Renaise turned and smiled to the old woman. "All thoughts into words huh? That must have been a real pain sometimes. If not all the time. Kind of hard to erm... hold your tongue... with that thing." he smiled and nodded.

Renaise had a theory about why someone would need such a device, he was hoping what he had just said would show him if that theory was true nor not.

Marneus' interest was piqued. A device such as that could have powerful uses...if it truly communicated the old woman's thoughts, it was not beyond the realm of possibility that it could be harnessed for other purposes...perhaps her expressed difficulty at controlling which thoughts it revealed could be turned outwards. An item to read the thoughts of others...such a tool would be useful indeed. He glanced at the red-headed Elezen as he spoke, rolling his eyes at what came out of the man's mouth. Surprisingly, he mused, the dim-witted fool may be onto something. Not that it was too difficult to figure out, of course...there were only so many reasons the woman would be unable to talk for herself. Nevertheless, she had indicated it was hard to control and the cretin was obviously trying to bait her...perhaps if he riled her up enough, something would slip. Either way, it was certainly easier than trying to coax information out himself. He took a seat and listened curiously. He would learn more of the item before the night was out, that much was certain. His contact could wait.

Quote:She forced her eyes off the trinket and looked at the only female Elezen there.
"Brother? Seems to be a lot of sibling-talk here tonight, is this some kind of family reunion I didn't know about?" She grinned and took a drink of her ale.

Siva laughed and grinned at the woman "Not really just a friend and well he's just to cute to be my brother that'd be a bit scandelous" chuckles "I work for him as well" winks at the Miquo'te

"My name is Sivamet but friends just call me Siva. You are welcome to do so as well lass if you so choose." Siva cast a look for her ale to be delivered before returning her gaze back

"And what would your name be?" she asked with a smile

In her younger days she would have been an easy target for such a tactic. Azreiel and anger went side by side, and still do, after all you can not teach an old dog new tricks? Or so the saying goes. Bar fights, minor scraps and bloody encounters were all to familiar. Some of them were for pride's sake, others to defend what was hers, sometimes it was for a friend, but all to often it was because her temper had gotten the better of her.

But she wasn't young anymore, and even with a fearce bit of fight left in her aging bones, she knew she had to pick and choose her battles a little more now. Which was to suggest that yes...yes she still choose them every now and again.

Sure, in her younger days she might have likly stomped over to Renaise for that comment about her tongue. Argued with him over his words, taken everything he said personal and the end result may have well been a bar fight. But she didn't engage in those sorts of actions much anymore, MUCH being the key word. Oh, this old bat still packed quite a punch, but also, there was wisdom now.

She ignored the comment retaining to her tongue...for now. She had no desire to reveal all her cards like a fool. After all she appeared to be just another aged old crone with nothing useful to say, and that image fit just fine with her, she got into less trouble when people thought that.

Having explained what was asked in regards to her little trinket, she took a quick look to those playing cards. She was the center of attention now and she disliked that. She found no need for idle conversation anymore. So with out saying so much as another word she made her way back to her seat, moving much more quickly now, not so much as letting her walking stick touch the ground. There was a youthful sort of skip in her step almost, as if just the thought of running her sword through Renaise for such ignorant words brought excitment, and a little bit of dissapointment to her. She motioned to her empty mug and spoke to the tender.

"Another when you have a moment." and she sat once more.

Sass listened to the tale spun by the old women. What a cursed device, he thought. He could not imagine the reasoning why someone would be gifted with such a cruel device, and by the way she wore it, it was needed.

He looked to her and spoke, "I deeply regret poking fun at your expense, those said and unsaid, honored elder." he sad with sad regret. The small stars he had set off to the ceiling begun to fall around the patrons an blink out of existence. He smiled up to them and wished them well."good bye my light, back to the stars you are born from and the void where you rest."

He focused his attention on the serving maid. She was starting a picture. He smiled as he watched.

(I wrote this before Sass posted his but I got busy with the baby. I think it still works though since her first paragraph ends by talking to Sass. Of course... it is 3:37am so forgive me if I'm wrong ^^Wink

"I'll bring you another drink." Cassondra smiled at the woman as she placed her pencil on the table. Placing her left hand flat against one page of her sketch pad, she tore the right side free from the book with her other. Then she repeated the action with the page after that. Standing up from her chair she went to the table next to her and placed the first portrait in front of the Miqo'te with a smile, "As promised. I'll be back to settle with you once I get our other friend a drink. You're next, Sass."

She turned again from the large table of patrons and back to where the old woman was seated alone. Taking the woman's glass she said quietly, "It must... be lonely sometimes having to deal with that by yourself. Treasure or curse I think you handle it better then most could."

With that she laid the second portrait down on the woman's table and walked away quietly to get her a refill.

(The picture of Seraj shows her holding up one hand with three dice, oddly all with 7's showing, stacked on top of each other between her index and middle finger. She is winking one eye and a slight glimmer in her other one. Instead of a smirk on her face she's smiling as if she is letting everyone in on a good joke and in the bottom right hand corner are written the words, "Good luck needs no explanation." The picture of Az shows her in a battle pose, wielding her cane as if it were a sword. While her face bore the same wrinkles as the woman everyone saw, there is the slight glimmer of youth and kindness in her eyes. However, instead of a frown, a grin that heralds a warning to those who cross her. Beneath the detailed drawing of the necklace were the words, "It takes courage to become who you really are.")

Seraj smiled back at Siva, though it was closer to a smirk.
"I'm Seraj. And ah well, a bit of scandal hasn't hurt anyone, has it?" she continued, glancing quickly at the Elezen, Siva had talked about.

