Stumbled upon this thread - and instantly saw VILLAIN!

Villains, those guys who you love to hate. Well currently I have Gioluchi Zaluchi, a cold, calculating Lala mobster who has killed his way to the top and has now cut a slice of Ul'dah for himself.

I also would love to find people to create the stereotypical anime lawless group of nomadic evil mercenaries, each specializing in their own unique way of killing. (Already made a group myself for fun with the character creator). Would definitely take a roll if a group like this was made.

I don't currently have any villains, I have a jaded healer and that's about it.

However years back when Neverwinter Nights (the original folks) was out, I played on a dedicated Dragonlance server that was custom build and maintained that lore.  I ended up playing a character that every other player managed to depise, she was Archmage of the Black Robes which took a ton of RP to get to and an in-game vote from all the respective mages.

I utterly loved that character as she had so much depth, the only problem I usually foresee with villains is they need to have:

1. A group of people willing to recognise them as powerful/problematic
2. A group of people willing to let them get away with some villainous activities
3. Time to establish themselves as notorious
4. And a person who's prepared to be oocly hated by players who are new to roleplay.

If I knew that folks were down for that type of villain again, I could certainly develop one, but I would need time to establish him/her before really launching into any huge plots etc.

...Although I quite like the idea of a cult (as mentioned on the first page), start off with one individual and then expand so you end up with a lead villain and multiple other notorious figures; that would take some work to set up though.
Hey!  Welcome to the RPC and super honored that you made this thread your first post!  Thank you very much for that!

If you have any questions about the RPC just ask me or anyone else here.  Many are very welcoming and helpful!

About your character idea that you may port over.....in a word...YES!

I have been there and done that on swg and loved loved loved it!

The three things listed above do need to happen, but if you have an honest, open discussion with those wanting to RP with you as this character ooc in forums like this, it will not be a problem.  Not everyone will recognize you as a super villain, but do not worry about them.  Find the group of people that will!

Start with me!   Ask LandStander too!  Yes, these things would take sometime to establish, but as you have seen elsewhere, the pay off is HUGE!

DO THIS!  START NOW!  DON'T WAIT!  GO FORWARD!  MOVE AHEAD!  WHIP IT GOOD!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIEVqFB4WUo

Now, move away from this screen and do it!

P.S.:  Let's talk about this too :0

Lizzo!  I have loved your avatar from the first day I saw it!  How classic.  Takes me back to NES.  Had to have that Black Mage to do what you needed to do in FF1.

My friend, you HAVE to go forward with this idea!  Good gods when I read your post my mind raced with all those anime type groups that harass and do bad things while being cool at it.  The first thing I thought of was the Warlords from Ronin Warriors!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQIxH6UiqM0

Anubis is and always will be my favorite anime character!  Dais is just way toooo cool to even put into words!

This would be sooooo awesome!  Please do this!  Good gods they would be the perfect fit to go against The Seven!  It would be over the top anime good times for all!

DO IT!

Let me know!

I'm kind of tossing the idea around of Corelyn having been a Garlean defector, but I'm not so sure yet. I'm largely still doing a lot of research on Hydaelyn lore and such.

She's somewhat like the sage character, though, in that she's always experimenting with glyphs and runes and such with her arcanima and... they don't always turn out how she expects.

That sounds like a wonderful character. I'm sure my character's would've loved to despise her or even join her if the cards were in their favour! You're write about those four points though. Villains are just pickpockets need time to establish before they are recognised by the RP world as evil or just a no-do-gooder.

Really like the idea of making the Tellah idea a bit your own and having those experiments maybe turn out not so well.  Adds a comic quirk to your character and reminds me of old Doc Brown:

Gotta love his zany ways!  Kinda like Tellah I guess in that way!

I say go forward with this all the way!

Also, yes I do hope the defector tag will be picked up by somebody here and ran with.  I REALLY want to meet someone like that in game.  That would have such great RP arcs to play off of!

On a side note, thanks to everyone for really making this thread explode!  It is nice to see creative minds (no, not me, you guys!) getting energized and letting ideas poor out of themselves!  I hope we have more threads like this in the future to really welcome creativity here!

Again, thanks all of you!  Let's keep this going!

Indeed. I can see a lot of good RP with Garlean conflict overtones. Especially if Magitek/gunblades become available for use eventually. I've considered chalking her physical weakness up to magitek implants that she refuses to keep active for fear of being discovered/outed/etc, or just general disdain for Garlemald after some sort of altercation that led to her seeking asylum in Eorzea (namely Limsa Lominsa) in an attempt to remake herself and pursue her love and interests in arcanima.

A villain huh? As good as an idea as that sounds it also sounds like it would be quite difficult. Then again my sorely limited knowledge of RP could be getting the best of me here and I could be completely wrong. It sounds like it could be really fun though!

Ah, god. Ronin Warriors xD. This might have been my first experience with anime. I remember my brothers and I all bought the toys and they had all those removal pieces of armor. Of course we eventually lost them all, but I still have Cye action figure. They had springs as limbs for some odd reason. I am keeping it to hand down to my one day children :3

Edit: [Image: %24(KGrHqJ,!hwE-z9rY2KfBP3E3Sz+PQ~~60_35.JPG]

This guy on Ebay is selling it for about $150...I really wish I still had the armor pieces now xD

Why don't you tell us what you are thinking about?  Maybe LandStander and/or Lizzos ideas there sound good to you?

