Hello!
I've stalked around the RPC forums a little bit, but I hadn't really thought about making an account until tonight. I already have a few characters ready to go on Balmung! I like to RP in game, but I also like to RP on messengers or forums (I think this can be better for scenes that can't really be accommodated by the MMO platform's limitations). I prefer lore compliance, and all my characters so far have been written accordingly to the best of my ability!
--MMORPG background
Embarrassingly clean... I would wager to say that FFXIV is my first real MMO, but I did play RO on and off for several years. lol... As for FFXIV specifically, I've been playing for about 6 months.
--RP experience
In game, I've done some spontaneous one-time encounters that were useful for figuring out my character's voice. My FC is slowly developing its eventual side focus for RP, and we once had an in-character introduction meeting officiated by the Company's leader... But we're a long way off from being completely ready, as we're still working on our immersion (IC glamors, fleshed out mansion decor, etc).
Outside of FFXIV, I've been RPing for a little over 10 years. This has been in various forms, whether exclusively on AIM/Skype, forums, or journal-based games. It's been one of my three primary hobbies for a really long time.
--Character ideas/info
I've actually already got a few fleshed out, so here's some surface descriptions of each!
✿ Yhah'a Nelhah:
My primary character, a male Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te (obviously), who has roots in conjury. He's easy-going, patient, somewhat of a naturalist, generally quite ethical, and focuses on others rather than himself if it can be helped. His interest in helping others he modestly attributes to the creed of his people's deity. At times, he can be a little bit impish, and he unintentionally can come across as aloof, as he has a hard time opening up to people.
He grew up in The Black Shroud, near Urth's Gift. His clan was extremely solitary and practiced conjury independently of Gridania's overseeing, thus lending to the bad reputations of Keepers for several reasons. Eventually, his clan divided, literally torn asunder by the forest once their Hearer went crazy and deserted them. An attempt to secure their Hearer back to their clan resulted in a strike that injured, and eventually blinded, Yhah'a. Gridania turned their backs on the majority of Yhah'a's clan during his recovery. When Yhah'a noticed the disturbingly fast degradation in his vision, he decided to leave the Shroud so that he might see the world before he went completely blind.
RP potential: I think Yhah'a would be a good friend and an interesting conversational partner to have around. He's also eventually going to be appointed the mediator and counselor of his Free Company once our ball actually gets rolling, so you can count on his shoulder to cry on. He's very supportive, but he also likes causing trouble if you're the right (or wrong) type of enabler for that sort of thing... There are options!
✿ Thielo Nybras:
Thielo's still a little bit of a work in progress... He's a Garlean fugitive harboring himself on Eorzean soil, wanted for beheading his older brother (a long story), who was an up-and-coming military presence in the Empire. In Thielo's defense, he was also a complete shit head, and he has no regrets for what he did. That said, Thielo is completely secretive and shady about his origins, because he knows that Garleans are no welcome presence in other parts of the world--and without the overwhelming support of his motherland behind his back to crush his foes, he can't risk being found out.
Thielo doesn't have any specific agenda, and I wouldn't necessarily call him a villain (he's just a snake), but he's morally gray at best and has a lot of horrible internalized Garlean sentiments about the rest of the world. He's a shit-starter through and through, and a generally abrasive person--typically, quite unpleasant to be around. He's fond of starting fights with other men for little reason other than for the love of fighting. He's foul-mouthed, bad tempered, condescending, highly educated and snobby (he was of pretty good social standing, back home), antagonistic and explosive. He definitely has his own damage, and his own problems, and these overwhelmingly negative aspects of his personality are a direct manifestation of those problems...
RP potential: Thielo is nigh impossible to befriend, and I can't imagine why you would want to befriend him. However! The potential for negative character relationships is ripe with this one, and I've played him outside of FFXIV for a long period of time. Hatefriends or enemies/rivals could be very fun! He's also very spontaneous, moreso than go-with-the-flow Yhah'a...
✿ E'leytai Hahnma:
I'M SORRY THERE'S SO MANY OF THESE ALREADY... I have one more still but I'll save that for later. E'leytai is a Miqo'te Seeker woman, and is typical through-and-through.
She has a love for thrill and hunt, obliges her urges apologetically (so she's sort of--or incredibly--ill-mannered) and has limited shame in expressing herself. She's energetic and proactive, and while she's not extremely bright, she has her own certain cunning. She's the most repudiated huntress of her territory of the Eft tribe (medium-sized clan on the beaches of La Noscea)--and for some reason, despite her obviously incredible genes, her Nunh wouldn't dutifully give her a hard earned pregnancy leave from her responsibilities. ...If you catch my drift.
So personally affronted by his cold shoulder, especially since they were children together, E'leytai childishly packed up her life and moved to Limsa some three years ago (much to the moaning dismay of her fellow tribeswomen). There, she took up the axe, and has been pretty popular in the Marauder's Guild for a handful of reasons. For one thing, she's damn good at swinging the cleave, and for another, she never shirks her duties or runs scared. Many of her close friends are meat-headed Roegadyn men, who she isn't afraid to drink under the table. Or try. She's pretty close. She can also arm wrestle a good half of her guild into simpering submission, which is exactly how she likes things.
RP potential: I'm not exactly sure how E'leytai gets along with other people. She's friendly, I think! And she loves to drink with people. But if you possess any kind of questionable quality, she'll call you on it frankly--and she's not above violent confrontation.
Okay, I'm done. wow sorry........
--How did you learn about the coalition?
I was curious about what resources FFXIV roleplayers use for lore, so I googled around and found this.
--What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy?
I think med/heavy progression is eventually entailed in my FC, so I don't want to entangle my characters too deeply elsewhere. This is of course just my tentative answer! But I would love some light RP with someone. If nothing else, I would love for my primary character to have friends outside of his own FC, but I think all my characters could benefit from some outside connections.
--Anything from real life you'€™re comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc)
I'm an incredibly infrequently practiced artist (ex: here), cuz my fire kinda died. I work part time at a nothing job, and I tutor English Colloquialism to a professor visiting the US from Ryukoku University, but I'm not certified or anything fancy. I care a lot about writing, and I have a lot of passionate opinions and feelings about it. I really like cartoons and video games, but lately the only game I've been playing is FFXIV. I don't really know what else to share, lol.
SORRY FOR THE EXTENSIVELY WORDED INTRODUCTION... Please be gentle with me.
