Hello, everyone! Please bear with me, as I know very little about FFXIV.

I've played a multitude of MMO's over teh past ten years and have become a very avid roleplayer in those years. I'm now looking for a new MMO to put down my feet in and hopefully join an RP community! I play on the EU continent, timezone GMT+1.

I've tried looking around this website, and cant seem to find more then one EU FC. I am wondering if there are any EU guilds/communities around that a new player could join? Do they exist? Does anyone have any tips where I could go or who I could join as a new player?

What options are there for an EU roleplayer to get into the RP scene?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Hi there! There is a thriving EU community on Balmung and there's definitely more than one EU FC too (I run one and know of several others so Tongue)  Have a look around again, some FC/LSs describe themselves as EU/NA or EU-friendly.

Check out the EU RP directory for a list of players and groups, and the Balmung EU linkshell is a big collection of EU roleplayers also. Hope this helps!

I'm not exactly well versed on the subject of EU timezones being as I'm separated from it by an ocean, but I'll say what I can.

From what I know, there are quite a few European roleplayers in and around the game, but I don't know about any dedicated Free Companies or Linkshells for EU regions. Eventually you will have to come across some people who play the game at the same times you do, regardless of timezones. Edit: Well, there's your answer on that.

Getting into the RP scene when it comes to FFXIV tends to take a little while for lore research and such, but you came to the right place for it. Ask some lore questions and get an idea of who you might want to roleplay, we are generally pretty gentle about story and characters. The Character Workshop is the best place to ask in most cases.

The forum does offer three nice ways to get connected to the RP scene, being the Making Connections subforum, the daily hosted events, and Forum RP.

If there's anything more you need to know, I can try to answer it, but Maril will probably be more accurate on the situation, (especially concerning EU timezones).
First of all... you'll probably still want to transfer onto Balmung. Roleplay on the other realms is very hit-and-miss, and although there are scattered communities on other US data centre worlds, I don't think I've ever seen one based in an EU realm. Therefore, despite being a US server, Balmung is still your best bet for finding other EU roleplayers, because it has the highest concentration of roleplayers in general. You will almost certainly need to pay a transfer fee in order to get characters onto the realm, but you can bring a full load of 8 with 1 transfer fee. Think of it like the roleplay DLC for the game.

That now cleared up, this tumblr is great:

https://balmung-eu.tumblr.com/

because they post a list every week of EU-friendly RP events listed on the calendar this week. There's usually at least one on most days, sometimes barring reset days.

My personal favourites to attend are Matron's Reach open hours on Mondays and EU Fight Club on Thursdays.

Attending these can help you build your contacts list of people who will be around at similar times to you!
Hello again, and thank you all for the wonderful feedback!

So we're a few weeks further now, and partly thanks to the feedback I got here, and partly thanks to a heck of a friend, I went ahead and made a character and transferred her over to Balmung. FFXIV turned out to be a very big game, and it took me some time to learn the basics. I'm having a lot of fun with it, though.

Her name is A'riali Soro, and I'm hoping to play her as a kind of orphaned Miqo'te hunter. Young, simple roots, Gridanian. I'm hoping that with a character that is about as ignorant of wider Eorzea as I am, I can learn as she learns and eventually find my place.

I want to thank everyone here who took the time to give some feedback! Kiliet, thank you especially, that tumblr link was a godsend and I'l try to attend each of the listed events and see how that goes. Will also try and get an invite for the Linkshell.

I hope to see you around the gameworld someday, and if anyone has any further feedback or tips, it's more then welcome!
Welcome! I'm EU also and I'll say, I haven't had much difficulty attending events or encountering RP at any time of the day, especially on weekends. Quite a few events/RP hubs are EU timezone friendly, so I'd take a look at the calendar on Roleplay Events page here on the forum. Enjoy your stay on here!
