The Sunny Seaside Bar VI: The Chillout Session
That's right folks, regardless of the weather, regardless of the heat, this week it's all about taking it easy.  What does that entail?  As ever, it's simple!  This week the entertainment is being provided by folk other than yourselves (How novel!), all anyone need do is turn up, relax, and enjoy the show. What show, I hear you ask from the future?  Well... it's the great pleasure of Jackal & Hide to announce that this weeks bar be featuring, for your collective entertainment, the incredible talents of Nebula Stardancer and U'ashael Malik! Free of charge, and starting from the twentieth bell on the upper deck, the evenings entertainment begins with the wonderful Nebula, and currently ends with the inspiring U'ashael!  On the offchance there are any folk present who, after witnessing the evenings entertainment, feel so inspired as to want to take part once the pair are done, then we'll be setting aside a little time towards the end of the eve for such an occurrence. (We might even pay you.  Maybe.) That's all there is to it this time! We rather hope to see faces old and new this week for the show, so... See you there! Kilid My most humble apologies for the lateness of the post for this bar!  Between catching people for arrangements, and life, things got away from me! There's little to elaborate on this week, the fee for Nebs and U'ashael is ICly provided by J&H, so all folk need do is pay for their drinks! As a spoiler, the next scheduled bar event will be in a month, rather than the usual fortnightly schedule.  We're collaborating with a few other FCs for an extra-special event on the 16th, instead!  More news on that soon, once this weeks bar is done and dusted! |

Indeed, thank you for your last-minute show, Solis! 'Twas... explosive!
And a huge thank you to U'ashael Malik, Nebula Stardancer, and Aylle Haken for the effort they put into preparing for their respective shows. And just as importantly, a mega(zord) huge thank you to everyone who came to the bar last night! It may well have been our greatest turnout yet, so again... thank you, folks! And, of course, a thank you to everyone in J&H, and Nailah of the Kindred for running the thing and making it go so smoothly! Much to you all! (If I missed anyone saying anything in /say last night, I'm really sorry! My multi-tasking is weak, and was coordinating things in whispers, teamspeak, and occasional /fc, while snapping screenshots throughout the night! Screenshot'll be turning up in the J&H FC thread later today, and can be found here for those curious!) And now, a small pre-announcement announcement, that was touched upon in the last bar post! The next Sunny Seaside Bar (VII, I think? Yeah, VII. I'll get an Aeris shot first joke in somewhere, or something like that, no doubt ) has been postponed by a fortnight, and will be taking place in a month from now! Why? There's a post coming later today that'll explain all! Please look forward to it! Oh, hey, look at that! A post about a beach bar, and not a single awful joke? I'm bikining to get the hang of this grown-up stuff! Edit:  Nevermind, found their name! Gil is winging its way to Aylle now. |

Had my first chance to get to this event yesterday and it was a blast. Big thanks to you guys for putting on such a great event. It must take lost of coordination and it seems all second nature. Going to do everything in my power to never miss one of these again.
Anyone who has a chance to attend totally should, these guys are great fun. Also, that pirate performer girl was super cute and talented! |

Jackal & Hide are once again proud to present...
The Sunny Seaside Bar VII: Crisis Card Aye folks, you read that right. Â After nearly a full moon, the Sunny Seaside Bar returns to the balmy beaches of Costa, soaking all who attend in shining sun and substantial quantities of spirits. We wondered long and hard* about what to do this time, and the eventual conclusion was that, now that we've gained a large number of confident serving staff, we should take advantage of this and return to something we attempted afore, sans suitable numbers of assistants. And so... the Triple Triad Tournament Edition II has been scheduled for the twentieth bell of the sun, with the wonderful host with the most... Jino'ya Traore! The rules will be explained on the night, all you need to do is... bring your decks. Â For a duel on... the decks! The prize? Â Why, it's none other than Something Niceâ„¢, of course! The bar will, of course, be open all eve for the ever-serious task of socialisation and relaxation under the always-appreciated influence of alcohol. Hope to see faces old and new there, folks! Kilid Mmhmm, it's that time folks! Â Hot on the heels of** the Wine and Dine Festival, we're going back to basics. Â Returning to our roots. Â Sailing back to the Start. Â Where it all began. Â The Sunny Seaside Bar! (We missed it something awful!) 19:00 BST, the bar opens. Â 20:00 BST, those who are interested in the TT Tournament can head off with Jino down the coast to where the game is permitted to be played. Â Anyone who doesn't want to is of course welcome to remain behind at the bar, most of the staff will be sticking it out over there, basking in the collective company you all bring with your attendance. Hope to see faces new and old there! * I asked Inarah what we should do, she said this, I agreed. Â It wasn't really all that long a debate if I'm honest with you all. ** Two weeks is "hot on the heels of", for the purpose of this post. Â Leave me alone ;_; |

