High Concept

The Keeper of Secrets

Lyriel has unearthed secrets, both arcane and social, to draw upon fey magicks and spells that poison the mind and soul. Using the power of secrets, some thought to be long forgotten, Lyriel can bring ruin to his enemies and great favour to his companions.

Trouble

"But he was so beautiful..."

This is the phrase that you can count on hearing when you demand Lyriel explain a blunder. Too often Lyriel becomes smitten by a charming lad and cannot resist the charms of his handsome suitors. Lyriel may have read many books and overheard many conversations, but he has yet to learn one simple secret: sometimes demons take the faces of angels.

Conviction

"Never reveal the truth too clearly"

Lyriel grew up reading books next to his father's card table. Between the pages of encyclopediae Lyriel would watch the strange nuances of the grown-ups' game. Quickly he understood that revealing one's hand was only ever desirable if the revelation was in truth a misdirection. This conviction developed early, and even now Lyriel refrains from ever telling the whole truth. If secrets are the source of his power, he can hardly go around sharing them.

Humble Beginnings

"My beginnings were never humble"

Behind every great wealth is a great crime. Lyriel's family was one of the few that prospered in the years following the great cataclysm of Bahamut and the arrival of the Seventh Umbral era. Lyriel's father, a canny businessman and charismatic cheat, quickly set in motion his plans to exploit his peers. Secret dealings were never far between in the Trinket house, though they were quite hard to uncover.

Follies of Youth

"Too smart for my own good"

Lyriel's precocious nature as a child evolved into cleverness and wit as he matured. However, his agile mind, he would learn, was not always a blessing. Lyriel was intelligent, but not yet wise - a dangerous combination. Even more dangerous when one considers the nearly tyrannical nature of his father.

If only Lyriel were as quick on his feet as he was with his words. Maybe then he could dodge the fists his father threw at him.

First Awakenings

"This text uses a very outdated theory"

Even as a child Lyriel had a fondness for secrets. When other children begged for sweets, Lyriel asked for secrets. Needless to say, he quickly became friends with the maids and servants. When the Umbral era fell upon the world, Lyriel knew that the secrets he knew already would not be sufficiently powerful enough anymore, and so he sought out ancient magicks.

As soon as he could leave his home he could be found scouring razed libraries in hopes of finding the secret to his future.

Mysterious Origins

"A gem of a friend"

Upon mastering the fundamentals of an ancient grimoire he unearthed from the cellar of an eccentric collector of arcane paraphernalia, Lyriel learned the magic of the arcanists. Using the same geometric shapes he used to craft his spells, he summoned forth a carbuncle. This familiar, which he named Aeoxys after the writer of the grimoire, became his first true friend.

Greatest Falling

"If curiosity killed the Miqo'te, the Miqo'te died nobly"

Lyriel is a slave to his curiosity. Once piqued, Lyrieal must indulge in his secret-hungering nature.
