Here is the concept: Final Fantasy XVI is out and your character is in it. What is their role in the story? Are they the hero? If so, what kind? Are they the upbeat happy kind, the stoic soldier type, or something else? Are they the chosen one/the key to saving the world or just some schmuck tossed into the middle of it all?

Are they a side character? If so when are they recruited by the main character? Are they an NPC or one of the hero's party members. Are they the super hyper energetic one, the quiet down to earth type, the moody one, or something I haven't mentioned? Are they the character that snuggles into the player's heart only to tragically die to further the plot/motivate the main character?

Are they the villain and if so, what kind? The avatar of pure evil and chaos, the crazy who kills just because, the emo goth with mommy issues, or just another Warrior of Darkness whose purpose is to balance out the hero's light?

There is plenty you can work with, but try to keep it with the context of Final Fantasy. Also try to use similar tropes to what we have seen in previous Final Fantasy games. You don't have to use the questions I suggested if you don't want. Bonus points if you,
1: can name a Final Fantasy character who fulfills the same or similar role, and
2: what classic Job does your character have/play style adhere to?

I'll start: Cecilia is not the main character, but one of the main party. Her role is the down-to-earth type who holds the party of friends together and likely childhood friend to at least one of the party members whom she pesters. She is the White Mage of the group and has a higher chance of dying in the story than the others, but not as much as the main character's love interest.

Closest character comparison would be Refia from Final Fantasy III.

Kellach would either be the main character of a Hildibrand type side-quest, or the Mimic Job Trainer.

Chachan would be your Secret of Mana Watts-style character! He'd have his own little story going on alongside the player party's (and possibly even join in as a guest now and then), but his main purpose would be to sell/upgrade the party's weapons and armor. He might even be the one to make the endgame armor if brought the proper materials (and you've progressed his sidequest chain far enough)!

Erik would be a mid-level quest giver NPC. Something to do with a Flame quest chain, lv20-25 range?

Oliwat is actually designed as a character to fill a character type I've seen in various places, which I call the Odd Wanderer. They show up in strange places at opportune times, offer advice that seems out of place at the time, yet becomes surprisingly relevant later, help the party or player when they're stuck, and as far as anyone can tell, have forgotten more than anyone else will ever know. Bonus points if where they come from is forgotten or far away, or never mentioned at all. Famous examples include the Wandering Minstrel, Kaepora Gaebora from the Zelda series, and others. He'd be dressed as a mage of some sort, but no skills of his would ever be seen in combat.

Adalhaid would probably be the Outsider of the main party, and recruited later or last in the storyline. She's the sort that remains quiet and says Basically Nothing at all times. She doesn't have any personal connections to anyone in the party, at least not outwardly, and would probably only be recruited because of her prowess in combat. Side-plots that delve into her background later on in the story may cause her to open up to the party a bit, completing the Circle of Friendship they'd need to tuck the final boss away for good. She'd be a Monk, class-wise.

Arry for the most part is comedy relief. She's also a side character, kind of happy, rarely gets angry type. She tends to be a sidekick, rather than a 'hero' type.

Akayuri is more or less the same, though less comedy relief aside from her 'broken Eorzean' and not knowing most of the slang. She's also a 'background' character, the type that kind of just hangs around quietly watching, then can tell other people about it. Like a narrator. Most of the time characters won't even know she's there unless they spot her (which is actually how she got into HoD IC; for weeks she just watched everyone until Lainseworth and Val spotted her in a corner behind a potted plant).

Nebula would be a strange witch character you meat throughout the game. She would be there to help the hero but always wanting you to do things for her in order to get her to help you.

And those things would be quite strange. A cross between these two

Aaron would be that character that jumps in and out of your party at key points throughout the story for certain reasons.

He'd also be a possible candidate for a permanent member if you do his special side quests that build up his motivation.

Attitude wise his personality mostly resembles Squall from FF8 with the whole lone wolf deal.

Asmo would be a fate based NPC like the lighting fates wore. Main difference being would be able to see Asmodean fighting with different weapons for each fate. Think of it as way to show off the different weapon skills of the DoW class.

Maybe have a little story to go along with the different fates from area to area as well. Maybe even have him as part of the postmoogle quests.

A side character with her own side-quest story line. She is passive enough to not affect the main plot, but has a fairly involved backstory and several exclusive NPCs associated with her. Her role would most likely be analogous to Yuffie in FF7 or Clive in Suikoden II.

This is actually how I tend to see most PCs in my RP, more or less. Who is the main character? Whoever the attention is most on at the time... XD

Kat would be a guest that pops up several times in a normal playthrough.

She's got her own shtick going on which leads to a bunch of side quests with some sort of powerful level 40-ish tank gear at the end and permanent residence in your party roster. It's also possible she'd be some incarnation of Cid or at the very least Cid's lackey/assistant number 2(08964)

Nah on the other hand would be part of the main party as soon as you meet her. Say by the 2nd town you come across. She's always wanted to go on a grand adventure and she'll move heaven and hell to be part of your crew.

Depending how the plot goes, it is possible for Kat to be a mid-game boss or persistent under boss if the main enemy faction's mechanical or technological in nature. She'll never side with the main heroes.

I can see Ramen to be that one side character that's a guest then your enemy at some point because reasons but you probably beat the light back into her with justice and friendship. At any rate she'll be your peddler for things, say a conveniently placed merchant of potions and curatives in a dungeon whose stock grows the more you buy or otherwise invest in her ventures.

Khujin's that optional boss who either joins your party or drops a powerful weapon upon defeat.

Glacir would probably best be one of two roles:

Either the recurring NPC who delivers perfectly timed exposition and information on where to go next, or what to prepare for for the next boss.

Or a mid to late game optional boss who gives you that one spellcasting job you're missing and really want to use, but by this point in the game you'd have to really grind levels to have it catch up to other jobs and be viable.

clio would have a few annoying side quests that unlock the customization for your airship. once the ships are unlocked, her quests would be available in the same city you got your ship and usually involve some sort of race or supply mission with a timer. once the specific custom option is unlocked; you'd have to get specific items from random drops in order to make the customization you're wanting. failed missions and she gives you snarky comments, success an she's begrudgingly complement your skills. customization takes between half to a full day in game to complete. there's also a secret side quest unlockable through erik's side quests when done correctly that will allow you to add clio into your party.

I've discussed this with friends before. Big Grin

The "Odd Wanderer" type fits Avis as well. She'd be that NPC who dishes out cryptic words of advice to strangers that don't seem to make sense until later in the game. She probably wouldn't even be named, and might just be labelled as "Mysterious Woman" or something. I can also see her as the character you have to talk to to open up some kind of menu for access to a database or lore encyclopedia. OR that side-quest nerd loitering around dubiously outside of dungeons / ruins, waiting to thank the protagonist for beating the crap out of the boss before she goes in for the scholarly loot. She wouldn't have much of a backstory or be connected in any important way to the main party.

I see Qara as a mid-to-late addition to the Final Fantasy party, the one the player rarely bothers using or leveling because her OP-or-miss witch doctor skills are so strange to use, and more likely than not a liability anyway at this stage. (Think Relm / Quina / Cait Sith-level weird.) She'd have a short side-quest or two where you figure out bits and pieces of her backstory, though it'd never involve travelling to her distant homeland. She's likely to pull an FFVI Shadow of some sort in the ending and disappear on the party. No one ever figures out what happened to her... not that they discuss this much either during celebratory epilogue shenanigans.
