Although I've read the lore I still don't know about Ishguardians. I have seen plenty of threads and posts about them which have got me interested.

So if someone could please explain to me what exactly an Ishguardian is
that would be very well appreciated.

An Ishgardian is a citizen of the city-state Ishgard. The city itself is not yet open to players but the all outposts and towns in the Coerthas Central Highlands are under Ishgardian rule.

Ishgard is a nation that is currently closed off. It is located in Coerthas, which is north of the shroud. The Coerthas central highlands is the only open Ishgardian zone at present and is good if you want an example of what ishgard essentially is.

They worship Halone, are at constant war with the Dravanian horde (dragons) and have their own little holy crusade going on. So far they've been quite removed from the rest of the goings on in Eorzea.

Their society is run by a figure that is much like the pope, to give a real world comparison and four noble houses. These houses have their own armies of knights, including Dragoons.

Characters that claim to be Ishgardian are characters from Ishgard, basically! Why they're not IN Ishgard varies from character to character.

No, Garleans are a different thing. The term refers to those from Garlemald, the massive empire to the east of Eorzea that's currently (or was recently, depending on where you are in the timeline) attempting to invade and subjugate the land. Garleans are of two sorts: racial Garleans, who look like hyur but have a third eye on their forehead and an ineptitude with magic (thus their use of magitek), and Garlean citizens, who are of other races and largely from the lands taken by the empire.

You mentioned making a Miqote character? As far as I am aware the climate of the Coerthas region is too cold for Miqote to have emigrated there at any point in time (Seekers or Keepers). The Ishgardians would probably be very hostile against any who chose to as well unless there was some back story involved that eased up on them.

I could be very wrong.

Ishgardian society is mostly made up of Wildwood Elezen and Midlander Hyur. There are a couple of exceptions found in the world, such as a Roegadyn in Costa Del Sol that mentions being a chef in Ishgard.

I have not seen any instances of Miqo'te being part of Ishgardian society. Doesn't mean it's never happened or couldn't happen, but yeah. The climate might also be a problem as ExKage said, especially for Seekers of the Sun.

True. The ONLY Miqo'te NPC in Coerthas is an adventurer.
Because Coerthas is accessible, and the Order of the Twin Adder does operate there as well, it is possible that some Miqo'te might call the place home.... If they had a semi-crazy reason for doing so Laugh I'd see it more likely for Keepers of the Moon because of the Twin Adder, and the stone of Menphina being there. But I would call Ishgard a big stretch. They are very xenophobic. Very pro-Elezen.

Which makes my character leading a group of their exiles a big hilarious slap in the face of the city-state. Laugh

With regard to the climate, it may be worth noting that in 1.0 the Coerthas region was not blanketed beneath snow and was more of a mountainous evergreen type landscape. NPC's have remarked that the climate changed and grew cold (even in the summer) after the Calamity 5+ years ago.

Eva, an avid swimmer, often laments of missing the days when she used to enjoy the quiet solitude of a summer's dip in the Twinpools.

One interesting angle a Seeker might take would be having their character depart those lands after these climate changes took place. Just a thought.

My assumption is that Coerthas was cold enough that Miqo'te didn't travel there plus their hostilities to foreigners made it very hard for Miqo'te to have been their longer than just as adventurers or travelers. Even considering the Calamity.

After the Calamity, they've all probably left because of the changes, ie too cold for Seekers too clouding for Keepers.

In 1.0, I always assumed a subalpine to alpine climate for Coerthas just based on the terrain and flora/fauna. Which is to say, moderately warm summers on average and cold, often harsh winters.

There is a lot of empty space in the Coerthas Highlands. I don't think it's too far-fetched that a Keeper family or (though this seems less likely) Seeker clan might hail from the region pre-Calamity, perhaps migrating to the less harsh Black Shroud during the winter months.
