We don't. It's more of a precautionary response than anything - if we don't wind up ever being on the same server as they are, we'll never find out one way or the other. Of course, this is presuming that there are a surfeit of things that they could lock us out of in the first place, something that may very well have already gone the way of the dodo.

In hindsight, it almost might have been a better idea to have the poll running three days after the open beta started... at which point most other polls would have closed, and we could vote on who if anyone we wanted to avoid. Oh, sure, it kills all of the initial excitement, but it's worth it for the ability to hand-pick our neighbors.

As it stands, though, we ultimately will end up where we end up. It's still miles better than hoping and praying you wound up where you wanted in FFXI. And it's also miles better than when we were a year and a half late to the party - I'm sure some of the apprehension over server choice is from bitter memories about Japanese players not too keen on the new batch of American newbs.

I'd be more interested in learning where Blue Gartr is headed. They're on my "avoid at all costs" list - whatever server they wind up on will likely have a very hardcore elitist endgame scene. I'm also leery of any server being populated by a large, established endgame group not due to overcrowding, I'm sure that'll sort itself out... but the type of temperament that thrives on endgame activity tends to be the type of temperament that's difficult to get along with.

Yes, I realize I'm speaking in VERY sweeping generalities, but after 6 years of XI endgame, I'd just like to avoid that particular brand of epeen waving on our server. They'd also likely attempt to completely dominate the endgame scene, and if it's remotely as competitive as it was in XI, that'll be a whole lot of no fun for those of us who have things to do besides live in-game yet still wish to enjoy high level content.

BG does not have a poll, as it's a private Linkshell and Sonomaa will disclose their destination at some point. I believe they are waiting for the dust to settle.

The last word from Sonomaa was they would not be rolling on Jecht in Open Beta, but that has already been made irrelevant.

Honestly, and I promise that I am speaking from experience here, if someone is griefing you for being an RPer, all you have to do is ignore them. They will get bored and go find somebody else to bother. I share a server with Goons elsewhere, Goons are infamous for that sort of behavior, and all you have to do is follow the age-old adage: don't feed the trolls.

I know it can be hard, but we just have to chillax. No matter where we end up, there will be people that think that we are colossal dorks. Just remember that they're playing a silly game, too, and are just as dorky, just in a different way. Ignore whatever slams come your way.

This is a rational statement, one people might do well to read again should they start feeling paranoid about things about this server selection. The only way this becomes a problem is if we make it into a problem. Take the high road guys, and remember when we're playing and rp'ing the game as we choose that actually getting upset over griefers takes more effort than /ignoring them does. The majority of players won't care one way or the other about people roleplaying, and it won't keep them from teaming with us, engaging in commerce with us, or doing just about any other activity in the game with us. Also, just as role-players are a minority, so are griefers, only we're a bigger minority than they are!

So long as our friends are there with us and we have a nice, large sized population to play along with, we'll be having a great time. As Cid said:
