Magnafaux Posted October 17, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2016 Hey everyone! I played the beta of A Realm Reborn, transferring over to Balmung with intents to eventually RP when the initial rush of the game died down. However, shortly after getting to 50 as a WHM, I found most of my friends dropped the game quickly and almost at the same time. During that time I really didn't do much other than grind up to 50WHM and finish the barest bones of the main story. I'm not that great at being social, and was even worse then. So since I hate solo playing, and was too shy to look for a FC, I ditched the game and went with my mates to...GW2, I think? But after hearing about the Stormblood expac I got the urge to try FFXIV out again, and of course I'd like to add that RP spice that keeps games interesting when mechanics feel grindy. I'm hoping to pop back in and find a group of people I can relearn the ropes with (Plus pretty much everything that's been added since...the new start of the game, eheh.), along with learning general community stuff (Like I noticed that one tavern in Ul'Dah seems really popular, is there anywhere else that's a popular watering hole for RP wallflowers to people watch?). I vaguely remembered this website existed when I left, so I figured this was a good place to start, since its all about what I really want to be all about, right? So yeah, tons of questions, pretty much clueless about the game/Lore/community/what the heck I was doing before I quit but I'm sure I'll figure everything out in time! Any tips or suggestions where I could do some reading, or of any other places to get a feel for the Balmung community (Seems like the official forums are pretty dead? Different from WoW's MG forum, at least), etc would be super appreciated! Link to comment
Gegenji Posted October 17, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2016 The Quicksand is indeed one of those RP hubs where one can wallflower pretty well. Balmung's pretty amazing in that you can go to MOST locations and find some manner of RP going on, so you could easily find several places to do that. Or you can check out the calendar and find yourself an event or three to sit in on and check things out! As for your questions, there's sections here for that... or you can just ask your biggest ones right here in your thread and someone will likely pipe up with an answer for you. Link to comment

By and large the RP there tends to be more about hooking up and high school level drama than anything else. You're better off looking through the RP FCs listed here on the site and joining one of them. Best of luck to you! Link to comment
Delilah Scythewood Posted October 20, 2016 Share #4 Posted October 20, 2016 The Quicksand in Ul'dah, the Forgotten Knight in Ishgard, and the Grindstone on Saturday evenings are good places to go to be an RP wallflower! There's also a lot of various tavern nights and inns around that have their own linkshells or groups that can be joined where one can mingle and make friends. Check the Linkshells for anything related that can help nudge ya in the right direction! Friends of Momodi, RP Levelers, ERP NEO, and a few others are good general RP LS's that you can prod at for help with helpful people too! If you need any help or have any questions, feel free to toss me a message Link to comment
Thunderbolt300 Posted October 20, 2016 Share #5 Posted October 20, 2016 Yeah, the official forums are in stark contrast to Moon Guard's. I was a little surprised myself. The bulk of RP activity is here on these forums, I've found. I'm much in the same boat as you are- tackling content is all well and good, but it's RP content generation that keeps me coming back. As far as potential trees to bark up, I'd highly recommend this one if your profile picture is indicative of the character you're aiming to play: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=17424 Beyond that, you're certainly welcome to hit me up! Kasi has reason to show up just about anywhere anytime. She's usually doing a job somewhere for someone. In any case, welcome aboard! Link to comment
