My favorite example: in some thread a while back (I don't remember which specific one) someone brought up the existence of vampires in Eorzea. This was followed by citations of various item descriptions that alluded to numerous common vampire myths (turning into bats, drinking blood etc.) that would be known to Eorzeans. Posters elected to completely ignore all the information (going as far as to say none of it was "real" lore) presented in order to maintain their position that vampires could not possibly exist in Eorzea.

I saw that thread and to be fair, it was never really settled if VAMPIRES existed in Eorzea or just the VAMPIRE MYTH. Two different things.

The only thing I remember from that thread was that there wasn't any real information to indicate there were vampires, but there was plenty of the mythos we know of in the real world that had sort of been mixed around into other things.

Also, totally possible we may see vampires or something that fits the same sort of genre in future quests.

Is what it is on both our parts.

(01-10-2016, 05:09 PM)Momo Wrote: [ -> ]I noticed today, there are lots of active new members around the past few weeks, with lots of questions.  I also noticed those questions are not being answered as well, or with truthful answers as they should be.  There are two different things I will be communicating here: My opinion as well as the basic facts of our "Community".

Many of the most prominent members of the community here, they don't want whats best for their fellow players.  You can see it in the fake throw away comments that they make, you can see it in the way they conduct themselves, you can see it in the way they speak about their characters, but take little to no interest in yours.  Sure, we all speak about our own characters, but you know when we do that, we are meant to be sharing the experience of creation, rather than boasting our characters over and over to others until we grow weary of them at all, and the only people that will RP with them, are either starstruck members who don't care or don't know better, and/or those with egos to match theirs who can stand in relative companionship with a head so big you can barely fit in the room.

I see comments in various linkshells and whatnot complaining about 'RPC celeb whining'  and I typically roll my eyes at it until I see it happening myself. I think there are definitely those that feel a little more....entitled to feel like they lord over the community and I think there are some that are just doing the best with what they've got.

I know a few people who have come to the RPC with hooks, characters and ideas and just get royally ripped apart. I'm one of the most stuck in the mud (lore, etiquette) RPers I know and if I can give these folks a nod then I really don't see what anyone elses issue is. It's at the point now where if a person comes to me with an idea or character I try to hook them up via my own knowledge and connections rather than refer them to the RPC as a source for connections or friends. ESPECIALLY if it's their first rodeo because the last thing I want is to have them come here and get hit in the face with...well. The RPC.

There is some elitism I notice. A sincere lack of effort from longstanding members of the community to venture outside their bubbles and established friend circles. An eagerness to comment, judge and correct and a disinterest in actually assisting or welcoming a new player. And no, padding your FC active player numbers doesn't count.

I can only really condemn this so much though. If it's not broke then why fix it? If you've got a good thing going with your group then why go out of your way to introduce a foreign element? Maybe there just isn't enough time to hit up the posts and ideas. I get it, I really do. Just don't be surprised when 'RPC celeb whining' is how people end up feeling.

I'm not convinced OP is serious, and if so - it's unfair to pass such a harsh and discouraging judgement onto other players. They're not ruining the game by rping, the game is for fun. If rp is what players consider more fun, then that's what they can do. If you don't enjoy rp, don't rp! Let people do what they enjoy! You do you.

Why does this thread need to go there?
Because the purpose of RP and this game is entertainment, and it would be a more genuine and interesting thread in no mods land.
yep, and how many people wouldn't be able to see it?

some of us do not wish to subject ourselves to the shitposting haven that is that place.

The thread also devolved into people calling the OP a troll after a few people insisted that the concept was impossible because, stated as a fact by a few players, there are no vampires. The thread completely started with "how is your character not OP and you should RP it this way but not call yourself a vampire." After bits of lore were posted supporting the mythos people also latched on to talking about how thowe bits were flavor text and thus not to be used.

When I say devolved, it was the typical behavior of deliberately trying to close the thread because people thought it "stupid" and thus they must constantly assert that it is a stupid idea, by reacting in behavior that I find to be immature. Derailment, meme posting, no effort posts.

I would say that while this thread involved some of what I do consider to be unacceptable behaviors, I do not think it is the norm of the overall RPC. It is done by a loud and vocal minority.

I think that by now we've permitted this thread to persist long enough such that many, if not most, of the fundamental concerns have been heard and addressed in at least one fashion or another. Subsequently, I shall be locking this thread forthwith. Topics of this nature, once they reach a certain point, tend to devolve into circular arguments or else passive-aggressive sniping fests that have little to do with the actual subject matter. So we're cutting that off at the pass.

Iterations of this thread are not permitted within NML and users who create such will be reprimanded.

That said, if anyone wishes to pick a salient point or two with which to start a new thread for the sake of a more focused discussion, they are more than welcome to so long as said threads remain within modded sections.

Thank you.

"OP" is shorthand for "original poster", a.k.a. "thread creator".
