Hi, I am a new RP'er coming from Elder Scrolls Online. I Thought it might be a good idea to come ask the community about my RP ideas. Thanks for your help with Eorzean lore! Â

I was thinking of role playing the son of a Ala Mhigan Noble who escaped from Ala Mhigo before the violence started. The idea was to have him work to Liberate Ala Mhigo with the help of Ul'Dah. (which im guessing won't ever happen in the game) I was wondering, does anyone know of any specific reasons this is a bad Idea? Or even ideas on how to make this more interesting?

Well, first thing's first, Ul'dah is ruled by the Sultana, on paper at least. The Monetarist faction holds enough power to keep her in check.

Secondly, I do not believe the Sultana has the authority to make any promises regarding foreign territory such as Ala Mhigo.

That said, there is no reason you could start a Free Company revolving around your character as an Ala Mhigan Noble, actively aiming to help liberate Ala Mhigo, with intent to establish himself as a powerful figure within its system of government as a result of your actions/contributions during the liberation. The aid provided could be from any number of sources from manpower (you could hire adventurers/retainers to your Free Company), to economic support (have a trading consortium within your character's, 'Court,' to accrue wealth).

Ul'dah certainly has more of a hand in dealing with the Ala Mhigan refugees for certain, but for the most part, they are a downtrodden and abused people, taken advantage of by wealthy merchants not just as a source of cheap labor, but also as scapegoats, muscle, and expendable resources in their various plots to acquire power in the Sultanate.

I'd also suggest trying to learn the lore of Ala Mhigo in depth as you go, because you'll certainly find other Eorzeans questioning any effort to reclaim Ala Mhigo. It was the aggressor nation for the Autumn Wars in which Ala Mhigo had attempted to conquer Gridania. The Eorzean Alliance formed because of that conflict, actually. Likewise, given the previous King of Ala Mhigo needed to be ousted in rebellion, you might want to consider your character's role as a Noble and what that could mean towards your cause.

Would it work to say he has swore Fealty to one of the major factions and his hope would be to bring the territory under their rule? I was going to go with, his parents escaped with him when the king tried to murder everyone who opposed him. So he would be a refugee from Ala Mhigo to start. This might help in the eventual taking of ala mhigo since he might possibly get support from the locals of that area. But I might end up making him from such an obscure family that no one really knows them.

The Nobles who managed to survive the reign of the King of Ruin are all compromised in some way. To have survived they crossed lines they should not have crossed, they sacrificed, they scrounged, wheeled, dealed, and somehow managed to not be purged. Some turned and helped ouster him as well, but whatever societal compact had been in place seems to have been shattered.

There's a lot of fodder for interesting stories in here.

Ala Mhigan lore isn't my forte unfortunately, but that being said it is within reason for him to have supported one of the three Grand Companies. However, any expectations of reciprocated support would probably be entirely one-sided, as the Grand Company strive for the preservation and advancement of their own nations and the Eorzean Alliance at large. Given how 3.55 is launching us into Ala Mhigo as well, I would say the Ala Mhigan cause is not the most cherished at the moment.

That said, The Immortal Flames would likely be the Grand Company to provide the most support to the cause of reclaiming Ala Mhigo due to Raubahn.

You stated that you've recently started playing FFXIV? If you haven't completed the MSQ I'd recommend experiencing it and then beginning to work towards this RP goal. Though it couldn't hurt to try and make threads for interest checks around here to see who'd be interested in joining you.

I'm not sure where you'd make a thread like that, but probably in the RP Discussion section. Make sure to note what RP server you'd like this to take place on. At the moment Balmung is closed, so the more popular options are Faerie, Siren, and Mateus, as per This Poll. It might also be worth seeking out the leaders of other FCs on which server you choose to see about collaborative efforts towards liberating Ala Mhigo, as well as how far your character's authority there could feasibly extend with the community of the server.

While we don't know exactly the relationship between the remaining nobles and the other Ala Mhigans, just going to toss it out there that the King of Ruin only kept the nobles alive with no claim to the throne and those who actively supported his cause. If he had but an inkling that they might betray him? He ended up executing them.

Sadly enough his wife and a group of nobles conspired against him to end his madness, who one of them ratted on the King. They all got executed, including his wife. This only fuelled his madness.

The Corpse Brigade got forgiven though, by the younger generation of Ala Mhigans, but those who remember still despise them. But we don't know if that also applies to the nobles. There's one remaining noble who has a claim to the throne, that is the Monk trainer. However we are not sure if people know that he is such, seeming he never speaks of it. I think he is aware of it himself, seeming the lorebook speaks of something along the lines of him leaving the temple due to not wanting to ignore the plight of his people any more. But besides that? We haven't heard of noble Ala Mhigans NPCs at all.

What brings me to... Ala Mhigans PCs, might hate the shit out of your character by default. Provided they know of the character's lineage. Either they might blame him for his family for being the King of Ruin's supporters, or failing to remove him.
Not to say you know, children are meant to carry the sins of their forefathers, but you know, Ala Mhigans are a jaded group of people! Hopefully Stormblood will clear up more lore surrounding (surviving) Ala Mhigan nobles and the non-nobles.

Also swearing yourself to one of the three Grand Companies is not going to do much. Ala Mhigans are (rightfully so) angered with everything in Eorzea to ignore and abuse them for over twenty odd years now. I believe Ilberd described Raubahn, as a bull without balls who had forgotten Ala Mhigo in favour for his comfortable life in Ul'dah, while you know, his people were out there suffering. While I cannot state that Ala Mhigans share that opinion with Ilberd, given the sway he had over the Resistance, it might be a common mindset. The later quests in the MSQ bring up the topic as well that the Ala Mhigans feel ignored and discarded ect. (Not to mention Ul'dahn nobles found it hilarious to sick exotic beasts on Little Ala Mhigo and bet on the outcome. Who knows they might even despise nobles even more so now, even if they are not from their own society. Raubahn did stop that though. But yeah.)

Personally, I'm predicting (banking on) Garlemald razes Ala Mhigo before we get the chance to liberate it for a number of reasons. But with Stormblood coming in the next month, we're bound to get some sort of resolution to Ala Mhigo.

Its a very rich background, but it should not be thought if in the sense of the nobility of Ala Mhigo being expected to march back into Gyr Abania and lead their people to victory. The relationship between the nobles and the remnants of the region's population is complicated to say the least.

I am not new to FFXIV, rather, im new to RP in FFXIV Smile

Â so I do know the MSQ for sure. BUT I was unaware that we are going to Ala Mhingo in the next xpack. The idea was to find a super obscure noble so as to be able to claim nobility, but not to actually have any political influence. I don't want to conflict with other people's RP. So I think an Ala Mingo noble is probably not what I am looking for. I will need to do some more research for some way to make nobility work within our current realms or maybe from a nation on another continent.

The only one of the Eorzean states that curently have much in the way of nobility is Ishgard. They have quite a bit of it on the other hand.
You could be from some obscure minor house there, which would grant you a title and little else.
See the level 51+ BSM quests for some ideas of how life can be for a minor, impoverished Ishgardian noble.
