FFXIV's next expansion to be revealed during October Fanfest

I want samurai as a dps class. I also want them to dual-wield paired swords, with a katana and wakizashi (long and short), but unlike MNK or NIN, I want them to be two separate items. The shield slot is underutilized.

As for RDM, I'm actually in favor of a different weapon - rather than a rapier, something like a whip.

And a new race would be awesome - Viera look-alike or otherwise - but I'd rather they were shorter, rather than tall. We have so many tall races already.

And if I got to pick, I'd want to see something more like the Ronso anyway.

But mostly, I want new areas. Ishgard is cool, and all, but I want to see Garlemald already.

I agree, it would be pretty hard to fix armors...still rooting for smaller Hummingway type rabbit people, we do indeed have so many medium to tall races >,<;;;

I am all for both SAM (because ronin types will never get old to me) and RDM (because fencing through highschool and college, then being a mage lover ontop), but I think all these new shinies per expansion will need to start changing how we do the job/class mechanics.

Is anyone else hoping in anyway shape or form for a skip ability? Like, at the very least for subsequent characters or -something-. I can only do so much leveling on alts while trying to do content and trying to RP >.>;;;

Armoury bonus being per-account instead of per-character would be absolutely amazing. Utilises tuning for an existing system, still doesn't speed you through MSQ on your first go around, and rewards you properly for finishing on one character before the rest.

I'm hoping for Ala Mhigo, but there's nothing I think I'd feel disappointed over, either.

I am a little nervous about the rotations; they're already pushing the limit of complexity in some cases, and I'm not sure there's room to add more. (And I'm a controller player, so...)

God, yeah... I'm a PC player, so I think I have more room overall than you do. But, right now, my main DRG hotbar is full. I do not have any room for anything else in my main rotation. Anything else and I won't be able to reach it with the 1 to = keybinds, meaning that, because I'm a dumbass, I'm liable to forget to use it (when was the last time I remembered Phlebotomise exists? We just don't know).

If they raise the level cap by another 10 and, accordingly, add another ~5 abilities... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's definitely a thing! There's a few tricks I can do -- the crossbars and careful placement of what abilities are where -- but at a point, I can get really slow. I used to main DRG, and I had... I think three crossbars' worth, and I had to have all the off-GCD ones on both as I swapped between the two main combos.

Ninja is a little easier.

Especially with MNK and Ninja, that get very intensive in terms of skill speed. At 60 I'm stretching to my limits in terms of brain processing and it gets messy pretty fast.

For other DPS jobs there is more leeway, but still. Full hotbars already. I don't want to open a 4th one. I really don't want.

I've mentioned it a few times before, but I wouldn't mind if 60-70 only gave us one or two more skills and instead we got some new Traits. They're not as exciting, but it's an easy way to offer buffs or adjustments without having to throw off rotations or priorities.

Edit: Early prediction! Since 3.0 gave paladins back Holy Succor Clemency I'm hoping 4.0 gives us back War Drum.

Samurai is going to be such an anti-hype announcement. Yoshi's named it by name as something he wanted to implement, so it's not even really a reveal, just a "Oh look what we got around to."

Hell, depending on what we do in 3.4 and 3.5 we could see it implemented mid-expansion like Ninja was. That'd make everyone wonder about a new class without taking the wind out of their own sails.

Problem with tanking Samurai is... Another tanking class with a sword. All sword classes are exclusively tanking classes right now. How boring. With, arguably, perhaps, the exception of Ninja which is about dual handed short blades, but... yeah.

Why not a mage tank for a change? Or even craziest, a ranged tank (with actual gameplay limited range, shotgun type)? I don't know, make us dream.

How exactly do people expect a ranged tank to work? The mobs will aggro you and run right up to you, regardless of what distance you grabbed them from, so unless you intend to design a class around KITING, the ranged novelty is pointless!

Lmfao yeah a mage tank would be awful.

Unless they do it like a Red Mage, or something. Don't they use sword and gun?

RDM's design doesn't really lend to tanking. It could do some incredible things in FFXI in the hands of truly skilled players with the best possible gear, but that's not really the rule, just the exception.

