Title says it all really. How does your character react when they lose at a game?
Are they cool with it, or do they flip tables?

What if someone cheats, and your character figures out they're cheating?

I've never thought about it much until this popped into my head. I think that Nailah is more the type that gets surprised when she actually wins something. She'd not be shy of playing games, even betting money - and might even be good at losing so as to sway people when making deals with them. If someone cheated, I don't think she'd get angry ry the way, but would more be the kind of person that plots a small revenge like, spiking a drink on the next occasion or paying someone to dump paint on that new white outfit of theirs.

Eleni does not take to losing well. She will flip tables, and she might even throw one heck of a tantrum. Then she'd just sit in the corner with a pout and not talk to anyone until they say sorry (even though they didn't do anything)

If she found out cheating was the method used to win, she'd do the same, with an added dimension of some sort of a physical blow to the face or gut.

If someone decides to play Triple Triad with her IC, well... don't say I didn't warn you!

Y'lani was taught to not give up until she does win. It's both because of this and her own brashness that she is a sore loser. If a challenge ends before she has the chance to win, she'll either go sulk or start a fight.

She'd make an awful gambler.

Chachan is actually a much better loser than I am. He may pout a little if he was close or things seemed stacked against him, but he's happy as long as he had fun in the process. And if one of his friends - or the person that beat him - wins the whole thing, then that helps him feel better about it.

Meanwhile, I was honestly grumping quite a bit at the last Grindstone showing because of all the low rolls I was getting. Laugh

Depends who Bryn loses to.

Losing a fight against a Highlander / Roegadyn = Instant Lady Boner.

Losing a fight against anyone else = put on a nice smile and congratulate them while seething inwardly.

Bryn and Dogberry need to spar!

Dogberry loses quite a bit. He doesn't mind as long as he makes a good showing of it. Dogberry's strength is his resilience. Losing, or getting your ass kicked isn't the end of the world. Getting up is all that matters.

Now, if he finds that she's been cheated, or the odds were stacked against him, he can bare an intense grudge.

Iskierka, however, has yet to find anyone playing any of the games she's playing. We'll find out how she takes a loss someday.

It's funny that this topic comes up today. Before yesterday, I would've told you that my character is a somewhat graceful loser, who keeps his mouth shut and doesn't complain, who maturely recognizes and acknowledges a loss.

Yesterday I learned that this stoicism is a façade, and that he is, in fact, very, very childish, and deep, deep down he hates to lose. He just usually hides it really well.

I learned this because he got a fistful of smelling salts pushed back at him and up his nose. Now granted, he's no Miqo'te, but most folks would take that sort of thing badly. He took it... well... the best way I can describe it is as "an attention-seeking hissy fit of an obnoxious tantrum that had him stomping up and down through the dirt, kicking up sand and in general being so immature that I almost walked away from the keyboard in shock that the character had twisted in my hand like that." Seriously. The character narrative took over and my fingers were busy typing away the last thing I'd expected.

Depends.

If he wholly believes the other person is more talented than him, he will actually be disappointed in them if he wins, rather than proud. Nor would he be sore if he lost.

If he lost to someone he knows he's capable of beating, he'll smile outwardly while berating himself inwardly before leaving.

Oskwell's quite gotten used to having the shit kicked out him, so his first instinct when he loses a fight is to get up and semi-consciously stumble to the nearest medic and/or bottle of liquor, then seethe later in private.

Jack, on the other hand, is quite possibly in the running for sorest loser ever. If he can't find some way to claim victory in a situation, he's liable to grab a musket and try to make sure that whoever beat him carries the trophy home with a limp.

Varicar's response really depends on how the person takes their victory. Those that don't rub it in get a congratulations and he will try to figure out the reason he lost if he didn't already and improve. For him, it's all in fun. Someone that's rude about it gets a snippy comment or two before he relocates elsewhere while his mood resets, returning only to harass them if they are a friend.

If he found out cheating was the method in which they won, he'd probably demand they teach him that trick or use that as reasoning to cheat next time he had any contest with that person again. Probably both.

I would say Franz is a good spot about losing -most- of the time. He certainly gets upset about it under a number of circumstances though.

Easiest way to set him off? Gloat in him face about it. Nobody likes a braggart. Especially not a overly proud Garlean who is proud of where he came from despite having every reason not to be.

But for the most part? If "losing" was still entertaining, then all is fine. He's likely to just stand back up and accept his loss if it is a battle of wit or skill.

Faye keeps her calm on the outside and is typically polite and casual about it. On the inside, she's plotting vengeance and doom.

It depends entirely on what Val is losing at. If it's something he knows he isn't great at, he'll take it in stride. If it's something he thinks he's amazing at, his pride takes a pretty huge hit and he tends to sulk about it.

The fun is in the game, not in winning or losing!  Most of the time Wink
