The Howling Chimeras
<Howl> - Mist W12 P16 - Balmung
Who We Are
- We're a varied group of adventurers from all walks of life, from minor Ishgardian nobility to Ala Mhigan refugees, Lalafell to Roegadyn, craftsmen and warriors alike. The first thing that binds us is the need for honest work and steady pay, but it's followed closely by a desire to use what skills we have for good, to improve the lives of fellow Eorzeans and stave off despair wherever and whenever we can. We're no Warriors of Light, no great heroes, but we're here and we're stubborn and we'll be damned if we don't at least try to make a difference.
- We took on the Chimera name in honor of a friend's old company - our way of honoring the dead and helping them get their good name back after a former member dragged it through the mud. We were the Golden Swarm before, but we're none of us too shiny (except for G'latta) and nobody's really that much into bees. Besides, chimeras are much more intimidating.
What We Do
- We'll take most jobs that come our way, though some members may be less choosy than others when it comes to what is and isn't legal. The company as a whole only takes legit work. Company coffers get a ten percent cut of what we make, and there's food, drink, and a safe place to rest up and recuperate in exchange. We've got an airship, so that saves on travel costs too.
A couple of us have a real knack for finding musty old treasure maps, and some of us have got damned good at reading them. We'll take a group out every fortnight or so to do some digging, and most times come back with a tidy sum.
Who We Are - The Players
We're a small group that's grown close over the past few months since the company's founding. We've all played other MMO's before, though not the same ones, and enjoy gameplay just as much as the roleplaying aspects. Some of us don't have English as a first or only language, so we're not sticklers for perfect spelling or grammar - as long as we can understand each other, it's all good.
What We Do - The Players
We're equally interested in RP and just playing the game. Friday nights are company meetings or RP sessions, and we often do Aquapolis runs or work on helping each other through trial/raid content in the Duty Finder on Saturdays. Many of us have limited availability during the week, but will still run leveling randoms or engage in short RP scenes when we have the time. A fair amount of RP happens out of game, over Skype or Discord.
Our Roleplaying Style
For casual RP, we generally prefer to keep things short and sweet, frequently making use of the animated emotes provided in game. For plot-heavy scenes, generally one player will act as Dungeon Master and handle NPCs and combat for us - this is something we all enjoy, and a frequent occurrence during our weekly RP nights. We have our own fairly simple roll system, which we are still improving upon, and optional non-combat stats for other types of DM'd RP.
It's honestly not an issue for us one way or the other. What matters is creating an enjoyable story together. Dragons in disguise, Elezen that are really three Lalafells in a trench coat, secret Garleans, etc - if you play it well, it's all good. The one exception might be roleplaying as existing lore characters, since that would be very difficult to work into our stories. But if you're just an out-of-work Flame General impersonator (the gigs aren't worth an arm), we can work with that.
Because we're a small company, we have a fairly casual structure. Officers are an OOC position only, and each main character has their own unique role in the company, such as Stablemaster, Chief Engineer, or Quartermaster.
Our ranks are as follows:
*Chimera Prowler - Company Leader
*Chimera Growler - Officer
*Chimera Howler - Member
*Chimera Pup - Recruit
Ranks for alts follow the same pattern, though only Howlers and above can have their alts invited to the company. Pups undergo a one-month trial period (from the first Friday of one month to the first Friday of the next) before they can be promoted to Howlers.
Getting In Touch
Send G'latta Elli, Ro Pyke, or Dax Noixledeaux a message in game if you want to hire the Chimeras for an IC job, collaborate on a plot or event, or want to join us (or have us join you) on a trip to the Diadem or Aquapolis.
We are interested in forming (IC) rivalries and (IC or OOC) alliances with other small Free Companies.
We have an IC linkshell "Our Crew" that anyone can join, whether they're a member of our company or not. It's a good way to get involved in our RP!
Rumors & Reputation
*A mercenary Free Company of the same name, with mostly Roegadyn members, was active in Northern Thanalan until just around the time of the Calamity. They were notable for keeping a chimera cub as a mascot. This chimera escaped, grew to a fearsome size, and was put down last year by the Golden Swarm.
*A group of bandits has been operating under the Howling Chimeras name as well, in the same area of Thanalan, but they've only been active for about a year. Aforementioned bandits have been quiet recently, and may have all been wiped out.
*The Howling Chimeras have opened recruitment to replenish their ranks, and they'll take just about anyone. "Why, they've even hired (refugees and thieves/a Garlean deserter/some creepy Black Mage)!"
*The company's leader has been asking around about forming alliances with other free companies, promising a lucrative venture...
