovering she had quite the ability of egi-summoning then swordplay when she decided to stop the aether-use.

So Alex may initially look at females in a benevolent awe or some physical manner, he is quick to form additional opinions of them.

Grace Spiegel (son of John, sister of Alex): She has a particular disdain for men that flaunt some physical strength or think they're the best thing since warm mead. She has an equal disdain for women that act helpless. Her and her brother were raised in a small village of monks in Gyn Abania where your ability was all that mattered. On top of having two strong parents, John and Emilynn where Emilynn was and is her number one role model.. she was a highly traditional Highlander, that, upon meeting John, who forsook his birthright and nation, fell in love much to the initial chagrin of her father. John and his future step-father fought almost to the death out of some benign pride thing with her father (note: JJ was more interested in fighting a legend than the whole fight for her honor thing) that Emilynn put a stop to.. not because she was afraid of them killing each other but because she was pissed at the whole fight for her honor thing!

That was a little long-winded but suffice to say Grace has a sharper opinion on the sexes than her brother or father. As a result, those that have run into her in taverns probably think "Gee, what a b^&$@!"

Aeriyn treats people about the same regardless of what they are. Her mind's too busy calculating magical formulae and equations to concern herself too much with these issues. She just doesn't seem to give sex or gender any real thought outside of romance, where she's clearly more attracted to females who express a feminine gender.

K'airi is somewhat rude toward and derisive of men, especially male miqo'te, due to her sexual orientation and upbringing in a Seeker tribe. Eventually, she would have been eventually expected to mate with the nuhn--in fact, this pressure was exactly what drove her to abandon the dunes of her homeland and travel to the Shroud. While sex without attraction is fairly common in such a social structure, K'airi is disgusted by even the mere thought of it.

Objectively. Gender presents a hosts of differences between individuals besides the obvious in physiology; Sophia uses that.

...but just because she's slightly robotic doesn't mean she's not interested.

It has been mixed for him. As an adolescent he had joined a pirating crew who spent time in bars and surrounding himself with wenches. His crewmates forced a dirty mind on him. It very much marred his perception on women...that was of course until he was out of his element and normal women weren't anything like tavern wenches.

But, after losing his original crew it kind of helped him gain some perspective on life. Whilst some things never change, he would love a lass sat on his lap, but he actually has learned to be more gentlemanly and has a greater respect for women and has had many serve under him (not in that way, you dirty people). Plus he has to female faeries judging his every move. But I think since recovering from alcoholism (well, I use 'recover' loosely) I think he has mellowed out a bit. It also helped stir up a couple of mother issues, I suppose on the account of his mother and brother being murdered a couple of months back - he never got to set things right for her.

Regardless, you get him in the right frame of mind and he might misbehave.

I suppose also on the gender topic, he is actually effeminate himself, he was quite comfortable in drag, whilst it was uncomfortable seducing a Yellow Jacket on the account of him not swinging that way, he is the more feminine of my characters, which is saying some because 2 of my characters are female.

X'hayu Nhokhi

With X'hayu I made her a Miqo'te on purpose, cat girls quite frequently are sexualised and usually have something related to sex in their background and I was going for a battle maiden and thought it would be nice to have a cat-girl who is badass - she will one day ride on the back of a Behemoth when I decide fit.

Whilst I think SE hasn't gone full on 'sexy cat girl' as we have warrior women in the Miqo'te race who aren't sexing people up (like the FATE in Costa), to be fair to them they've sussed out a balance. But, I decided I would exploit the battle maiden in X'hayu as a Miqo'te and I am glad she won't be like the only Miqo'te like that. It's not really a statement of any kind, but it has influenced my race choice, which I am happy with as I've found the lore interesting - given Saefinn is a Keeper and was also somewhat removed from lore based on family history.

Her attitude to the opposite sex is mostly neutral - it will depend on how they treat her. Most of the time, she doesn't like the perverted nature of some males, if you tried hitting on her, ho boy, you're screwed and not in the good way. In this sense, she is a big contrast to Saefinn, in fact, she finds him unbearable. But, she's not the kind of over generalize either, she doesn't look down on the opposite sex as people who are out for sex.

