Still locked out of Gilgamesh and Balmung character creation. Have made characters on Faerie, Siren, Midgardsormr, Adamantoise, Coeurl, Behemoth, Goblin, Ultros, Cactuar, and Lamia over the past week, since THOSE would be full and I'd have to hope another server wasn't. Those are all saying full now as well. Not a single US/EU server is allowing creation as I look, not one. Even if I wanted to keep trying, I keep getting lobby errors and booted away.

I withhold judgement until the promised Wednesday server updates, but I've had plenty of free time as is to read or watch a movie. I'm just a little despondent over things at the moment.

[Affected Service]
FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn

This should mean that Wed. morning we will see the new servers and the problem will hopefully be fixed.
Hopefully we'll all be able to look back at the launch issues and laugh soon enough...assuming they're alleviated for the majority of players on Wednesday. I'll be out on a trip most of Wednesday though so I probably won't get to play properly until Thursday. I'm very eager to be able to create another character on Balmung, so I hope the character creation process won't be locked.
Thus my last statement about holding out for Wednesday. Wink It's still a "hopefully" though, and it still doesn't make tonight, or all the past week, feel any better sadly.
People are just assuming everything will be solved by Wednesday lol. I honestly thing these issues will be ongoing for at least another few weeks. After the first month a chunk of players always drop a new MMO so that will mean things get easier for people who want to play. Until then i expect the same problems.
I don't think anyone believes everything will be magically solved Wednesday, but it's a scheduled fix, and a little optimism that things will at least be semi-functional after that isn't that bad a thing to look to.
I've yet to play an MMO that didn't have issues that lingered for a few months after the initial launch. So long as those issues don't remain dire for weeks on end and there's just the occassional problem to deal with I'll be very understand and content.

GW2 and WoW are both due to have new content patches out rather soon so I imagine the strain on FFXIV's servers will subside a bit when the infamous content locusts and MMO hoppers rush to either game.

I'd also say that not being able to log into the game at all for days (I've managed to log in a grand total of twice since early access and was only able to play in phase 4 for the last half of the second day) is pretty serious. It's certainly one of if not the worst issue I've seen in an MMO launch. Queues I can deal with. Occasional bugs I can deal with. Something like this, that keeps you from playing at all? Yeah, no.

Fingers crossed that these server upgrades work.
Crashed during the first 8 man boss fight... God, I feel horrible. Team was doing pretty decent and then my game decided to crash. Of course, can't get back in a timely manner. Bleh ><
haha feel ya, Lren.
Sat in the '1017 dance' for an hour, finally get in... for mayyyyybe 5 min... then kicked again.

I swear... I'll never get my dungeons unlocked or quests done. Sad

Yeah, this is definitely one of the worst launches I've ever experienced.

I mean, sure, we don't have an abundance of bugs, and once you log in the game generally works, but how many paying customers have been completely unable to use the product they paid for since launch?" That reflects really poorly on Square Enix as a company. The free 7 days extra will hopefully mitigate some of that, but they'll never really live this down (just like Blizzard never really lived down WoW's launch or Funcom never really lived down Anarchy Online's launch). People will continue to play, but some will just outright quit instead of wait for things to get better, and there are always those players who never forget.

The worst part is how players are encouraged to essentially be assholes and stay logged in just so they can avoid the pain of being locked out of the game. The last two days I just said "fuck it" and joined that crowd in staying logged in overnight just so I could avoid playing with Error 1017 ever again.

Noooo! You allowed the darkness to engulf your heart!

I've had a bit of trouble logging in, but it has not been horrible as I just avoid peak hours. Log in before 10am pst or after 6pm pst. Because you are literally not getting in anytime during those hours. Usually it takes me 10mins to get in, on the weekends it took me 20-30mins to get in. I work and go to school during the peak hours and on my days off I just run errands during those hours as well. It's bad, but there are definitely ways to work around it, well if you live on the west coast as I am sure the hours are much more complicated on the east.

I think I felt them literally open up the servers at 6:50pm pst yesterday. I logged in at that time, and then immediately saw four people from my FC log in, back to back, and then 3 or 4 people from the OOC RP Dungeon LS I am in all said they just got in as well. So I would probably jot down that time and see how that works out with your schedule.

Since official launch after they fixed the 90k errors and such I have only lost connection once the entire time. And I have been squeezing about 4hours of play time in a day. I just hope they offer free character transfers for a limited time as to get people from the current servers to move over to the new servers.

The past couple days, I've been waking up at around 8am CST (that's 6am PST) and trying for at least an hour to log in. All I've gotten for my efforts are a slew of 1017s, so... yea, even getting up early, you're more likely than not not gonna get in.
My concern at this point is that the fix tomorrow will be a batch of new worlds to play on and not the unlocking of the already full worlds, this does not effect me directly I count myself lucky I already have a character on Balmung but I feel for all of those who want to join Gilgamesh or Balmung and cannot.

Here is hoping everything gets fixed but honestly I would settle for a halfway decent fix that lets everyone play.

Yeah, it isn't such an easy solution as just waking up early. I usually log on about 9-10AM here - In the UK, mind, I have no idea how early that is where you are though - And I still get a queue time.

Two or three hours later and you're being hit with 1017s. I never really had these issues before Monday, though - I only struggled to get past the 1017 errors if I logged on after 7pm, and I assume just about everyone is awake at that point, so...

If they're not letting more people in to the server, and the server wasn't this busy (to my knowledge) over the weekend, does that mean they're shrivelling up or something? Or are we just dealing with more AFKers by this point?

Well, at the very least we can just sit and hope for the best. I wouldn't mind a more stable Coerthas where I can actually hit the dragon instead of watching my chocobo peck at invisible dragon butt.
And then a FATE spawns on my face and I get crushed by an invisible Cyclops.
...And following this, a sliding chocobo train swoops in to save the day!

Yeah...That's kind of a minor issue and probably on my end, but I'm allowed to rant here, right?

I really feel bad for the people who can't get on to the server they want to - I know that feeling of isolation despite being in an MMO. It'd be a huge boot to the face if they have to actually pay to transfer to the server they wanted to play on in the first place, as well, so I do hope they offer free transfers once people jump ship and decide they don't actually enjoy FFXIV as much as they'd hoped.
