There are animated emotes, but no /e or /em style emotes (which isn't too bad for a lot of people, it seems). The way that animated emotes come about are a little odd, because they become available as you level up and play the game for some reason, I'm not sure why.

The strange thing about them though is that in addition to /slash commands, emotes can also be triggered naturally through dialogue. It's a little awkward at first, but apparently you can change the words that trigger them in order to make them seem more natural. So for example, by default, if you type something like "I'm not going to do that," or "No, I haven't seen him," into your chat bar, your character will do a /no emote as they speak.

It's got the potential to be pretty cool and smooth, though it'll probably require a lot of individual tweaking in order for people to get it to line up with the way that they usually type.

Been watching this game, and liked how it looked, but most of what I hear is that it is heavily weighted towards pvp, which means I want nothing to do with that. When I want pvp, I never look to an mmo. We already have plenty of pretty games for that, and BD just doesn't seem to be catering to the sort of audience I tend to want to be in.

Wish it were otherwise. It looks great.

WHAT?! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! THE NAME OF THE GAME IS BLACK DESERT NOT BLACK TUNDRA!

AND THE DESERTS THAT ARE IN THE GAME AREN'T EVEN BLACK! THEY'RE JUST NORMAL DESERTS!

THIS IS FALSE ADVERTISING OF THE WORST KIND!

I wouldn't say it's weighted towards PvP, but open-world PvP is a thing that happens when you reach level 50 or so. There are PvP activities that happen between guilds, but the only thing that it really seems your forced to do PvP-wise is just the standard "people can kill you in the open world" thing.

To be fair though that is a thing that a lot of people aren't interested in. I'm not too sold on it myself, but I'm probably going to tough it out for the rest of the game anyway.

Haha, speaking of... Why is it called Black Desert in the first place?

According to lore, there was a civilization before those that are currently around that used a material that people now call "Black Stones" as a power-source. There's a bunch of them in ruins in a stretch of desert claimed by another country, so one country that wants to lay claim to the region started calling it the Black Desert. They went to war with the country that controls it, sandwiching and practically annexing several other countries in-between in order to get to it. If I remember right, the war was eventually fought to a stand-still, and both sides retracted before trying to acquire more stones through other means.

Apparently, the other country in the war calls it the Red Desert, after how many of them died defending it.

As a confirmed lord and high priest of customization sliders, I was absolutely enthralled by the level of detail available in character creation. It's on par with a next gen Perfect World.

Problem is the rest of the game.

Gender-locked classes. Currently, classes that should easily be open are locked. To make matters worse, MOST of the available classes are locked to Female. There are two male locked classes and a Giant, which is barely human. There are two non-locked classes.

Also, while I like not having to roll Holy Trinity heal/dps/tank, I do not like the idea that this is a Potion game. PVP is "who can avoid the zerg". There aren't really any dungeons to speak of, nor do I see where this is going.

Like the other releases of BD, this is a pile of shit wrapped in a pretty package.

Yeah, I'm no fan of that either. In Blade and Soul, the classes are only race-specific, but it's still a bother. I hate it even more when they are gender specific. :/

Blade and soul is looking better so far. My issue is that it looks like a fetish game. One of those 18+ MMOS they advertise when you google too much porn.
