Siben Wrote:Clipping in the context of rendering graphics and clipping in terms of gameplay are two completely different usages of the word.
Clipping in terms of gameplay is actually referring to a lack of proper or disabled collision detection that allows players to reach areas of the game that should be inaccessible or to access areas out of their proper order.
That 'clipping' is derived from the old "no-clip" codes that id Software put into the old Doom games and the like.
I don't mean to sound smug, but I -have- played video games for 20-some years. I would hope I know what defines 'clipping'. Wink

Thank you for clearing that up for me. That was all I was looking for, is clarificatin as to what was being referenced when the term "clipping" was used in that context. Because, the "clipping" that I am familiar with is something totally different.

Tadir Wrote:You may have the degree, but so do I. My degree is in 3d animation. I also work for a video game company, just so you know. I've been doing 3d animation for 14 years now.
*shrug* I do know what I'm talking about.
I think you're mainly talking about occlusion.
I also want jumping in the game. It's not a deal breaker for me, but I want it.
[Edit: just to clarify, clipping, in it's technical sense, is what Loc was saying. It's just not how the term is generally used. I think I came across as a bit of an ass there. I apologize.]

Oh no. I was not, by any means, trying to insinuate that you didn't know what you were talking about. I suppose I could have worded my response a bit better, in that regard. I was merely stating that clipping -is- a system to keep down resources. Admittedly, the context that is being taken in this discussion is a reference that I'm unfamiliar with. Learn something new everyday, I guess! XD

But, no. I was not trying to insult your intelligence at all. Sorry if it came off that way.

I guess, "clipping" is one of those terms that has several different meanings. "Clipping" in sound recording is when the frequencies of the recorded sounds peak the 0 db threshold, for example.

Aveline Wrote:I agree with this. Jumping would be nice of them to include, to add to player agency and all that, but it seems like whenever someone says "You know what would be nice? Jumping." People jump (hahaha I am so clever) all over them. To me it's like if someone said to their mom, "You know what would be nice? If you did your hair long instead of short." and a bystander replied, "You don't like her hair? GET A NEW MOM!"
The ridiculousness of the analogy here is how ludicrous I feel people are being when they say things like, "If you want jumping so badly, go play something else." Everyone is allowed to still love a game and be critical of it. We critique because we care. There are of course, PLENTY of things wrong with this game that deserve to be thrashed to pieces by the press. Jumping is primarily a cosmetic preference by some, but it unfortunately it's the first thing to get thrown out there for pointless, circular debate. :/

I could not have said this better myself. I especially liked the Mom analogy. XD! And yes, I do wish that one of the more relevant issues were picked out for debate.
Pic related.

Couldn't help myself. After I made my first entry that basically started the ball rolling on this issue, I saw others had already stepped in on both sides and figured I'd sit back with some popcorn. :joker:
Newflash!

In response to popular demand, SE have decided to implement a jump mechanic - but only for characters created using darker skintones.

Because white Elezen can't jump.
*Forehead smack*
As long as this discussion has been going, nobody had made that lame-ass joke.

It had to be done.
Satisiun...

That comic was...EPIC!

Pure win.

(Hijack over, return to your regularly scheduled madness.)

Always nice to meet a fan ;P <3

Also, I nominate Satisiun for "best use of an actually relevant image macro"
Second.

Oh sure, I can feel the love from here. Tongue Here, hold still while I fill this water balloon.
Well sadly the game is out looks pretty and it’s not different from the beta, what a bummer I was hoping this game would be good. But no you have to live off guild leve’s for your quests or wander killings. And have fun hunting down armor or weapons.
Ok, my impressions.

First off this is my first time playing the ff mmo series. Luckily i came to play it with freinds from aion that had played ffxi, b/c the learning curve is just to much at first*. I say at first beacuse once I slammed my keyboard down and went to get a cup of coffee i figured it out mostly on my own by just playing with it.

I have never felt so lost or so gratified when i figured out how to walk talk and how to fight. Learning crafting was and still is a nightmare but every success bolsters my resolve. The fundemental difference that I see in ff that is different than most is that they drop you into the game and leve you. No tutorial, no help, which is easily nerdrage induceing.

My graphic arnt all hat great and its still 100X prettier than aion or anything else out.

The combat system is in no way boreing, let me use my rank 5 pugalist as an example. Fighting a marrot i have to heav strike to do dmg, then i have to fast strike to and an ev bonus, do that to get my tp to use cucusion blow which lowers the mobs acc, this triggers me to evade which for 250 tp i can use haymaker. My point is that its not just 11121111213111 i have to moniter my health, mana, and tp while chaining together attacks and watching my placement.

Gathering, while slow and random at first, picks up when you learn to use your locater abilitys and u learn the minigames.

Im not sure where people are comeing with the mouse being slow, i use my mouse just fine its not slow theres no drag or anyhting for me like im hearing others complain about.

My biggest annoyence is that the interface seems slow to transition, and that just be me lagging. that and all the kill stealing im half tempted to mpk but id rather not sullie my name b4 the official release..

It's not much of an issue anymore now that Hardware Mouse has been activated.
Back in beta, it really -was- slow, and the best way to play then was completely with the keyboard.

That's not really a good way to get into RP though.
Don't expect others to initiate contact, take the initiative yourself.

Once your leves are done there's plenty of material gathering and crafting to be done.