I also went down the route of making her a virgin, not for innocent and purity or something abstinence and keeping it holy, particularly in the fact of her becoming a Paladin. It's to do with her life being very much a tragedy, in that she was kidnapped by Garlean forces, torn from the hands of the man she loved and was indoctrinated and joined their army. She of course ended up killing him. She tried to get him to fight for the 'right' side, but he tried reasoning with her instead and she couldn't bear to see him become her enemy and made the first shot. She's also been responsible for a lot of pain and suffering on the account of being involved with the Garlean empty. But she has defected and with a very simple goal: to do her best to make up for her wrongs. She now lives by the Paladin code and earn her title through selfless deeds, but she does not live for pleasure, even though others try to force her...she even managed to attend a ladies' night and was peer pressured into a swim suit - the account of there being no men helped - though she was ready to grab her sword when a peeping-tom showed.

But she really has no interest in herself and she could never love again - this is why she's so hostile when it comes to males interested in her - it brings up too much pain. She's not always hostile though, she can be quite kind and at times generous.

Other characters?

They're only minor, they serve as a place in a plot, so I will summarise them in smaller chunks.

Steinn Wynfyd - he had a wife, but left her when he defected, like X'hayu, from the Garlean Empire. They have a close working relationship and have the same goals. So he's more focused on his business and righting his wrong than idle pleasures. But he is considerably more laid back. He used to be on Saefinn's crew, so it probably brought that out in him.

Oskar Thunderbrand - He's one of my antagonist and whilst he is a terrible person and incredibly dishonest and deceitful, he enjoys companionship. In fact, he has a woman in his life, whilst he's lying to her face, she tends to him and he enjoys her company. In one sense I think that's more fueled by his ego, she makes him feel good about himself...even if the stories he tells her are lies. I would say he treats the opposite gender in any special way or the same gender. After what happened in Ala Mhigo it left him cruel and bitter. Well I suppose you could say women only bring out what goodness is left of him, except X'hayu, he remembers her well and has a special price for her head.

Lenu Lenunu - She's my Lalafell, I would say she's neutral. Very little is known at this point of her motives and she tends to view people on their merits and gender doesn't come into play. She's also a lone wanderer, why? Well, I'm getting started on that arc. Wink

The only character I have that has any kind of difference in her actions towards one sex or the other is K'airos, who just gets nervous in the pressence of unknown men in a very childish "That's a cute boy! Oh,he's looking at-me-he-must-know-I-think-he's-cute-Ihavetorunawayrunaway RUN AWAY!" way. She gets over it after a short time, though.

Eva doesn't discriminate between men and women when establishing friendships. Â Instead the quality of a character means more to her and how aligned that is with her own more conservative and traditional upbringing. Â She values things like kindness, compassion, dedication, and loyalty.Â Â Flipside of same coin, she is put off by qualities such as arrogance, infidelity (or what she perceives to be infidelity), dishonesty, and such.Â She tries to maintain an open mind with regard to situations such as open relationships and tribal cultures, but it goes against the grain of how she grew up so it's a source of confusion and discomfort for her, in spite of her best efforts.

As a heterosexual woman she is aware of her attraction to men and does have a particular 'type' she is more drawn to than others, though this hasn't prevented a certain amount of deviation in the past for various reasons (the heart wants what it wants, etc.) Â At most she might exhibit a bit more bashfulness than usual around a man that she considers particularly striking. Â Among women she is, in a way, passively trying to fill a void left when her "bestie" passed away awhile back. Â She has encountered some difficulty in this, as there have been so few characters who have breached that comfort level with her to be bluntly honest and direct in that well-intentioned way best friends often can be with each other. Â She is generally not physically attracted to women, but it bears mention that there was one who at one point made her question this to a certain degree. Â On the whole though, Eva evaluates people on the content of their character more than anything else.

