Who are you?(IC): "I'm merely a another mind on Hydaelyn on a quest to better myself through the power of knowledge. My studies have resided in conjury, thaumaturgy, and some of the more advanced forbidden arts of both white and black magic... W-without practicing them of course! My training in the Maelstrom has also given me some experience out in the field of duty, as well as some skills with a rapier, though for now I am currently retired and furthering my studies however I can. Aether comes in many shapes and forms, and I intend to learn about each and every one!... Oh... beg pardon... My name is Valic Sunblood. Yes I know... It's not a typical miqo'te name!"


Who are you?(OOC): I'm a newcomer to Balmung, transferred to Siren about a week-ish ago from now. 4-5 Months into FF14, originally trying out a failed RP persona as I had in a thread here once before, then moving onto a treasure hunter persona, now with my move to the unofficial RP server Balmung, I developed a more permanent persona that will develop better as stormblood is released. Ideally Valic is a red mage, but doesn't quite recognize it, he picked up a more unorthodox sword method while enlisted in the maelstrom in his youth after studying the works of aether/magic in several forms. After a few years he retired his sword, taking with him an elite coat as a gift to remember, and wants to better his knowledge/strength. I don't have a wiki page made for him yet but there's more about his parents, why he got into magic, and so on that I'm welcome to explain while IC in the game for conversation :p. Valic is an astute, polite, sexy "scholar" type, the type of male that is intelligent and so into his studies that he is completely oblivious to flirting and advances, as well as neglecting to even feed himself from staying so long in libraries... Which leads me to my next question.


What are you looking for?(OOC): Essentially as the title says. A retainer! Someone who can play the role of a character that helps me in whatever it is I need. Finding books while in my studies, getting me food every so often, bothering me, going out to fetch other RP'ers on subjects of interest(like magitek, arcanima users, other scholars, and etc things that are interesting enough to use aether in some way). Someone who will stay in contact via "linkpearl" (pm's) when out in the field hunting for something, fetching an item, or going about their business and etc. This would be long term RP and I would love to see something develop that stays canon. It also would fit Valic's personality as he's quiet and to himself, to have someone who is a bit outgoing to help Valic meet people of interest/intelligence to converse with. You would basically be Valic's "Tataru" only more active and involved in RP both with and without Valic. To be Valic's Wingman/woman and actively help, swoon(if applicable lol), and do battle with him in duties(possibly working on a duty RP thing to a degree too, something about contracts, will develop when stormblood comes).

What qualifies to be your retainer?(OOC): I'm pretty open minded to anything but below I've put some preferences and ideas so you can see what you could be looking forward to.

Race: Any (Preferably all but Roegydan, and male Miqo'te... the latter due to plot reasons in Valic's background/birth/etc).
Gender: Any (Depends on the romance area if applies)
Personality: I'm up in the air about this one, either between having the stereotype of someone who's trying their hardest just to have me notice them(yes senpai), or someone who's outright lazy and screws up their duties all the time for witty banter. However I'm completely open to anything here as far as personality goes.
Romance: I'ma leave this as optional, Valic is a straight male and is already very oblivious even when women are openly swooning/flirting with him in public. The only case where I could see romance develop would either be over a far stretch of time spent trying to impress him, or someone of the same caliber of knowledge-seeking as him. Someone who levels to his intelligence and is just as inspired by the inner workings of aether as he is. With that said, it's not a must, but it's welcome to a degree.
Age: Valic's about 28-29 years old I would say... 10 years growing up at an orphanage, 10 or so doing studies in areas of conjury/whitemagic/thaumaturgy/blackmagic, about 5-6 years of Maelstrom Military service and a couple years of retirement from it to continue his research. With that said, I would hope for someone of younger age that's open to learning or barely below his own age to be on the same depth of knowledge to a degree to share insight with.
Class/Job: Any so long as it's not OP primal nonsense or against lore.

Personal question: "Something I'd want to ask anyone else too... How do you feel about the idea of being a hired retainer, being beckoned at call(within RP reason of course), and how do you view this as a future for your char in relation to Valic for long term RP as well as fulfilling those goals?"

Some pluses: Being an Au ra or seeking a master or to become an apprentice in studying magic is more than welcome. An excuse to go to the eastern lands more often and of course the enjoyment of teaching someone how to manipulate or use aether different ways is something I'd adore.

If he really is interested in more forbidden subjects like black magic I bet he'd get along with A'zaza. She recently became a black mage herself and is it IC (without anyone except her FC knowing, of course).

Aren't black mages only available to the warrior of light though? Or otherwise illegal to be one and etc? As much as I'd like that, I feel it'd be shady-ish :S

Sorry lol, don't quote me entirely on that, I just know about the calamity between white and black mages that broke out had caused both to kinda stop using their areas of magic. Since killing Hydaelyn or themselves was kinda bad, they outlawed the use of black magic and etc, and limited white magic to the Padjali(and their trustees). As far as existing white/black mages though... Idk, maybe there's some in hiding, or people reduced their black mages to just being really good thaumaturges. I don't own a lore book or have too much in depth knowledge about their existence in Eorzea's present time, but Valic still studies culture and history that's happened in the past about it all.

Just dropping in quickly - I wrote this post a little while ago on how obscure the various soul crystals are - here's what I put for BLM:

Tier 5: Illegal - those in possession without permission from the authorities will be marked for death
Region: Mhach
Era: Fifth Astral Era
Discipline: Black Magic
How to obtain: Mhachi ruins, or get lucky and loot one from a corpse. If your character is high-ranking law enforcement - especially Order of Nald’thal - it’s possible they could come into contact with one via confiscated contraband.
Challenges: Black magic is highly illegal and easily detected, due to the method which it uses to draw aether for a spell. It’s also lethal when attempted without a soul crystal. Because of this last fact, soul crystals are in high demand by outlaws with a lust for power, so those who take the black must be prepared to not only live outside the law, but also to defend themselves from all sorts.