I like LandStander's idea about a group of villains or a cult of bad people but I think it might be more suited to a gang or group mentality. And I enjoy Lizzo's idea as well I think it still fits better with a group. Not that either of these are bad ideas at all, I actually like the idea of conspiring to make a small group of villains like Landstander mentioned, but I think if you're going to have the one bad guy it would be literally one guy or girl. They would be the person who silences a room when their name is brought up. 70% of the population could hate the person but the other 30% sure wouldn't want to be associated with them. Personally I like the idea of it begin this person and then the people who follow them. It could be out of blind loyalty, fear, or any number of things. They would be the baddest of the bad. The one even the bad guys don't want to be around.

At least this is how I always thought of the perfect villain.Blush

Cults and such are actually not very hard to start up RP-wise, especially if you keep them on the down-low and come up with good ideas to keep them subtle and difficult to notice.

I'm currently, before release, finishing up a MASSIVE storyline on WoW of a bunch of demon-tainted druids led by one ancient evil. Why has Azeroth at large not known of this threat until it finally started attacking the world at large?

"The veil of absurdity" as it's been called. The cultists spread rumours of a thing called "Dogelf" - a being whose very existence sounded so obnoxiously uncreative as to be unbelievable - though the Hound of Nightmare, an ancient Druid of Goldrinn, stuck halfway between wolfform and having forsaken his former druidic ways for a twisted, demonic version between Nightmare magic and fel (demonic) magic, is very real. Most of the storyline was actually several characters who HAD run into his traps and tricks attempting to prove his existence, but now he's corrupted various members of the RP guild, and one of the most powerful druids they employ has been taken. The final battle's coming up soon. =-3

Really, it had some solid basis in lore, but only enough to explain his existence and power. Farther than that, it's entirely been RP. Best part is, it all started from a joke I started when we were running around as a trio of hyperactive goblins hellbent on "smashing" things. Good times.

Goes to show you, though, you can make a villain or even a massive organization of them out of thin air. The world at large can be ignorant of it, in denial of its existence, or they could simply have their hands tied. However, you can always say that some small groups of nameless NPCs from certain groups or factions come to fight without bending or breaking lore too terribly.
It's all in the backstory!

Shocking to myself, I had not even thought about things like this while I sit here thinking on my character. I am more used to RP communities in MMOs being much more strict on things... it is heart warming to see more creativity sparking and being welcomed. I'm gonna have to think hard on my char but perhaps he will be the one to journey down the Mime path...

Let's be honest, we need a BAD GUY.  Yes, the idea has been discussed.  Yes you would alienate yourself from a lot of the population.  Some of us, myself included, have played the role and know how rewarding it can be when 70% + of a server hates you for good reasons.  It's hard to be bad, but it is fun.  This is Final Fantasy.  That means great stories.  Yes, we have the Empire.  We need a PC villain to get that extra RP mile out of the experience.  No, you don't have to kill us, disfigure us, or always win or loose.  It can work, if some of us (which is why I am asking here), work to make it work!

Does 70% of the server hate you or your character? Or not distinguish between the two?

Waaaay back when I did Dragonriders of Pern play-by-email RP, I loved playing villains and annoying characters, but a lot of other players had trouble distinguishing OCC and IC and took it personal when my character was an asshole. Does that happen in MMO RPG?

This, exactly. I am so used to the lore hounds of WoW. There is just so much of it, and people expect you to keep to it with such a vengeance, it's a tough and very cliquey RP community nowadays. This is giving me a LOT of hope for FFXIV RP. And to think a friend of mine was convinced that there would be none!

Now if only Squeenix would tie in some Al Bhed references... E fyhd yh eqlica du cbayg ed eh-lynyldan... ^_^;

Wow, this this this!  This was idea in creating this thread.  It is really a place to say hey, this is Final Fantasy.  We have a rich history to draw on here to help create from!

It was not easy for me at first during 1.0 coming on here and saying I was going to play a samurai.  However, as the community has grown, there have been people here that have come into the fold who have been very welcoming of the ideas of looking into the history of Final Fantasy and traditional RP character styles for aid in fleshing out their characters.

I made this thread to help show that you are welcome here and you do have a place!  There is more to fostering a good community then just saying 'welcome to the RPC, choose a server and jump in!'

As far as going down the Mime path....YES!  It would be one of the coolest things to RP play in game.  That is to use the game to actually RP it like a Mime in game.  There are many ways to pull it off, and there are many people here smarter then me to come up with the best ways to do it!

It is just like playing samurai for me.  Yeah, I am giving up the shield and going only sword as gladiator until the actual job gets in game.  I know that gets me bumped off the end game list for just about any raiding party, but hey, this is a game.  I give it up willing because RP is the what I love the most.

That being said, nothing wrong with someone else who wants to pick up the shield and play as a samurai too.  If it makes you happy and is not hurting anyone else, do it.

I would love to hear you ideas for how to tackle Mime!

In a word.......yes.  I did it, and many have probs being different to you ooc and icc.  Also, not everyone icc will recognize you as some great, semi-powerful villain.  Just like in choosing a linkshell, it is best to find a group of people to see you as a icc bad dude and not the same ooc.  Also, they will help build up your rep as a villain by RPing you as someone who is not a nice person and not to be messed with.

It is all about finding the right group if you want to go down this path.  I encourage you to do it if it is what you want to do and to seek the people who will allow you to be what you desire to be here to maximize your experience as your character!