A wise Miqo'te once told me...
"War... The bar... The bar never changes." They were so wrong! First, a big congratulations to the talented Rosie Bubblegum for wiping the decks in the Triple Triad tournament! She took home the first prize with a whopping 45 points at the close, closely followed by Ludivine in second with 30, and Xivrez'to and Chokho tying for third place with a respectable 25 a piece. And a great big thank you to everyone who participated, we here at J&H hope you had fun! It was also our great pleasure to give Fheyla Haken a chance to perform in a more public setting, so a big thank you to her, too! It is, however, on that note that, I'm sad to say, for the next few Sunny Seaside Bar openings we won't be featuring any 'live' performances beyond the current theme of that evening's entertainment, whether it be Triple Triad again, or a return to the Chocobo ra-... Oohhh... idea. You may have an idea about what's coming in a fortnight now, folks. Go see the announcement for the second bar, if you want an idea of the course layout... Anyway, yes, in order to keep things focussed, we'll just be running whatever the evenings entertainment is, while keeping the bar itself quiet, and hopefully relaxed. Also, only one more bar until Heavensward!  While we'll try out best to keep the bar open for those initial post-Heavensward weekends, well... Nah, you know what? The bar'll be open come rain, shine, snow or Dragons. Hopefully we'll all have some new outfits to show off after those gates to the north open, too. Hope to see you in a fortnight, folks! |

Re-pack your Gyshal's, folks, the second beach-based Chocorallydashsprintrace (Name has been officially finalised) extraordinaire will also be taking place as the main evening's entertainment tomorrow, for those feeling adventurous!
BYOB* or make use of the increased number we've procured for the eve, it makes no difference, we've plotted the course to be fair for birds and riders of all skill levels, with just the right mix of straights and corners to make things interesting. It's all about the skill of the rider... As with last time, it's all good fun in the end, and more importantly, the birds get to stretch their legs and play in the sand and surf.  They enjoyed that last time, and we think they'd appreciate another chance at it. And honestly, isn't that what counts the most? If not, then there's always the bar?  It'll be a quiet affair this week, with the entertainment happening solely down on the sands and shore. As with last time, we've got a map and course layout for you all to study, if you're so inclined! Firstly, an overview of the course map: And again, with masterful annotation skills applied: Take as long as you need to study those, and then take a moment or three to watch the following: That's the layout, folks. Hope to see you there! *BYOB - Bring Your Own Bird. |

Thank you all for coming last night! We didn't have any interest in chocobo racing so decided to just chill out and relax before Heavensward next week. I hope you all had a good time! We'll be looking for entertainment, contests and other interesting features to add to the bar over the next coming months so if you fancy a break from Ishgard's snowy climes, head on down to Costa and soak up the sun with us every fortnight!
Here's a sampling of shots we got from the evening. See you all again on the 27th! |