I look forward to seeing you do red mage and samurai, that's the one bit I'm debating on advancing because I'm unsure of just how they're going to present the red mage. Also I assume without the soul crystal, performing specifically black magic would incinerate your soul iirc?

OH!!!! That was you too!!!? I saw you say hi earlier that day in my party chat when I checked. I wrote down the name trying to contact you next time you got online. Heh, cartographer, that was one of the things I wanted to be apart of my treasure hunter persona back on Siren when Iw as still figuring out his occupation/persona/etc. I just couldn't find a way to make it work personally ><, so that's cool to find out too. After reading this and your wiki, I just have a couple questions.

1. Does that mean you're open to all forms of RP?
2. Being mute, how would you cope for things like communication through linkpearl?
3. I noticed under dislikes was "-Seeing any abuse towards any creature."... does that include monsters and etc in duties and open world?
4. Something I'd want to ask anyone else too... How do you feel about the idea of being a hired retainer, being beckoned at call(within RP reason of course), and how do you view this as a future for your char in relation to Valic for long term RP as well as fulfilling those goals?

I see that you've already garnered a fair bit of interest for this, but I figured I'd write up an application anyway! It seems like it could make for a really interesting, long-term roleplay, which is something I'm always looking for. 

RP style: I almost exclusively roleplay in third-person, paragraph style, but I don't mind if my partner does not match me in this, so long as they don't mind me not matching them. 

Name: Rhysa Verkoh
Race: Keeper Miqo'te
Age: 20
Gender: Female

Interests: She's interested in trying new things. This includes learning about magic, exploring, fighting, and most other fields of interest. 

Hobbies: Most of her time is spent exploring the area she's wandered into, but she can occasionally be found reading or singing.

Profession(s): Rhysa is currently unemployed, unfortunately for her. 

Personality: While a quiet individual by nature, she can easily overwhelm many with her excessive questions about anything new she's discovered. Very unworldly, she can occasionally be rather naive, though is not without the skills to help get her out of the trouble she so often finds herself in. 

Goals: Her primary goal is to prove to herself that she doesn't need to live within the confines of her family's territory to live a successful life. Otherwise, she is interested in learning more about the various settlements around Eorzea. 

Background/Story: Born into a small tribe of Keepers located in the Black Shroud, Rhysa spent her life curious about the surrounding areas and being constantly reprimanded for such interest. This eventually led to her decision to leave her family when she came of age, parting on sour terms with most of her tribe members. 

As of late, she has stuck to wandering and learning about Gridania, whilst steering clear of her old home when she can.

OOC: Rhysa is a brand new character, and is very low-level, so that is something that should probably be taken into consideration, if it's something that might inhibit the RP.

No worries, I'm actually in the middle of a weird limbo with my subscription. So I'm just currently taking all applications and reviewing which would be the most fit for when I re-sub lol. So I'm glad you entered regardless <3, only a couple entries so far anyway :p. Just a couple questions for you then~

1. What class/weapons/etc is she planning on taking up to defend herself, or does she have a particular set of skills (or plan to) in any crafts? Keep in mind I don't by any means require any specific classes or crafts to actually be leveled and for RP we can always make up where you obtain something, like say Valic asked you to fetch some grapes(Valic loves to turn these into grapes using fire magic from time to time XP), you could either go to the market to purchase them, ask people IC to get some, or make them yourself, in the end, you don't physically have to have them or even prove you made them, it's RP afterall :p Most of it is up to your imagination.

I just resubbed today! Excited to get back playing again. >u<

1. She's proficient with a bow, but she's very interested in learning other combat styles. This applies to all that would be accessible to her, really. 

2. Here is a super quick screenshot. One day I'll have better ones, but this'll do the job.  


3. I certainly have no problems acting the part of a retainer, or else I'd be in the wrong place, wouldn't I? 

I think the entire of having a long-term job for her would be a great learning opportunity for her and a great character building exercise for me! She could definitely use some stability, as well as a more mature, experienced figure in her life, especially one who has some answers for the various questions she is always asking. As for the actual relationship, I'd be open to both platonic and romantic relationships, depending on how they end up interacting in-game. c:

Very good answers :p Also keep in mind you're 1 of only 2 choices atm XD. I'm still debating even now. I also asked that third thing to the Sulann too, figured it'd be fair lol. That applies to anyone here after too.

I'm currently at the end of my sub, like a couple days left >~>; not sure how soon I'll be able to re-sub but hopefully soon. Overall very nice, I view a few good concepts about this solely because of Valic's race/heritage, if things developed romantically, it'd be like a classic romeo and juliet thing but also mirror'ing a bit of Valic's racial history regarding it(stuff I'd have to explain in game, and only trust certain ears with :p). She's definitely a cutie ofc too lol. There's also that potential for a more refined miqo'te to communicate with a more tribal based one(she left the tribe of course but she'd still have more of her instincts about her than Valic certainly ever has lol).

It'll prolly be here in this thread when I end up changing the now added sign from "OPEN" to "CLOSED" and I'll say who I chose I guess *shrug*. Also forgot to mention(added in reputation too but just in case) brownie points to you hinting at Valic being a mature figure. I fantasia'd him from his previous persona to look more masculine/older/refined. XD Does me proud to see I did right... But it was beneficial to have pics of my char b4 just so he could pose as him about 7-9 years ago when he was still "in the maelstrom". This was after I created his new persona of course but his look was from his old persona lol.
