I'm looking bits and pieces of trivia and information regarding Haillenarte and Durendaire, specifically. I wanna know I'm flipping a coin for.Â

Things like:

-What they're known for.

-Important people. (that probably don't even get a mention along the msq.)

-What they own. (Haillenarte I think owns the Skysteel)

-Recent blunders.

-Recent achievements.

-What they're doing right now.

I just thought it'd help, flesh out a replacement concept I've been working in the event one of my existing characters die horribly and or get benched permanently. So things like that would help fill in backstory and such.

No, I'm probably not going to make a member of the actual main branch, at best it'd be some off shot, if not some minor house vassal to them(if that's even possible). But I'm sure things like work ethic and mentality rub off on some degree, as well as current and recent events.

Haillenarte in particular is a an allied house to Fortemps. They also have a reputation for treating the commonfolk well and creating plenty of work for them, and are therefore more respected among them than the other noble houses. They do indeed own the Skysteel Manufactory, and its present overseer Stephanivien Haillenarte has a radical idea of arming commoners with their newly developed firearms, being able to field them faster and with less investment than traditional knights. Naturally, he has faced criticism and opposition from both within his house and from the other houses. (Which is a focal point of the MCH storyline).Â

It is also known that Haillenarte has recently fell on hard times and does not have the prestige that it once held. The reasons for this aren't exactly explained, but it's seen as a lesser player among the four. (with Fortemps and Dzmael being bigger ones that oppose each other). In the main ARR questline you also help a member of the family escape a false heresy accusation.

Durendaire there isn't nearly as much written about to my knowledge, unfortunately. They're an ally to Dzmael and with them form the more traditionalist houses (with Fortemps and Haillenarte being known as more progressive.)

Would it be safe to assume the Haillenartes are in a weak position even before hitting level 36-ish?

Also if I recall right, Camp Cloudtop isn't exactly a 'respectable' station or I think isn't seen as one for a career climber. It's also owned by the Haillenarte right? Like it's exclusively their operation.Â

And the whole providing work to commoners bit, Stephanivien's probably the driving force for that I assume. Unless it's also possible other Haillenarte members employ commoners for things as important as what Stephie does in the MCH quests?Â

Might have missed details while I've autopiloted through most of HW MSQ and sidequests.Â I don't remember any other mention of the sortÂ throughout the MCH questline so I'm just exploring other possibilities really.

Interesting bits of info on the other two bigger houses would be welcome too really.

For House Fortemps and House Haillenarte specifically...

House Fortemps has of late gotten flack for advocating the use of outside foreigners, adventurers specifically. While Count Edmont treats his illegitimate son, Haurchefant, as if he was a trueborn there are many in Ishgard (such as the Heavensward) who call him a bastard.

House Haillenarte failed to hold and lost the Stone and Steel Vigils. That essentially put them at the mercy of the other Houses (Dzemael and Durendaire specifically). House Haillenarte doesn't quite have much funds, spreading themselves thin trying to bolster their Sea of Clouds outpost. Their youngest son, Francel, was friends with Haurchefant (Their story is in the Tales from the Dragonsong War). One of the sons died in the loss of Steel Vigil.

House Haillenarte are in a weak position, especially so before hitting level 36ish as they lost two Vigils before ARR. Losing them put them in the bottom rung it seems.

For the other two houses, interestingly, House Dzemael controls the Lightfeather Proving Grounds (the chocobo arena, but also for knights such as even the Temple Knights). House Dzemael is attempting to rebuild Falcon's Nest. House Durendaire has a knight in charge of Whitebrim.

Is it Haillenarte that lost Stone Vigil? Almost all the flavor text for it I can find refers to House Durendaire.Â

The descriptions for Stone Vigil normal and HM respectively:

â€œOne of four watchtowers built along the Sea of Clouds by the city-state of Ishgard, the Stone Vigil was overrun and occupied by the Dravanian Horde not long after the Calamity. The following years have seen the knights of House Durendaire make several attempts at reclaiming the fortress, but to no avail. What could it be that thwarts their every effort?â€

â€œToo long has the Stone Vigil been ravished by the Dravinians and their thralls; too long has House Durendaire suffered this infamy. This seems to suggest that Stone Vigil was lost by Durendaire. Where is it written that it was initially lost by Haillenarte?

