The hours turned to days as War waited for the chance to prove himself. If not for the paycheck, for the comfort of his friends that insisted he joined their outfit. His history was sketchy especially of recent. He agreed with Lt. Onuma Ahntifi, he was potentially dangerous and needed to prove he was worth the potential risk. But he could not argue with Fyrilsunn either that he needed friends around while he did. So what choice did he have but to wait.
Soon near the second week of waiting, there came a hysterical ruckus of a woman wailing screams of remorse and pain, in the courtyard of Camp Dragonhead ones of a mother anguished over loss of child. War walked from the door way he was standing in to hear more what the commotion was over. He loomed over the crowd of Elezen, and listened to the grieving mothers tale of woe, of her caravan robbed and her child taken by heretics. The Elezen Knights murmured, words like "under manned", "Preparing for coming battles", where thrown around a small delegation of Knights offered too look for the child, but were pulled aside by what appeared to be the commanding officer. The woman's brief expression of hope turned back into woe as the knight returned with his head down. "Oh fucking hell." War thought to himself. "You're here to prove yourself to this group not get involved with the locals.. you need the coin.. you need the coi..oh now is not the time conscience..Fine..FINE I'll do it." the exchange went on for few seconds in his head, before he finally walked over to the grieving mother who had not picked herself off of the snow covered ground yet. Kneeling down he looked at the lady and softly said in his gruff voice "Tell me which way they ran when they took the child." The woman looked up tears in her eyes she pleaded thanks to the Hellsguard. He smiled trying to calm her down and listened carefully as she recounted the events that led to her child being taken.
The site of the attack was still somewhat fresh when War made his way to it. The fresh snow had not yet started falling he hefted his huge axe further up on his shoulder before he bent down to examine the tracks. He recounted how the battle must have went here, fast and hard the merchant family didn't stand a chance, it was a wonder at all the woman was allowed to live. He contemplated on that fact for a moment before deciding this must all be a trap. Likely they let the woman live to draw out some of the knights and dwindle their numbers further. Perhaps that's why the Officers were reluctant to help. His long Greyish Black and White Hair whipped in the wind from under his helmet as he looked out in the direction of the tracks. "Well they want a fight, who am I to disappoint." He mirthed to himself out loud. He stood op and readjusted his axe for easy access in case of any ambushes along the way and began to make trek in the direction of the tracks as the snowy began to fall.
He journeyed for what felt like a hour into the mountains, War came to a series of caves lit with inviting torch light. "Yep trap" he thought. With a heavy sigh he approached the entrance to the main cave, He found no ambush in wait. War raised an eyebrow as he slowly made his way into the cave cautiously with his axe raised as he descended into the cave he could hear a child's cries and a chanting chorus of voices, he followed the echoing sounds until he came upon a ritual chamber, where there was a small group of cloaked Elezen's in a circle around the child and two Avis' in the far corner. War clung to the corner as he surveyed the room. He watched as one of the cloaked Elezen had taken a skin flask and filled a goblet full of a crimson thick liquid, he watched as the cloaked figure made it's way slowly back to the child, and as another started to put a nippled cone into the child's mouth.
War breathed heavily knowing that what ever they were going to feed to that child it wasn't good he hefted his axe close and closed his eyes seemingly searching inside for something, a blackish purple mist started to rise from his body and he opened his eyes and let out a bestial roar, before running into the room. With a leap and a flash of steel the Elezen with the goblet hit the floor in two halves. The other cloaked figures let out a gasp of horror before drawing their blades, and rushing to the enraged monsterous Roegadyn. The sound of steel clashing and flesh rending rang sickeningly through out the cave walls. As War dispatched one Elezen after another the last came up from behind and shoved a dagger into his backside. With a roar of pain War whipped around and grabbed the Elezen's face with his massive hand and just crushed it in, a trail of gore leaked from between War's fingers. With a rising heat of flame breath brewing War knew The Avis' were upon him. He spun around and smacked the closest in the head with the hammer like backside of his massive axe and then using the Avis as a shield as the second let loose a fiery breath. With a quick fierce twist the first avis' neck cracked and War then whipped it's body at the second one. Using the distraction War Lept over the Avis and buried his axe blade firmly into the second Avis's skull. As the Avis hit the ground War dropped to his knees frothing at the mouth trying to center his beast inside. He struggled as a great pain came over his chest and he let out a monstrous roar before blacking out.
When he awoke he was not sure how long he lay there unconscious whether a few minutes or a few hours. But the cooing of a child's voice greeted his ears from the alter. As he picked himself off the floor and out of the gore, and slung his axe by it's chain back over his shoulder and made his way over to the child. "You're safe little one.. Let's get you home to your mother." Ignoring his wounds he picked the child up, and wrapped it in his fur jacket, as he made his way back to camp. He entered the camps gate covered in gore holding the wrapped child close. The Mother from earlier came running out "My baby, my baby!" War handed the child to the mother and smiled. The mother looked to the bloody Roegadyn, "How can I ever repay you?" smiling War just shook his head. "Think nothin' of it darlin'. I may be a mercenary but not even I would leave a child to it's fate. No if you excuse me, I need to get these wounds looked at.. and I need a drink." War walked off to where he had been staying when a young Elezen knight came running up to him "Monsieur War Bear, Monsieur! The people you were waiting for they were here and left out on a mission." War just looked to the sky and laughed "You Twelve sons and daughters of Bitches.. can't make anything easy on me can you."

Playing some character, maybe on Balmung, maybe not.
(Or am I hiding in the shadow next to you, maybe even posing as your best friend?)