We don't really have alts we play regularly, but our other character Ben (who only gets a very limited amount of RP face-time unfortunately) is much more pragmatic and also doesn't discriminate between the genders. Â To him, people - male or female alike - are generally seen as assets of varying levels of usefulness independent of their gender. Â That's not to say that gender might come into play when leveraging a particular situation (for example befriending a beautiful woman with the intent of utilizing her to manipulate someone else).

This is actually one of the first things I came up with when making Brennus's character. Put simply, Brennus is afraid of women. He grew up in an extremely isolated environment, which is to say, smack dab in the middle of nowhere (think somewhere in Coerthas, (probably) the outskirts of Ishgard). The only other living being he had around (that wouldn't try to eat/maim him) was an elderly Elezen Duskwight who fostered him when he was a wee infant. From what Brennus can remember of his childhood (and that is very, very little) the Elezen didn't talk much. In fact, he can't remember a time when the Elezen spoke more than a sentence at a time. As a result, Brennus was more often than not left to his own devices. It wasn't until he was ten that he finally got some interaction with actual people. A few months after the Elezen died, leaving Brennus on his own in their little cabin in the woods (I hate using that term, stupid horror movies), a Dragoon passing through the area happened upon his hut and offered to welcome Brennus into his family of two, including himself. Brennus was never taught the ins and outs of "Stranger Danger," so he agreed quite readily. Even after he began living with his new adoptive father and his butler, Brennus still kept interaction with other people very limited. I would go as far as to say that both genders make him pretty uncomfortable, though that's more of an "I don't know you" kinda thing than genders really (I digressed really badly here oops). He definitely feels more comfortable around males than females, simply because that's what he grew up around. Although he certainly had female Dragoon comrades, they knew well enough to keep their distance. Being around women in general makes Brennus flustered enough, but when they're trying to come on to him, it doesn't make for a pretty picture.

His first "official" confrontation with more than one woman at a time (and when he wasn't hiding behind his adoptive father) was when he was 18. His fellow Dragoons took him to a pub to celebrate his promotion to Dragoon. He doesn't remember much of the encounter, but it seems some Courtesans had take a liking to him. In his effort to avoid them, he managed to knock over two tables, elbow one unfortunate Miqo'te in the nose, and trip over three chairs before landing face-first in a Roegadyn woman's bosom. As the poor boy was terribly flustered and hopelessly drunk, she let him off easy with one black eye, a broken nose, and a horribly, horribly bruised ego. Brennus wouldn't talk to his comrades for days afterward. [1]

The effect of the pretty Roegadyn's ass-whooping (well, maybe it wasn't quite that harsh) still lingers to this day. Everytime he encounters a woman, he suddenly becomes extremely tense and twitchy, whether or not they're being kind to him. He'll definitely warm to them more quickly if they are in fact nice to him, but he always makes sure that there's at least 10 feet between him and the unfortunate woman/women. While Brennus by no means intends to convey any disrespect towards women (in fact, he holds quite a bit of respect for them), the fact that they make him uncomfortable as all hell makes him avoid them like the plague (well, he tries, at least). To give him credit, over the years of his adventuring, he's grown to become more used to women.

(WOW that was long for just women. Now it's the boys' turn)

Brennus definitely feels much, much more comfortable around men. Neither I nor him know the reason exactly, but it's most likely due to the fact that he was raised by men all his life, and a big chunk of his Dragoon comrades were men. (Trivia Time: Brennus was originally planned to be a panromantic asexual, but then it hit me that it's hard to be panromantic when you're afraid of women. In the end, he ended up becoming a homoromantic asexual.) Due to his severe lack of communication and interaction with people, Brennus is a really, really awkward guy. It's exceptionally difficult for him to pick up on social cues, so if some poor sap decides to pick Brennus as his target, well, all I can tell the guy is good luck. Brennus is also what one would call "brutally honest." He doesn't do it on purpose, but he was never taught the haphazard art of subtlety. He's sent a number of men fleeing with their tails between their legs without having a single clue why. It's a shame, really, because a few of them were rather handsome.