The Sunny Seaside Bar IX: DODGEBALL
We're gettin' this out t' ye wonderful folks a little later than we'd normally like to, but we wanted t' make sure that when we took this thing live, we 'ad it nailed down fer the smoothest experience we could give. An' know what? After some extensive testin', no small amount'ah blood, sweat, an' tears (An' bruises. Lotsa bruises.), ah think we've gone an' got it, an so... S' the great pleasure of Jackal an' Hide t' say that, this week, we'll be 'ostin' the first ever (That we know of) Eorzean Dodgeball tournament. Wha's dodgeball? No idea, weren't me that came up with the name, s' somethin' we use t' play back in the tribe t' perfect our aim an' agilty. (Ah kinda sucked at the agility part, but that ain't nether 'ere nor there.) F' those so inclined t' partake in a li'l bit'ah good-natured fun an' rivalry, we're gonna be runnin' this down on the beach t'night, away from the bar f' those that ain't that way inclined. We'll be goin' over it on the night, 'bout what's expected, so don't worry 'bout not knowin' what ye need t' do. A few'ah the Jackal's should be on 'and t' give a demonstration an' all. That's all there is to it this time! We rather hope to see faces old and new this week for the show, so... See you there! Kilid
Right! Where to begin with this... J&H have been testing out various rulesets and playstyles for this for a while now, and after some extensive testing, we're pretty confident we've got this nailed now. A little bit of reading is required for anyone who's interested in this, but having played or spectated all the games now... It's SO worth it :3 Everyone's who's partaken has loved it. We even had a couple of folks turn up from another FC to play the first time. They seemed to have a great time too! What you need to know (How it plays out): Unlike real Dodgeball, the balls aren't lined up in the middle for both teams to charge down and claim.  Two teams will be selected from nominated captains, and the captains get to draw straws.  Longest straw throws first! Also unlike real Dodgeball, it's not a chaotic free-for-all of throwing, teams take it in turns (We're assuming that each side hordes the balls until the other team has nothing left to give).  Captains direct their troops call out who's throwing, and in what order. The winning team is the one that has people reaming, standing tall to bask in their glory. What you need to know (How to play, the basics): 1) Two teams, each with a leader, with as even a split as we can manage. 2) Three (Give or take, dependant on numbers) 'balls' (Inflated boar bladders). The nominated captains use /random to determine who throws, and the team with the highest random starts.  Captains nominate who throws each round. 3) The nominated pick their target, and throw! (Emote your throw, and who you're throwing at, then /random.) 4) The target tries to dodge! (/random.  If your roll is higher than that of the throw, you dodge!  Lower, you're hit.  Emote accordingly.) 5) Once one team completes their throws, the balls are gathered up for the return fire. (Teams take it in turns to throw/dodge) What you need to know (How to play, the advanced stuff): Crits!  Critical hits/misses are a thing here.  A roll of 1 - 50 is a critical failure, and 950 - 999 being a critical hit.  What do they do?  Details below. Throwing: Critical failure (1 - 50):  Oops!  Your target catches the ball!  You're out, and the defending team can bring on an eliminated player. Critical hit (950 - 999):  HEADSHOT!  The player is eliminated.  Not only that, but your throw was such a fine example of execution SPORTS! that the ball rebounded straight back into your waiting hands.  Throw again! Dodging: Critical failure (1 - 50):  Disaster!  Not only did the ball hit you, but it hit at such an angle that it deflected into the player nearest you.  They need to roll to dodge against the same throw that took you out, too. Critical hit (950 - 999):  Yeah, you're good.  You totally called their throw, and catch it with ease.  The player who threw it is out, and your team brings on an elimintated player. What you don't really need to know (The optionals): Modifiers!  Not everyone was made equal.  Some of us are, in fact, quite naff at physical sports and exercise, while others are Gods amongst mortals, with bodies that glisten with golden droplets of sweat, and gallons of rare oils smeared on by their devoted fans. This is reflected with the optional modifier system down below.  How do they work?  Take a look below! First, be honest.  Is your character an absolute beast of a Roe?  Are they a Highlander that grinds rocks to dust with their bare hands?  Or are they a scholarly sort who spends the majority of their time huddled over a book?  Think about whether they'd have a bonus or a penalty to either their throwing or dodging. Decided?  Good. Now, pick a number up to 100 and add or subtract it to your throw rolls. Then, half that number.  If you added to your throw or dodge, subtract that halved number from the other stat. If you chose a penalty and subtracted from either your throw or dodge, then half that number, and add it to the other stat. Sound confusing?  Have some examples. Kilid is quite a strong fellow.  Not the strongest, but still... strong.  He has +75 to his throws, but as a consequence, -38 to his dodge (We round up to the greater number, no cheating!) A large, burly Roe or Highlander might decide to add +100 to their throw.  As a consequence, they'd take -50 to their dodge. A smaller Lalafell who's quite active and energetic, or a well-practiced Miqo hunter might decide they're quite athletic, and add +50 to their dodge.  They'd suffer -25 to their throws. A scholarly Elezen or Lala might be honest, and accept that they'd rather suck at this sort of thing, as fun as it might be, and take -100 to their throws.  They'd gain +50 to dodge. Or, you could decide that you're a pretty balanced person, and leave it as +/- 0 all round. How do the mods impact play?  After your /random, we manually add or subtract the numbers in our heads.  It's great practice for on-the-fly maths for yours truly! One thing to note is that your mods can't/won't trigger a critical.  We tried having that, and found that crits were happening all over the place!  It got... crazy. One other thing to note, is that yes, if you take a bonus, you have to take a penalty (And vice-versa).  It keeps things somewhat balanced. Post below or PM me if you decide to take a modifier, and I'll make a note on our company doc for easy reference. It's a lot to take in, we know.  However, worth it.  So, so, SO worth it!  J&H will be on hand to throw a few rounds if people want to see it in action.  We're... excited about this, and hope to see a few people here tonight to give this a shot. If it's as popular outside the FC as it is inside, we might see about setting up a proper inter-FC tournament further on down the line. (With, of course, space for teams of mixed and non-FC people, too!) Really hope to see people there tonight! |
