This won't help but er yeah...

RPC has been extremely slow loading today and I constantly get 500 internal server errors.

Perhaps something is wrong? XD

There's definitely something weird going on, quite possibly on the server we're on (huzzah for shared web hosting; it makes me want to move the site to my Azure VM Smile

). I'll check with the hosting company and see if we can't get to the bottom of it.

We were under a denial of service attack from a spammer, and the hosting company was nice(?) enough to put us under semi-permanent CPU restrictions as a result. I've banned the spammer's entire netblock so that shouldn't recur, and everything should be back to normal now.

Wooh! I was worried that the site was getting attacked which is why I posted. Glad to hear it should be mostly resolved if not completely.

It was specific to our site and from the Ukraine. It could have been an out of control, malfunctioning spam bot instead of an intentional DoS attack, but the end result was the same.

Is anyone else not able to see the wiki? When I click on it all I get are weird symbols and letters.

I also had some errors show up occasionally last night while browsing the forums and entering threads.

The main wiki link on the bar gets me the page full of symbols.

I can still go to specific character's wiki pages.

So, one of the things I did to help make the site more resistant to broken spambots was to turn on output compression and caching in MediaWiki. Of course, if those are turned on by your hosting provider anywhere else in the stack (Apache/nginx, PHP, etc.), hilarity such as what's being observed ensues. Sad

I'll turn off the output compression and clear the wiki cache when I'm in a location where I can do so.