That's all I got for now. This was more of a "how Brennus feels around x gender" rather than "how Brennus treats x gender," and I think I completely missed the main question, but it was rather insightful for me regarding Brennus's personality, so, eh, what can ya do. I might edit this post a little if I think of a better way to convey his treatment of the sexes.

I think most people who RP'd with Oscare already would have a faint idea of how he treats the genders.

In hindsight, he's /kind/ of neutral. I know CERTAIN PEOPLE who would say he's definitely nicer to the gals, but others would say he's way more nicer to men. In reality, in his moral code, he behaves a lot more properly around gals. And I use "properly" loosely as he kind of caused a scene at Ul'dah over a certain situation.

Good examples are Jancis and Crofte -- Oscare is very kindhearted and sweet to them (a lot of the time.... okay more like half the time), but with someone like Adrian or Aaron, his patience eventually short fuses and he gets a little passive-aggressive (mostly the latter) but in all honesty, it just kind of depends on the person. With someone like Berrod or Warren, Oscare respects them greatly.

Obsidian Hornet in general day to day interactions treats males and females pretty much the same. She is generally more generous and sympathetic toward females than males though, affording females a lot more leeway with things that she would not tolerate from a male. She is also more casually violent with men and generally tries not to get into physical altercations with women.

When it comes to romantic relationships Hornet typically reserves real emotional investment for her relationships with women (Gharen is a notable exception). She is more hesitant to invest emotionally with men as she views them as more unreliable than women. If she's with a man it's far more likely to be a one-night stand than establishing a regular relationship.

*amused by the lack of misogyny and misandry*

K'nahli is a tribal miqo'te so, similarly, she does not distinguish much between either of the two sexes. She views everyone as hunters basically and because tias are not permitted to openly express attraction or affection to females she has no reason to be wary or defensive around them even when it comes to her younger sister of whom she is rather protective about.

As for nuhns(in general since the current one is her father), she doesn't view them too differently either. Just as a highly skilled and respected hunter.

Andre on the other hand was born to a noble family and had a high quality of life growing up. As a result he is rather humble and polite, particularly around women. In the greater sense of things though he won't make too much of a distinction, though he would likely chose to save a woman over a man were he faced with such a decision whereas K'nahli(if you isolated all family ties, platonic notions and assumed that they were roughly the same age) would probably choose whoever was the most capable hunter, assuming one would definitely die right away and not have a chance to survive/merely be captured....... so yeah, highly circumstantial.

Oddly enough, Berrod's treatment of the sexes is almost directly related to the racesÂ of those sexes.

He treats Roegadyn and Highlander females as equals (his ego won't quite let him regard them as superiors, even if all evidence points out that they are). Midlander and Miqo'te females he tends to either coddle or brush off since he thinks of them as inferior (with a few exceptions!). They need to actively prove to him that they aren't just around for the sake of being annoying. Lalafell and Elezen females -- he tends to be wary around them. He knows full well that they tend to be intelligent and shrewd, so it puts him on guard.

Males have an easier time around him; Roegadyn, Highlander, Midlander, Miqo'te and Elezen males are treated as equals by default until they prove themselves perhaps undeserving (sadly this tends to happen more often than Berrod would like to admit). Lalafell males have to prove themselves from the onset, though he does acknowledge them as clever little bastards.Â

His prejudices usually affect his interactions only subtly, but there are some times when the difference in treatment between the sexes and among the races is blatant.

Warren would like to believe he treats everyone equally, but that's just not true. He's a protective person by nature and this leads him to lump people into the categories of whether or not he feels can be protect them. THAT breaks down because he expects men to be able to fend for themselves and function as providers, whereas he excuses women from it. It's a bit chauvinist but comes from good intentions; He doesn't want women to have to bear any sort of pain or hardship so he expects men to take up the slack.

He's recently been working on acknowledging the fact that many, many women have no need for his inclinations and that they are in fact perfectly capable of protecting themselves.

Coatleque, even as a woman, has pretty much the same expectations as Warren. She works within her position as best she can and looks down upon weak-willed men. While she treats everyone with the respect that is expected of a Knight, she will always move aside and let the Men do the leading.