RDMs used rods, staves, and swords across the series as a whole, but they also make use of both WHM and BLM (which throws up potentially all kinds of lore challenges) while also complicating what they would actually be doing in a fight. Giving a class okay-heals and okay-melee and okay-nuking generally means they're worse than specialists in every circumstance. It can be balanced, certainly, but if done incorrectly you either get a broken OP class or something worse than anyone else at everything.

I would like to see RDM as a DPS, all that considered. Give them spells on proc from melee combos, or make them do the dance like BLMs do with a melee/magic switch. I don't know how you'd incorporate the recovery aspect of it, though.

The thing with a mage tank...is that I would expect it to work somewhat like DRK already does, so I am not sure how much of a game changer that would be. It could become a higher DPS tank, but would likely start to rely on better armor, or max armor to keep up with other tanks in defense/health, and in this game, armor doesn't have the kind of stats that would be needed to keep a mage tank going unless it was like all the other tanks and therefor not much of a mage.

A sort of RDM/Elemental Fencer would be interesting, but probably upset lore a bit. Using elemental magic to produce buffs and debuffs, upping the burst ability of RDM to something near SMN, but work the job different...that may just be a glamour over SMN with no pet though.

I am not going to fight SAM, I think it should happen, fits well into the lore, could provide us with more Doman lore, and would work well for either DPS or Tank, though as a tank who knows how that would go over. I don't think they will do it as a patch, on the fact that Yoshi-P no Kami asked his team what they least liked about working on this game, and the overall answer was patch job introduction was the worst and there was a fear of mutiny over it haha. I just want Ronin to be walking around all over the place, complete with chest bandages and off-shoulder yukatas and all that. Bring. them. on.

If they were to do a mage tank, I think it should be Blue Mage. The traditional arsenal used by Blue Mages already suits itself to the concept of tanking (Bad Breath/1000 Needles for aggro, White Wind/Mighty Guard for defense/party protection). It would be an interesting spin on one of the weirder jobs.

A RDM would never work in this game right now, as the endgame is all about heal checks or DPS checks - neither of which would see a RDM as being useful. The Meta Demands Specialization, and RDM's are too middling to offer anything of worth at cap. All it would do is serve a few roleplayers' interest, and we know how this or any other MMO feels about that.

SAM is a given. In fact the only way I would be surprised is if it were NOT announced. The only question is what role it would fill. I lean more towards DPS, but who knows? There could be a case for a ronin facing down dragons by him/herself I guess? I just think the art of a samurai's swordplay is more fitting of a DPS role. But we've been surprised before.

So where does that leave the other jobs? Well, we still have that damn Musketeer's Guild in Limsa winking at us, and we have seen Mistbeard in action. Maybe that's our new tank; a sword-and-flintlock monster that offers alternate single-target and AoE moves.

As for the next healing class? That one is trickier. Assuming we're going to Ala Mhigo this expack, perhaps there's a job hiding there that can offer buff and heals. Maybe a Dancer? Eh.

Oh comon, be a bit imaginative, why would that kind of mage need to be vulnerable to interruption...? A heavy mage with solid barriers and heavy armour. Wouldn't that be original for a change?

Here's what I've been stuck on:

1) We know Samurai is in the cards, Yoshi has said he wanted to implement it but they picked NIN instead. SAM is a when, not an if.

2) Ala Mhigo is a likely nod for the expansion, but we already know about Mhigo's secret weapons: The Fists of Rhalgr! They've been in the game since 1.x, actually, so that's not going to be the class.

3) SAM doesn't quiiiiite mesh with what we currently know about Mhigo lore. Pikemen and griffons and monks, yes, but there's not much historical precedent for another kind of uber unit to get revealed.

4) Of course, the 3.0 jobs had dick-all to do with Ishgardian historical lore prior to THEIR reveal, so my previous point doesn't count.

4) I have no idea what to expect outside of SAM showing up. I'd love a mystic-arts sword guy since we get a peak at that in 2.55, but that's another weapon that would split the difference on use (the other being ACN/SMN/SCH books). They've expressed regret at the armory system, so...

5) I don't know what to expect, which is a rehash of my previous point. SAM feels like antihype, nothing else currently fits the bill. Anxious and Looking Forward To It.

I'd love to see a spell fencer type thing! I'd eat that up. What about a Chemist class as a healer? Could be cool.

And yeah, I hear you. No more bars, I hope.
