So, the basic idea is I am just trying to tie the lore together as best I can. I am a huge lore nerd in regards to MMO's I play and A Realm Reborn is no different. Now, onto my question. The Battle of Cartaneau from 1.0, are characters that were only from 1.0 the ones that were at the battle and 2.0 characters are, for the lack of a better term here, random new scrubs just showing up and getting involved or, are 2.0 characters like 1.0 characters people that participated in the battle? I have heard conflicting stories on the subject but from what I have gathered from the story in the game itself, it makes it seem possible the "adventurer" you're playing was at Cartaneau unless I have just massively misunderstood, which is possible. If anyone can make heads or tales of this tired then godspeed and if anyone can clarify this info for a fact for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Game-wise, I believe that the storyline is the same for people from 1.0 as well as new people for ARR. That being the case, I think the game is geared to make you think that you are a hero from Carteneau and before it. Otherwise, it's left open to interpretation.

For RPers I think no one really minds if someone new to ARR claims to have been involved at the battle so long as they've got their lore straight and in reverse, many people who carried over from 1.0 didn't go anywhere near the battle.

With how it goes and from my interpretation, it's set up with the goal of making you feel like a hero, regardless of coming from before or later. It's why it's murky and not an exact "You are from the past." sort of bit, but more of a "I think you are."

Hydalen works in mysterious ways, so I think it's a safe assumption to say you could be either/or honestly. As you're allowed to recreate your 1.0 character or keep them the same, seeing as how it goes. It'd make more sense, you're either a survivor or you're a new person imbued with the same power as before from the fallen warriors.

Lost River has an amazing 1.0 tattoo, but of course, you couldn't play as female Roegadyn in 1.0. Now, we can play the guessing game as to what she originally was. :3

For the most part that has been what I've concluded from in game evidence and seen a few other threads say. The other side I have seen people saying the opposite because of the different openings that 1.0 legacy players get of just appearing and walking into your starting zone as opposed to 2.0 players getting carted in on the chocobo cart and giving the set up that the 2.0 carters are just adventurers from somewhere else just traveling to that zone at the time while the legacy intro seems to indicate the character finally reappearing from the time warp spell cast by Louisoix on those at Carteneau. That seems to be the main point of I contention have found in regards to this.

Wait, I remember that with Lost... but it makes zero sense, as she couldn't exist due to not be-

Guess I'll skip game limitations and go with that she was there. Woot, more mystery for Lost... and craziness.

It also means with I said applies and makes more sense though, you're either from the past -or- you're a new person imbued with the power of those fallen. So, Warriors of Light are more or less, Exalted from White Wolf's game, Exalted. :3

OH ho! I did not realize this, since I'm not a Legacy player; I've only known about the one opening and it seemed to denote as much.

I guess in that case the opening for new players in ARR is much like the opening for FFXIV 1.0 so my point is retracted on the matter of new players -likely- having been from the battle.

RP wise it doesn't matter. Roegadyn women were everywhere, they were just hiding in the shadows, biding their time! Really BIG shadows! *shakes Lost because she enjoys shaking her* If you want to be from the Battle, then you can look up the lore and go with it! If you don't want to have been there, no sweat~ No one's judging you.

Except me.

And probably Bahamut.

Hehe, of course you'll judge me waifu, it's why you married me. Remember? Or was that the intense amount of liquor talking! Lost remembers the battle, being a BLM, she was enthralled, but hey, she's a BRD now. That's another story for another time. :3

Darling, I accept joo for all joo flaws. Even if you didn't single-handedly win the Battle of Carteneau on behalf of Eorzea. That -is- a good question though and related to the topic--

Is everyone just assuming that male Miqos, female Highlanders and female Roegadyns were numerous back in 1.0 and they just didn't show up anywhere for some reason? Because that might affect your (general 'your' not specifically Lost River) story with whether or not you were at that battle.

Were they there? Yes. Were they playable characters? No. I give the benefit of the doubt due to game mechanic limitations at the moment of 1.0, it is alright to play as a race/gender that wasn't present as playable during the time of the game to -be- one from the past war. Why? Because that's gender/race bias if not. It also makes no sense at all to only include them now. So, a stretch of lore past game limitation wins for me!

And yes, Lost was there, no, she didn't win. But she did start over the Catalyst Project once she went Back to the Future.

It's not just the opening, this is coming from someone who has both a 1.0 and 2.0 character, some of the dialogue is different. Cid actually remembers your character if you played in 1.0, but most of the dialogue is the same. You can RP a character that was at the battle if you want to even if you never played 1.0 as I always felt like the main story and RP story doesn't have to line or nor should it. You wouldn't want ten thousand people claiming that they killed the main Garlean baddie in 1.0.

So storyline and mechanic wise the only difference is a few bits of dialogue and a neat tattoo, other than that they are pretty much the same exact story.

Speaking OF Carteneau itself has it ever been accessible? I know it was on the 1.0 world map but from what i gathered was never accessible, cause i guess the original plan of it to be opened much later got scrapped when 1.0 decided to be shut down. It is also present on the 2.0 world map as one would expect it to be cause it has to be a place that exists but is it also currently inaccessible still? For that matter, even if it did become open, how would you get to it in general. From what I could make out on the world map it's roughly between Mor Dhona and Northern Thanalan.

Looking at what I bolded, I mean it makes sense in the end that Cid wouldn't realistically know/remember EVERYONE who was in the battle, he would need one HELL of a good memory to do so cause that was a ton of people, so that's how they can kinda push that one under the rug if need be.

You don't know the power of Cid, no one can understand it. it's so powerful, people in game (NPCs) will make references to other Cid's. More namely, FFVII Cid, they could have sworn he was taller and smoked cigars.