I'm not at home, so I can'tÂ get in-game and look around for quotes from around Coerthas, but I can recall a knight of House Fortemps in Camp Dragonhead expressing his misgivings concerning the Fortemps-Haillenarte alliance, saying, "House Haillenarte's bumblings have cost us Steel/Stone Vigil."Â Can't quite remember which Vigil he actually speaks of in-game.

This hints that the Forgotten Knight who helped slay Ratatoskr and Nidhogg might have a prodigious progeny - a story element which will likely become relevant later in the Heavensward story.

The name for the dead son I believe is Chlodebaimt!

You deliver the battle standard to Rontremont. He becomes increasingly nostalgic of both good and bad experiences while serving at the Steel Vigil. However, he feels there is another more deserving of that tattered mementoâ€”Lady Laniaitte, sister to Ser Chlodebaimt.
Lady Laniaitte welcomes you with a warm greeting, but quickly turns sullen at the sight of the battle standard. She tells you of her admiration for him, and wonders aloud if his death marked the beginning of the decline of House Haillenarte. She soon casts her doubts aside, vowing to uphold the honor of her family in the face of any adversity.

Also, for Francel, shouldn't he be "fourth-born" or third-son? From Dragonsong tales they mentioned that he was the fourth-born (while reminding us that Haurchefant is a bastard). Or perhaps it should be third son and the typo was made in the tales?

Question, have you started to compile a list of minor houses? Couldn't find one while I was browsing some... lore.. posts... >.> I think

There's actually a lore discrepancy between the Naul text and the Honoring the Past and Tales from the Dragonsong War story - which is probably why I got confused above. I've gone back and fixed the mistake though!

Anyways, here's the problem. The text for Naul explicitly states the third son was killed at Steel Vigil. However, Francel is the fourth-born, making Francel the third son. Lady Laniaitte and Lord Stephanivien are explicitly state as being the two eldest. So either the Naul text is incorrect and it should say third-born OR the late Lord Chlodebaimt was Francel's younger brother and Count Baurendouin de Haillenarte has another daughter that we don't know about, which would make Francel fourth-born and Chlodebaimt fifth-born and the third son. After Chlodebaimt's death, Francel would be considered the youngest living child of Haillenarte.

Anyways, here's the transcription of Honoring the Past:

His sacrifice saved a great many lives that day, and so every year a memorial service is held in his honor. However, the Rose Knights of Camp Cloudtop, defending their post against the Vanu, were not present. Needless to say, their attendance was sorely missed. We've received no missives from Camp Cloudtop regarding the ceremony, but at the very least, I am certain Rontremont wished to pay his respects. He is a good friend, and once served under Ser Chlodebaimt. This was the battle standard raised during the ceremony. It would mean a great deal to me if you would take it to him. Considering he was unable to attend, I think he would be pleased to have it.

Safat's hunt lore doesn't say anything about razing Steel Vigil, but obviously this questline does. It's likely that all three dragons - Naul, Svara, and Safat - were present at the battle. Also, on an unrelated note! Yay - we finally have a rough date for when the Steel Vigil fell. A year and some months ago. 4th Year of the Seventh Umbral Era.

I was able to find a lot more nobles in the various Disciple of Hand quests, but most don't have the surname/House names attached to them. Glenda and Gerhardt are both Hyuran Ishgardian nobles, but there's no mention of their House.

Yep, I've made a post in the localization board, maybe someone there can explain. Basically Francel can only have an older sister for it to work.

I also have another house possibly?
House Caulignont featured in the DRK 50-60 questline. The house is deeply affiliated with the church and Countess Ystride being a deeply pious and devout priestess (able to command temple knights to her cause) as she has high standing with the church.