When Sondra placed her drink and the drawing in front of her, she took a gulp of the drink before looking at the drawing, then grinned.
"That's great, kid, I'm very impressed. How much do I owe you?" she asked, reaching for her pouch, then pulling out a brooch, shaped as a small golden leaf and held it up between two fingers where it caught the light.
"Will this cover it? I don't really wear trinkets like this myself..."

Renaise took another swig of his ale, then stretched, cracking his neck again he smiled at Cassondra. "Certainly have some talent there... and I don't mean just the drawing, very... insightful."

Renaise looked over at the trinket that Seraj had on display. "Seems a weird thing for a sailor to have had... or was that from a previous unlucky contestant?" Renaise smirked. "You know? I actually feel in the mood for a dance... might be the ale talking though..." he chuckled and took another glug.

He looked over at Sivamet as she came to sit down at his table and gave her a nod, taking a rather long drink from his mug of ale, almost finishing off before leaning back.

"Ah, well, it would seem ah'm not alone anymore heh, glad ye could make it out te' join me. What brings ya over here anyhow?" He asked her as he motioned for the barmaid to come to his table.

"Refill please," he said as he gave the woman a nod.

"As fer what ah'm doin, jus wanted te' come by and see how tings are ran ere', looks like they have quite ah few extra tings' goin on, artwork, storytellers, and free drinks. Makes fer quite a packed house." He said and rubbed his chin as he looked around the tavern, his eyes focusing on each patron at the table he just left before returning to Sivamet.

"That group dere, they are ones te' watch, ah' sure somethin' interestin will happen to them soon enough, mark my words, especially te' Hyur, she has the most interestin taste in jewery." He said with a grin

The man calling himself Marneus rolled his eyes and returned to his original seat, replacing his hood properly along the way. The young fool had driven the old woman off and he was unlikely to learn more now. No matter, it would have likely been a fruitless line of inquiry anyway. Almost as soon as he settled himself again, the bone reappeared from inside his sleeve and resumed the dance between his fingers. A few moments later, the door swung open and a cheery blonde Hyur Midlander man entered, spying the table and hopping into the seat opposite the hooded man. A satchel clanked noisily at his side as he grinned in greeting.

"Evening D...sorry, "Marneus" he said with a wink. "Got your stuff right 'ere. I'm assuming you're gonna want to inspect it before paying like always, but I gotta insist you do it right 'ere. 'ad some try and run out on me without payment." He pulled the satchel into his lap and unlatched it, passing three small vials across the table. "Just some small samples. Got the rest in the bag if they're to your liking. Tak your time." The hooded man set the three vials in front of him and uncorked each one in turn. The first contained a white, powdery substance which he dipped his finger into and tasted with a nod. The second was filled with a deep red liquid, this one he examined with a quick sniff. The third and final vial was home to a viscous green goo. He held it up to the light and peered through it, checking for translucency.

"They appear to be...acceptable. The quality on this" he said, holding up the third vial "is somewhat lacking. It shall be sufficient for current needs, but I would suggest that you take care to improve the quality of your goods should you wish to continue our business arrangement."

Siva chuckled softly at Seraj "nice to meet ya" she said as her ale was delivered and she paid the barmaid before looking at Kima.

"I was aquiring some items for the Underground's forge that needed my personal approval and was on my way back rather when I heard the music. Figured another tavern so here I am"

She gazed around at each of the bits of entertainment he pointed out before her eyes fell on the table he nodded toward and she flipped her braid back over her shoulder and nodded
"yea I can see why they'd be busy. Should see if Rosine knows a story or two. Perhaps hold storytellin contests for your patrons to spin their yarns yea?"

she took a long pull of her ale as she watched the table momentarily he had just pointed out her violet gaze turning meeting his "Oh does she now?" returning his grin.

Seraj sent Renaise a smile, as the trinket disappeared into her hand.
"No, it was not from a sailor, this one. Sometimes you just have to be at the right place at the right time," she winked at him, then cocked her head to one side.
"You dance? I would be amused to see that."

Sass nodded to Cassandra, "Ah, thank you very much, I never really had a picture of myself on in with out the words WANTED somewhere." He said emphasizing the word wanted with his hands. He shrugged a bit "but that is past me now I hope." A brief shadow pasted in front of his eyes but Sass returned quickly to his smile. "no chocobos in the picture though. Vile creatures are plotting to take over the world, I can just feel it. " He said with sincerity.

Sass turned his chair to Cassy and tried to sit still. When that failed he reverted to trying not to giggle and making a few odd faces.

She kept to herself, only breifly nodding or sending a look here and there when spoken to both by the strange fish smelling man, and the bar keep. Her ears kept attuned to the conversations going on around her however. The seemingly shady dealings with the curious Elezen, and of course what spiked her attention the most. The mention of wanted posters.

Her lips scrunched and her eyes narrowed for a moment. So this one was wanted, it didn't matter where really. Her mind flashed to ideas such as collecting bountys or perhaps blackmail...surly there was some way she could profit from this? If Sassaroth was wanted BADLY ENOUGH...it could be well within her interests to keep an eye open for the right moment.

But for now she would just enjoy her drink, and perhaps mull over the possability. With a quick shake of her head she brought herself back to the moment. Drinking her ale much slower now, as she peered around with interest now.

Cassondra smiled at Seraj and the red-headed Elezen, "Thanks for the compliments!". When Seraj presented the gold leaf as payment, Sondra's green eyes would widen to the point of nearly falling out of her head, "Wow! That's so pretty! I really love it, thanks!"

After affixing the brooch to her dress and filling Kima's glass she sat down in her chair and began her sketch of Sass. Every so often she checked over her shoulder to see if the old woman had noticed her portrait.
