OOC Information!:

Welcome to the golden sands! A weekly combat tournament based out in halatali, a professional combat show! Up close melees, long ranged guns and bows, and mages all alike welcomed. Come fight for fame and glory and fortune! Hear the roar of the crowd as you set up your signature move!

Alright, i'm trying to figure out how i want to explain this ... and i can't come up with that right words, so hopefully i can get the image across.

So think of the rune stone, the grind stone, combined with the glitz and glamour of the coliseum and showmanship and silly narratives of wwe. That's what i'd like to aim for with this event. A martial tournament with some silly narrative and narrations going on in the background, perhaps some personas going on and just ... a show for the crowd and fighters both to enjoy!

So come on down to the sand gates/halatali on wednesday 8pm EST!

IC: Posters set up all throughout the city states "New combat tournament, the gold sands!". Retainers handing out linkshells to gruff looking sorts and bored looking individuals, anyone who made eye contact with the retainers ended up with a link pearl "We're announcing the gold sands really soon!"

Once all the pearls have been handed out "Greetings Everyone!" A woman's voice spoke across the linkshells "I am Snowel Silwin, Head of Silwin industries, soon to be the top magitec workshop in all of Eorzea*! And i'm here to announce ... The gold sands! What is that you ask? why, it's a combat tournament! come by halatali on wednesday to find out! Test your strength or come to view the show! Bring your stories and your blades and your lust for fortune and fame!"

RULES:

1: Do not attempt to kill or seriously maim your opponent. Anyone who makes an attempt on the life of their opponent will have their own life ended as well. "Silwin Industries is not held responsible for loss of life or limb, but we can guarantee an Eye for an eye policy. If you attempt to kill anyone, fighter or viewer, your life is forfeit."

2: Combat will be /random based, each fight will begin with a roll for initiative and then go on from there. If players wish to use rolz or similar websites, both parties should agree. If you're un sure of something, please ask questions!

3: Be respectful towards each other (ooc! feel free to trash talk icly all you want! egg the audience on and become the villian everyone loves to hate!)

4: Punctuality! If you wish to fight, please be lined up by 8pm EST sharp! We don't want to be waiting too long for things to get started, and announcements and rules will be reviewed as the event starts.

4: Rules on weapons. Icly all projectiles will be blunted/blanks suitable for non lethal yet damaging shots, and magic should be more flash than bash! Make it as showy as you want, but it's power will be considered non lethal and limited.

* advertisement may be false and silwin industries is not responsible for crushed hopes and dreams of employees.

haha,i was originally going to go with a different name then the golden sands were suggested, i had only noticed a ls/fc post for it in the linkshell hall a couple hours after posting this.

Thanks to everyone who showed up at the event! it a huge success and a lot more than i could have hoped for showed up!

Now, before the next one starts up, i would like to take suggestions for the event.

The area i chose for the event seems to be rather cramped, and more intended for a smaller turn out, perhaps a location change is in order? perhaps out around the lake in dry bone?

Also, funding for winner prizes. Unfortunately i don't have much free gil to be able to fund many ooc prizes, soo ... i'd like some opinions, ideas or suggestions.

Perhaps charging a small entry fee, which would go to the winner? Community donations?

Let's here some suggestions!

Another idea i had... perhaps if people would like to advertise ic businesses or fcs at the event, perhaps charging for advertisement to build up the reward?

Evening.

Before the grindstone was funded by the people who ran the event, the people in charge used to charge a 500-1000 gil fee for entry to fund the prize pot for the winner.

Also, the event tonight was great. I was really happy I managed to win. 5 hours into the event and the finals match was an hour long but the win felt very satisfying.

Advertisements is an interesting idea. Otherwise I wouldn't mind a small entry fee. :)Â I think the setting in front of Halatali is nice given the dungeon's original purpose, but there certainly were a lot of people, as you say.

I had a lot of fun at the event and look forward to more. I was just a spectator but it was quite a learning experience. :D
