Besides the NB Mansion in Lavender Beds (Always open for people to stop by) and the Bar we own in Mist (Rum N Rumble, again free for anyone to stop by) I've noticed a lot of us tend to hang out at Bascarron's. I tend to like to RP in places with sweeping vistas and nice views, like Outer La Noscea. We used to go to the Hot Springs a lot as a guild but that fizzled, and I would love to get that up and running again. If I'm going to a bar, I actually like the Canopy in Gridania, we even staged a huge fight scene on the balcony waiting for some Twin Adder rpers to appear magically XD. I would love to put on more plays or concerts at the Amphitheater, but that's in the works for later. There's a script written but we're in the middle of a very tense guild storyline for it to be appropriate right now. So... mostly Gridania and La Noscea. Working on trying to get into Coerthas more with another FC.

I never RP in the Quicksand. It's crowded, there's too much going on, and Uther doesn't care to sit around in a bar in a city he doesn't even like. OOCly it gives me terrible Club Caprice flashbacks from Champions Online.

What have I done? I will admit I haven't made a concentrated effort to bring RP out of Ul'dah, but I never RP in Ul'dah to begin with, and I've stated on many occasions that I'm open for walk-ups at all times. So if you're RPing with me, it will probably be outside of Ul'dah. And anyone can RP with me whenever.

If anyone wants to make an event outside of Ul'dah, I'll be there and show my support in numbers. Or if anyone just wants to message me for RP in Gridania or Limsa for no reason other than to set an example of where else RP can take place, I'll be there.

I try to have a very open door, open world Rp policy in place at all times. Quicksand is my last resort to mingle if my contacts pan out. But most times if anyone sees me...that bancho stare down happens and you know some Rp might be possible. As long as I have a moment to switch to my IC clothes from raid close, I'm good to go.
And really that's just me putting myself out there, and acting like the world is a living, breathing thing. A point I tend to beat to death any chance I get.
It's because of this reason I was pulled into the plot I am now, just randomly stopped in Black Brush.
Being open really does make things work so much better than crossing your arms at the railing of the QS and wondering why no one wants to come talk.

Hey, I like crossing my arms at the railing in QS every now and then. Granted, it's usually because I'm interested in eavesdropping on other people's conversations and am not actually looking for RP myself, so I don't wonder why no one wants to talk. I don't expect people to want to talk to someone who doesn't initiate conversation.

When I did more RP, I never limited myself to a city. I set scenes all over the place. These days if I want to RP, I'll probably go to a scheduled event and cross my arms there.

You're making me want to do something similar.  Bronze Lake has this really touristy feel that I love.

I wonder if GC members along with the "police force" of each state (Wailers, Jackets and Blades) would be interested in having a shell opened up where they, along with some active people who frequent areas like those, can be notified when fights break out and things like that so that it's not entirely reliant on some single, random RP'er being in there at the time.

Hahahahaha! I don't RP myself but I like to eavesdrop on the goings on regularly, though I have my doubts that everyone else that seems to be doing the same thing are also just interested in listening on on things as opposed to actually participating.

This is a neat idea but I can't help feeling like something like this already exists?

Personally if I wanted help from the GC RPers I'd probably use /shout but then again I'm sure a lot of RPers have /shout disabled.

It honestly depends on the time of night and availability of the players. In order to find a member of the Brass Blades/Immortal Flames, a group of people in our FC once had to stage an armed bar fight in the middle of the Quicksand because nobody was paying attention "Without due cause". While hilarious, I'm reminded that I should probably use the forums to try and hunt down some actual members of GCs in case I need to beg them for RP.

Speaking as a former longtime member of Seraph Falcon Company in GW2 (basically a police force for Divinity's Reach, which was Ul'dah with better weather and more nobles and jerks), the big problem with playing a policing force of an LS is that you'll have to do the following before you really do more than wander around the city:

-Gain the trust of the RP community.
-KEEP the trust of the RP community.
-Establish rules for imprisonment/consent to RP (because, you may be surprised to know, people whose characters are criminals seldom actually enjoy being put in the clink).
-Find a roleplay base and establish rules for when and how far one is allowed to leave that base (i.e. the "Why are the Brass Blades patrolling in Gridania" rule).

In other words, while it's awesome to have one or two people around acting as GC agents, it's a very difficult thing to keep going and be part of the community where the GC members don't feel put-upon or treated like NPCs. I like those policing military forces a lot and want to make sure they get their wins sometimes too.

One thing I have done is having Melodia's therapy sessions in Lavender Beds, offering her practice out of her home. Additionally, I try to have the clients have homework assignments wherein they are encouraged to meet new people and while it could all be in Ul'dah you never know. Smile  I try my best.

Ul'dah has the Sand Pearl, which is an IC LS open to Flames/Sworn/Blades; Jana's used it more than once ICly to call for help or alert people to things. Dunno if the other cities have something similar.

Some of the last few bits of RP I've done have been in Mor Dhona, private chambers, Coral's house, Coerthas, and Limsa. Smile I try to spread myself out when I can and it helps that I have characters who can go to a lot of different places and it not feel forced or like I'm making them go there just for the sake of getting out of Ul'dah itself.

I remember this.

Even then, didn't people have to poke around in linkshells a bit?

I suspect that police-type RP is more of a hassle than something a lot of people enjoy.  Most people don't seem willing to acknowledge that someone is an "actual" brass blade, or else they have a twisted viewpoint of what a typical interaction between an adventurer/common person and the police force of their respective city might be.

More to the topic, though, I haven't done much myself, though Yvelont has been tempting me to show up in Gridania at some point to make fun of his giraffe.  Angel

*waves hand*

Technically not law enforcement, here (seriously, Flames are NOT LAW ENFORCEMENT WHY DOES EVERYONE GET THIS CONFUSED), but you'd be surprised by how many of us law and GC folks are present here on RPC, be we Blades, Flames, Adders, Maelstrom, Bow... I think the only groups there are a real shortage of are Yellowjackets and Wood Wailers*. Blades to a lesser extent because of the negative perception surrounding them.

"Law enforcement" linkshells for such things are a good idea in theory, but in practice I didn't see them used much, which sucked. Ended up bowing out so I could fit more active IC shells (seriously, Square, eight is a weird, arbitrary, shitty limit).

You don't need to go around in /shout or causing scenes in the QS in order to find these folks (I'm not discouraging scenes, btw, a good bar brawl is always fun) but it DOES help to make use of resources available here, I feel, including but not limited to:

1. Browsing the Linkshell Hall.
2. Searching through the RPC Wiki for recent page updates featuring law/GC of your choice.
3. Keeping an eye on the Town Square (IC) forum, particularly the Bulletin Board thread(s).

I've found several Brass Blades this way, and learned of quite a few Serpent operatives who would be fun to RP with if there's ever an opportunity. Smile

* According to several databases, there's an actual Wood Wailer chestpiece, but it is either no longer attainable or never was attainable.

Given that Blades are so seldom seen walking around in uniform and on duty, I wouldn't mind seeing GC members acting in their place. Sure, you might see them as soldiers like I do and therefore treat such things as out of their jurisdiction, but it's a step up from a citizen's arrest IF they happen to be around. If someone literally ran up to the flame HQ or something then sure, they'd tell them to run along and tell the blades instead.

I could be wrong but I could have sworn I have seen Adders make arrests so it might not be that unusual.
