((ORIGINAL POST: Now that I have my new comp. at my house, I'm finally able to partake in voice chat with old and new friends alike. I know some online gamers aren't really down for the whole 'get to know you IRL' thing, but I love it. I love making new friends and getting to know each of them more and more.

So.....I'd think it'd be pretty bombastic if the RPC had an official voice chat prog. set up (TS, Vent, Skype, etc.). I know some have preferances for various voice chat progs, but I don't really care either way. Whatever the general population decides to use for voice chat, that's what I'll use.

Thoughts? Opinions? Feedback? Huh

I have Skype on my phone so that I can talk to some of my friends without burning minutes up.

I generally prefer to keep my voice anonymous, that way, everyone will hear the voice that fits my character in their head during RP, not my deep ass dumb guy voice.

Intriguing idea. I share similar sentiments as Axl. I still use ventrilo with some old RL WoW friends, but every time I joined a guild vent chat when playing on the EU servers I felt very self conscious for getting a bit of undesired attention. From that point on if I was on I was usually silent/muted.

If it's something official you're after, there'd be a lot to keep in mind - would it remain IC? Would there be separate channels for IC/OOC? What would it cost to maintain and who would see to the maintenance? Would we have enough slots to cater to all those interested in joining?

I'd be happy to contribute toward it if enough people wanted to get it off the ground, whether or not I actively participated in its use. Smile

Oh and I use skype as well but usually for calls to my siblings across the giant pond. Smile

There was talk of this a while ago but it was decided ventrillo might be a little expensive. I'd be all for it if there was a server for it. My linkshell in FFXI uses it all the time but it seems like 4 or 5 people dominate the conversation and doesn't let the other 20+ people on vent get a word in edgewise. No idea how to use Skype though ><

You just download it and make an account, and then you can add people to yout "phonebook".. Smile

I'm not exactly sure how to do group conversations, but I'm sure it's not that hard to figure out...

About Vent: If enough people donate a bit of money for it, it shouldn't be too bad... I can see why one person don't want to do it, but if all of us donate something, it shouldn't have to be more than a dollar, max... Not sure how to make it work though ^^
