Foreigner Viera possible? Kugane bunny?

Recommended Posts

Question!
This is mainly intended as a question for when the Viera are released.
Just how much lore do we know about them? Their origins?
Would it be possible for one ot have been raised in, say.. Kugane, or no?
Ideas rolling around in my head, that's all.

Short answer: we don't know yet. They were first mentioned and confirmed canon during the Ridorana raid, the BLUFever leaks said they were coming, and hints from Fan Fest seem to confirm. They might come from the new Rak'tika Greatwood area coming in Shadowbringers. We don't know if FF14's interpretation will be more pureblooded like Fran, or Feol viera, or a mix with some ronso for guys.

Personally I'd wait just a little longer, at least until the final Ivalice raid, as a viera NPC and more info might be introduced with it. There's nothing stopping your future toon from having a nomadic lifestyle, or being adopted, and living in an open port like Kugane.

What we know so far:

Mikoto: “Dalmasca has long been known as a melting pot for myriad cultures─where minor races such as the Seeq, the Bangaa, and the Viera might live in relative harmony with Hyur, Elezen, and others.”

Encyclopedia Eorzea II further tells us that Viera make up 5% of the Dalmascan population

Encyclopedia Eorzea II also goes into more detail about the geography of the Kingdom of Dalmasca and lists the Golmore Jungle as a location in Dalmasca Inferior, although it does not mention Viera directly. There's a fairly decent chance that Viera might live there and that we might see them if we visit Lea Monde in 5.0, seeing as how Rabanastre is effectively destroyed.

Encyclopedia Eorzea II - From Nagxia to Yanxia: “Following their victory, the Empire divided the conquered Kingdom of Dalmasca into two regions. The desert south of the Skatay Range was dubbed Dalmasca Superior, with Rabanastre to serve as the seat of the provincial government, whereas the Golmore Jungle and Greylic’s Bend were named Dalmasca Inferior, with Lea Monde as its capital. Together, they would comprise the Diocese of Dalmasca, the Garlean Empire’s foothold in the Far East. Rabanastre became a key staging ground for imperial forces in the campaign, and from there the Empire advanced into Nagxia.”

But that's all we know so far. The third chapter in the Return to Ivalice 24-man raid is hinted to introduce a Viera character, though not confirmed. We will likely find out more then (Jan?). At which point I'll update the above linked Dalmasca post with the new info. Everything else is theorycrafting at this point. We don't know if Viera will have both FF12 and Feol clans, we don't know for sure where they live just yet, and we don't know how closely their culture or society will end up resembling that of their Ivalician counterparts. However, new info will be coming before too long. Please look forward to it! (I don't see why a Viera couldn't come to Kugane though. Dalmasca had a navy and Dalmasca traded with Hingashi during its heyday.)

I've been cautioning everyone I know about their bunny fever...

It's completely possible they will be a beast tribe and not a playable race. Please, for your own potential future disappointment, do not get on the hype train and daydream characters and get emotionally invested in them being a playable race until we know for sure that they will be.

Don't Fallout 76 yourself. Please.

To be honest this just reminds me of pre 3.0 where we had people jumping into rping xaela without any established lore other than appearance. I have some friends who had to very very heavily retcon stuff and in some cases just straight up 86 it and start over because it couldn't be made to work in the actual confines of the lore. I completely expect to get some really unique and unexpected things from the race if we even get them - they could very easily be a NPC race or beast tribe. They do exist in Eorzea but we know next to nothing about them because they're intentionally keeping that info pretty under lock & key right now.

We had way more lore on xaela before 4.0 hit than we have currently on Viera. SB didn't fundamentally change anything. If people had to retcon things, it's mostly because they didn't pay enough attention to the lore in my opinion. We even had already our first lorebook to complement what we knew on Au'ra.

The only thing I've seen happening on my side was some obvious adjustment especially on Dotharl players since the tribe description wasn't mentioning their spiritual side at all.

I ended up having to rework my Dotharl, so I can agree with this. Outside of Dotharl and Oronir to some extent.
I personally haven't seen really any other tribe have to retcon things, but that's me- personally. I can't speak for others.

It sounds pretty killer advice to "not make plans/too specific plans, because you maybe trap yourself into rebuilding your character from ground up because you cannot sleep anymore because your rp character is not lore accurate".

If you are crafty writer, and cannot wait for to start putting together your viera, then knock yourself out BY MAKING PLANS you can easily adjust to the final product because your plans were satisfying but vague in the first place. More general the root idea, more easy it is to adjust.

Hingan viera may be simple idea, but... perfectly general it is not. Just saying, and my prayer to all the brave roleplayers who have come up with some, small, oscure and GUTSY miqo'te tribes, who traveled to Doma few or more than few generations ago... and now they are bonafide Doman miqo'tes, dammit. (I'm preparing to pray for all the vieras, who left Dalmasca and hoppen on boat and came to Hingashi... anything between yesterday and ten generations ago.)

As with Au Ra, I don't think SE is going to add Viera NPCs here and there to retcon them visibly "always having lived in Eorzea or Doma or whatever!". (Though... well, pc can be whatever race and at the beginning of the game ARR you appears from thin air , traveling to the starting city. I don't think it's bad loophole to validate your character living in Eorzea, at least, but as always don't abuse loopholes.) And, in the end, only people who are going to care of your character being lore accurate are the people you are going to rp with. Thinking that way always soothes my mind.

A large part of what I'm talking about is people jumping on RPing au ra before they were even released ingame and before even the tribes were released. Not simply pre 4.0 content - but people jumping onto rping the characters after simply seeing the concept art/a few screenshots from the fanfest 4 years ago. This was before specific tribe info was given out and thus it's in a similar place as the Viera with people jumping onto making characters with no lore basis other than a few stray lorebook II tidbits. That's where the retconning comes from - not from after they were released/simply pre 4.0. I saw people rping them as of a demonic origin or being dravanian related because there wasn't that specific information released yet to players.

Basically yeah as the person above said, making plans that are overly specific is what's going to lead to retconning. Right now this pretty much means a lot of the assumptions being pulled from other games or even assumptions from stuff that isn't clear but we THINK might happen. I think there are ways around this if people really want to do the rp now but I also think that avoiding these assumptions of what the lore is going to be is really necessary for that.

I think there's been a bit of confusion, because you originally said "pre-4.0", at which point Au Ra had been in the game since 3.0's launch and the lorebook expounded upon them more before 4.0 hit. Now, the people who all roleplayed as magically glamoured Au Ra before 3.0 hit, I think that's the group you're specifically referring to, and I agree that they jumped on board a bit prematurely.

Oh I realised my mistake after the fact :< I def meat pre 3.0 when they had yet to be ingame in any way really - given that's what this situation is far more similar to.
