I made a speculative naming convention thread in my impatience for the Au Ra. I think it's a little more complicated than just picking some Japanese names, as all the Doman's have very archaic, out of common use Japanese names or some derivative of it.
I do believe we'll see a TON of modern day Japanese names despite it though. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=11252

My current character, a Miqote, currently has a Elezan name. I've always loved dragons and dragon-kin in every rpg since forever and hate making alts, so I'll probably be changing over to an Au Ra.
Either way, my character was already adopted by Elezan parents so the name sticks, and since it's likely they would be good with magic, perhaps through their assistance my character uses a glamour on himself to look shorter, make the horns look like ears, and the tale look more catlike, get all Animorphs up in here. Interestingly enough, reading into how the Raen and Xaela sound..one being entirely more tribal and the other more secluded [if I read that right], and then them giving us Yugiri's name as a standing Raen, my speculation is that the Raen may have more names influenced by similar means.
But the Xaelan may have their influence from tribal and slightly simpler/primative [if you can call it that] connotations and influences. Just my 2 cents.. I've got a name in mind for my fellow. Just trying to wait for the naming guide to reveal itself and see if I can make it work

Devs confirmed that Raen follow Doman naming conventions (basically archaic Japanese names).

Looking at the names of the characters in the Ninja quests, the Raen conventions seem to be Japanese First Name + English surname composed of two words (adjective+noun/noun+verber), and somewhat related to the first name's meaning in Japanese. My doubt is: are the surnames decided at birth, and SE just made puns by foreshadowing the characters' nature through them? Or are they sort of "titles", that the Doman gain after achieving/becoming famous for certain things, and possibly affected to changes?
I mean, in the case of Karasu Redbeak, the 'red' is referring to the blood that he has spilled in his betryal to Doma. Obviously, his parents couldn't know he'd do that when he was born, so did he gain the "Redbeak" surname only after doing the evil deed? Who knows. For now, the tentative name for my Raen will be Aki Rainfall (Aki means "autumn", and autumn is rainy). But I'll be waiting to make sure to know how Doman surnames are gained by lore. To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.

I was just posting that devs confirmed X'nath's speculation about Raen, nothing about Xaela, then you quoted me and responded about how you were waiting on Xaela lore.
That's fine if you are, but it literally had nothing to do with my post whatsoever.

I'm going to stick with what I've got. Honestly, I'm not ready to go through the main scenario again just to get to Heavensward and new classes when I've got a perfectly good, fun character I'm playing now.
It'll be interesting to see if Hyur becomes a minority though!
