Fresh meat here! New and looking to RP. - Emberhair - 05-20-2015 Hi guys, Ember here. Not new to FFXIV at all but definitely new to roleplaying on it. Currently on Moogle and planning to move to Balmung. I have experience roleplaying on an MMORPG as I used to do it on LOTRO (The lord of the rings online). Anyone have any tips on how to get started?  Just to clarify, so far i've done nothing but sign up to the forums haha xD RE: Fresh meat here! New and looking to RP. - Alothia - 05-20-2015 I'd say take a look at some of the guides in the Welcome forum. They should be stickied at the top. Then, figure out a little bit about your character. Basic personality, some interesting tidbits. Then you can put feelers out there and see if any of the linkshells/free companies strike your fancy. Try and set up some small RP interactions and then jump in! Hope to see you around Balmung when you transfer! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! We're a generally helpful bunch! RE: Fresh meat here! New and looking to RP. - Maril - 05-20-2015 Welcome! Check out The European Directory - It may be useful for getting some contacts when you land on Balmung RE: Fresh meat here! New and looking to RP. - Emberhair - 05-20-2015 Thanks for the welcomes and the tips, i'll do just that. I already have a pretty unique (I hope!) character in mind so i'll try brainstorming in my lunch break at work  Do lots of users here use the RP wiki as well? I'm currently addicted at looking at people's RP character profiles xD RE: Fresh meat here! It's a great way to save information about your character and you can easily link it to people when it comes to descriptions and so on. RE: Fresh meat here! New and looking to RP. - Alothia - 05-20-2015 Yeah, there's a contingent of us that use it, but not everyone does. It's a nice resource if you want to put the time into it though! Seemed a lot more based in good story-telling and genuine love for the world and its lore, and a lot less "look how cool I am". That was a great community (for the most-part), but the game itself couldn't hold my interest. If you're anything like the other great RPers I met in LOTRO, we'll get along really well. Welcome to the RPC! Feel free to shoot ideas at me if you're struggling with a character idea if you want, or you can just do some walk-up RP any time if you don't want to bounce ideas off a stranger. I won't be offended. I'd love to RP with you though. RE: Fresh meat here! You've definitely hit the nail on the head there, man. LOTROs community was by far the best i have ever seen in an MMO, RP or not. So friendly. Its because the game was all about lore, exploring and the adventure and it placed such little emphasis on loot. Its the perfect RP mmorpg really. I played lotro for agggggges. By far my fav mmo to date but the population has all but disappeared. My character on that was an old loremaster from Harad. So he had wrinkles, grey hair, black skin and spoke with a thick haradrim accent. Its going to be weird to now play a 19 year old, ginger haired cat man but hey, im nothing if not open to RP diversity xD When i get on to Balmung i'll look you up man. That ok? I'll even buy you a drink at the tavern in Ul Dah RE: Fresh meat here! New and looking to RP. - Faye - 05-21-2015 Hello there, welcome! I hope you can sneak onto Balmung soon! RE: Fresh meat here! I've seen your face around and about this forum already. My spider sense is telling me your a big cheese around here. Correct me if i'm wrong  Will be moving to Balmung very soon so hope to see you there! RE: Fresh meat here! New and looking to RP. - Sounsyy - 05-21-2015 Welcome to the RPC! Lemme know if you have any lore questions or just post them up on the forum and they'll get answered! RE: Fresh meat here! New and looking to RP. - Rhela Awandih - 05-21-2015 Heyoo! For starters.. welcome to the RPC! Hope you enjoy yourself! A tip..? Try to spread out from the typical Quicksand roleplay when you get to Balmung and maybe join an RP LS? Finding people out and about is kinda rare when you compare it to the QS tavern RP, so a good linkshell would help. Look me up when you get to the server (my kitty's name is the same as my username ) and I can hook you up with one and help with whatever you need! RE: Fresh meat here! I'm just now getting back into the community after a long hiatus, so I'd love to make some new friends. On LOTRO, I had a dwarf champion from the Iron Hills. I loved that character but, like you said, the population disappeared, plus the mechanics got a bit dated for me and I wasn't a fan of everything cool-looking coming from micro-transactions. I've always been a big Tolkien fan so that world was perfect for me to RP in, though. I had a great time while I was there. Totally agree about how that game focused on lore, exploration, and adventure above all else. That's the kind of RP I'd like to bring to the forefront of FFXIV. It's a different beast altogether and there's a wide variety of RPers in this community, but a good deal feel the way I do about that kind of stuff. I mean, what's the point of RP if you're just comparing clothing, right? Anyways, I don't mean to ramble on your Welcome thread. Hit me up when you get to Balmung. My name on that server is Uther Skystrider. I'm always up for some RP. |
