Hello, my character is Miune steadhal on the Siren server. I'm a big fan of RP and I'm looking to get my foot in the door, make some friends, and generally have a good time. as I stated before I'm on the Siren server, does anyone know how active that community is for RP? should I move servers? I'm also curious about how closely people adhere to the lore, and if people are generally accepting of lore bending, or if people tend to stick to it closely.

I believe there are a few Siren roleplayers but I could be wrong. Most of the roleplayers here on RPC are on Balmung with sizable population on Gilgamesh and other servers such as Adamantoise, Jenova, etc. If you want to keep at searching for RP on Siren, check on tumblr, the official forums or on reddit.com/r/ffxiv

Otherwise, if you're looking for a -large- variety of RP, Balmung is available.

In regards to adherence to lore, it really depends on who you RP with.

I myself roleplay with the idea that if the lore makes it seem plausible, I may go with it and bendy. Others are very strict and will roleplay with the idea that it is very defined; if it's not present in the game then it's not possible. Even possible to add that even if it is in the game, the main character is [you] the singular Warrior of Light who is the special one and as such not indicative of general roleplay.

Others want to stay away from WoL and Echo roleplay while others embrace it. Really just depends on who you find.

With regards to Lore: The best thing you can do is try. And when rping with new people don't be afraid to shoot them a tell and let them know you may not understand the lore perfectly and don't mind them shooting you advice.

I've noticed a lot of the people who are really lore heavy love to teach others as well, because who wouldn't? So when you open up that line of communication saying 'Hey, I'm still learning' They are much more receptive to helping out rather than just staying quiet and having them not know if they should speak up or not.

If you've got the money and want to get into RP, I'd transfer either to Balmung or Gilgamesh.  If you want to do some research, I'd keep an eye out and start a character on them if you can to see how the communities work (they're pretty different).

If you end up on Gilgamesh, let me know or try to get in touch with Adolar Stone.  We can get you plugged in and involved.  The Gilgamesh community is pretty tightly woven.

Wow I'm rather surprised at all the responses I got already, thank you! I think I'll try my hand at making a char on one of the servers, then if it goes well, transfer myself over there. one more question which may seem silly. Is there any difference between balmung or gilgamesh rp wise? like any major guilds doing a rp theme or is it pretty much varied. the reason i ask this, because back in Tera some of the major guilds had rp's going that would sort of encompass the server as a whole and I was wondering if that sort of thing was happening here, and if so what the guild stories were.
also I apologize for any ramblings or run-on's that I may do, I'm currently home with an illness and the pain medicine makes it hard to focus at times.

While there are sometimes global events in which everybody is able to come to, there really isn't a "global" setting on the server that I am aware of. Most of the Free Companies and Linkshells have their own general environment and what type of RP's they do. You can view a lot of the FC's and LS's HERE. They normally list what kind of stories they have there, so it might make it easier to browse through the list and see if any catch your eye before deciding what server to hop too if you do.

From what I can tell, Gilgamesh has a more tied-story RP across those RPing on the server.

With the amount of differing styles and peoples, Balmung has less of that 'world rp' and more story encased into linkshells, FCs or circles of roleplayers.

Keep in mind that the creation of characters for Balmung is a very narrow window. Usually about less than 5 minutes. I know people have spent weeks trying to make one. Generally the fastest, surest way to get into Balmung is by character transfer. Keep in mind if you have the plan that you can have multiple characters on one world you can have them moved all from the same server A -to- the same server B on the same $18 of transfer.

Gilgamesh is restricted but not to such narrow windows.

a little update. two other friends and myself moved to balmung as of today. we're looking for a home with rp if anyone can give some suggestions or anything of that nature I'd appreciate it. I'm also looking for a rping leveling companion. I've left a little post on making connections, but i'm not quite sure if I did it right, or am interesting enough to catch people's attention. anyways thank you all for taking the time to help me, I really appreciate it.
