^ I'm not sure how many times I have to state this, but I'll do it till someone acknowledges I'm saying it.

The plan is not to do what people are doing in Ul'dah, only tiny one-offs and small non-reaching plotlines to get people into the city Roleplaying until they are no longer necessary and people just naturally happen to go there on their own.

One, you have a plan?! Smile

Two, this exactly, and I entirely support that approach (for all that my support matters to anyone).

I very much acknowledge what you're saying and agree wholeheartedly and give you a virtual pat on the back and shoulder. I was simply adding in my two cents and agreeing with the wiz as I'm a little more than frustrated with the situation that the Ul'dah RP has put me, my closest RP friends, and even my FC into.

And once again, I agree one million times over with the wiz's latest post in this thread regarding said plot.
Yay acknowledgement.

I'll keep saying it over and over again to get rid of any fears, I'm just hoping people don't auto-assume we're doing what they are in Ul'dah. We just need something to gather those that do rp in Limsa more regular - like a treasure hunt or a dance or a <insert something light here> just to help get people in the habit of actually looking for RP in Limsa (Which, even though people rp there, not many are in the habit of checking there for Socializing)

Can you PM me your problems with Ul'dah? I'd like to hear it to avoid the pitfalls.

I agree. I would split the discussion about city-wide rp away from this thread as this really is supposed to be a Limsa resource and brainstorming thread. Smile
Hi guys! Look, look! A ball!

And now that I have your attention!

Let's play cards!

Andralyn is a bit of a gambler and she needs a place to hunker down for some Hydaelyn Hold 'em!  The way we've played in the past is to use http://roll20.net/ to create a room and deal out cards then kinda flip back and forth to RP the bets and such. It's a bit "gah" because it takes you out of the game just a bit, but still enjoyable, I think. ^_^

Would anyone be interested in joining in on something like this? Is there an event like this already established in Limsa? If there's not, does someone have a house they're willing to open for a night of gambling...I promise Andralyn will leave the 'companions' at home. Tongue

Now no no no no.....she's supposed to bring the companions, silly! Wink

Haha!

I'd be down for it though it gets hard not being on a PC. I always have a tough time with roll business. But this would be fun. Hey if people can rp their people "rp'ing" in the game then why not cards?

:O Yes, please
I think, if you all are interested, that having a thread in rp discussion specifically to talk opinion about city-wide rp wouldn't be a bad idea; that way anyone who wants to comment on things but also doesn't want to interrupt the thread would be able to; I can be an opinionated jackdaw so I certainly understand the desire to discuss opinions. (I don't consider your post an intrusion at all, Kahn'a -- you saw something you wanted to clarify and respond to in a respectful manner. Nothing wrong with that) I can start a new thread or someone else can.

So first order of business -- collecting places to hang out and rp (which, imo, establishing some low-key gambling rp in that area is a wonderful and easy way for some characters to be able to drop in and get rp while being able to leave whenever they wanted to!)

Places mentioned:

The Missing Member
The Bismarck
The Drowning Wench
Rum N Rumble
Anchor Yard
Aftcastle

I think, for the time being, that maybe we should start in the city and then splinter off and start encouraging rp in the Mist area. (I am dying to go into the Rum n Rumble, haha)

The Bismarck, as Ruru said, is tied to a guild and is a little on the upper crust side.

The Anchor Yard is a bit out of the way.

I think for choices to vote on, that the Missing Member, Wench and Aftcastle are our best bets.

Did anyone want to add another suggestion, or shall I go ahead and put up a vote with those three?

As an aside, what Aerghwab said about the tensions between old way and new is something that I, embarrassingly enough, haven't put much thought into. But he's totally right -- that does give Limsa its own flair (Besides pirates, arrr), and is something to definitely explore more through rp. Smile

I split the posts in this thread on that topic off into a new thread, and in doing so screwed up one of my own posts. Blush Such is the price you pay when using the thread Cuisinart; sometimes you cut off your own fingers. If I missed anything that's part of the context, let me know and I'll try again, and this time hopefully not lose a hand. Tongue

What about the Astralicia? I'm not sure it's exactly the best setting for tavern RP (a ship themed tavern?), but it's a possible option, as is Fisherman's Bottom (though I know Gus and his crew use that a fair bit).
Sounds good.

And apparently Shayrei wishes for me to play the part of dealer again... >.>

As a side note... pirates never said "Arr!" and "Shiver me timbers!" or any of that other crap. That was all made up speech from Treasure Island. Tongue

EDIT: And while I understand and appreciate the desire to split the thread as you have, the points mentioned were pertinent to this thread as well. You guys are trying to establish a better RP community in Limsa. To do so, you need to hear opinions on what to do or what not to do. City-wide RP, as it's been labeled, is one of those things that several have asked not to do and they gave their reasons to back it.
It's not in the city, but when the Limsa community is big enough to start bleeding out into the La Noscea areas a bit more frequently, I think Camp Bronze Lake would be a good place for another potential hotspot down the road. It's typically not too populated whenever I pass by it and it has a tavern and hot springs.

Costa del Sol also has a bar, but I feel like it would best be used as a vacation or beach party spot instead of a general hotspot.

They are, yeah, and there was also some other relevant information in them, too. That's why I said I screwed up one of my own posts, since it wasn't until after I split the thread that I realized I'd eliminated my comments on two different RP concepts in addition to the city-wide RP stuff.

So... yeah. That's totally on me. Sad I can't always make the right calls (or even particularly good ones).

Ehehehe, whenever I use the word 'arr', in my head I'm referencing The Longest Journey and her "I look like a real pirate" (or was it sailor? It was a long time ago) message, which I would hence repeat endlessly to my boyfriend because of how silly it was. .... just roll with it.

I had totally forgotten about the Astralicia, but that is also a really great location, Fisherman's Bottom too.

I'll put the poll up in an hour or two to give people the chance to offer more suggestions. Then I'll likely do another poll if there are very few votes to help narrow it down and stuff.

edit - I totally agree, Miza. There are some fantastic rp places outside Limsa to eventually branch out to. Heck, if we roll forward with the treasure hunt (and it's looking like that's the most popular option), then we might even base a leg of it out of one of those areas.
My FC has started playing IC poker using the site pokerrpg.com You can set the table to give you a long time for your turn, so you can RP your turn/conversation without worrying about the clock ticking. Just a suggestion for people wanting to IC gamble.

I've actually always liked the whole RP gambling thing. I want to look into other forms that we can flesh out. It'd be fun to have a little casino to hang out and gamble. (Totally a Limsa flair to me)
