What follows is a list of unofficial, player-made Ishgardian noble houses and their members with the purpose of helping existing and aspiring Ishgardian roleplayers establish connections, personal story background/lore and such to provide more juicy, happy RP fodder.
Is it important to note that for the sake of equality, no one of these houses should be considered equal to the official High Houses of Ishgard, nor superior to the other player-made noble houses. See this thread for a reference of how the Ishgardian society and its hierarchy would look like.
Similar to vassals, it is however possible for noble houses to pledge, be allied to or related through minor boundaries (engagements with distant relatives, mixed blood heritage, business, mentor/pupil relationships) to the High Houses. By minor, I mean that no existing High House NPC should be involved (example: I am Jandelaine's cousin!). For such, I will add a voice in the template to indicate the High House that your noble House may favor over the others (it should always be one). Note that this would result in rivalries and possible conflict with families pledging/allied to another High House.
Also, due to the specially xenophobic nature of Ishgard per se, I will add a voice to indicate which races have been currently known/allowed to be a part of a noble house. This voice can be updated over time, so if your noble family that initially was comprised of only Wildwood and Midlanders suddenly has a rebellious heir deciding to marry a Miqo'te, this can be noted. If you wish to join a noble house made by another player, but your race is not included in the allowed/recognized race of the family, please address personally to the OOC owner of that noble house and see if changes can be arranged. We are trying our best to be friendly and welcoming to anyone, note however that who posts a new noble house is free to self-moderate applicants to it however they so wish.
Please post to have your own Noble House listed here or your membership to one of those already listed if allowed to by the OOC owner. Lore-friendly names are encouraged but certainly not required!
Please refer to this thread for discussion related to the Ishgardian social structure. Discussion of the specific player-made families is allowed here, however keep it light.
Special thanks to K'nahli as I am using her Xaela Tribes thread as reference to organize these.
Here's a little copy/paste block for easy typing:
NOTE: Though only Balmung and Gilgamesh directories are currently listed, I will gladly add more if people apply houses from different servers!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Green names indicate characters that remain as active members of a noble house.
Blue names indicate characters whom are no longer affiliated with their noble house.
Purple names indicate characters whose current noble house connections are yet undisclosed.
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: Durendaire
"Once a house known for providing talented knights, all what remains is the widow of Lord Aillard, the Lady Orianne. Common rumour has it when the lord of the house saw his only child, Geralt, perish against the Dravanian Horde without leaving any offspring of his own, he took his life as his line had died out with his son's death."
Included Races: Wildwood Elezen
Members:
Lady Orianne (NPC)
Footnotes: House created for personal storyline, no additional family members accepted due to the house's background. However feel free to use the rumour surrounding the house if you ever feel like gossiping IC.
Clemenceau
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: Durendaire
"House Clemenceau is a minor house known for producing many loyal knights and proper ladies. They have been sworn to House Durendaire since the early days of Ishgard. They are known for their piety, loyalty and honor."
Included Races: Wildwood Elezen.
Members:
Lord Roustebant Clemenceau- (NPC Retired Knight and Patriarch or the house.)
Lady Leuvianne Clemenceau -(NPC Wife of Roustebant)
Ophelie Clemenceau (PC- Youngest daughter, currently disowned)
Lady Celestine (NPC, Eldest Daughter)
Lady Lisellaie (NPC, Middle Daughter)
Three unnamed brothers. (NPCs, Knights)
Footnotes: Anyone who wishes to play a member of this house is free to, if they send me a message first either here or in-game so we can sort out the details.
D'Monchette
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: Vassal to House Dzemael
"House D'Monchette was known for scientific and alchemical advances. Mostly in terms of medicine. They fell from grace when Lord Louis D'Monchette turned Heretic and took half of their forces with him to the Shroud. His older brother, who had passed the inheritance to Louis in the first place, was forced to take command of the House. He was a poor ruler, and the house stagnated.
When Louis D'Monchette returned and killed his brother, his nephew took the title. Calleaux D'Monchette was more eager to rebuild his house, adopting the new practices of the Machinists into his ranks and training a small number of them. The House itself had a small number of Knights to command, and has been working to recruit more as well as the help of outside mercenaries. Once again they began trying to excel in the field of science and alchemy, creating things from simple potions to specialized ammunition for the Machinists' guns.
Recently, they recruited the help of a Temple Knight to help them bolster forces and try to gain prestige again. They know their place as low Nobles, but they do not wish to be looked at as potential heretics any longer."
Included Races: Elezen (Both kinds) and Hyuran servants and Knights.
Members:
Calleaux D'Monchette (NPC Head of household)
Draco Nobis (PC - Arbiter)
Louis D'Monchette (NPC - Deceased Heretic)
Ser Darmont (NPC - Deceased House Knight)
Ser Geoffrey (NPC - House Knight Commander)
Footnotes:
House D'Monchette has fallen from standing slightly, becausefof the actions of Louis D'Monchette. They are a weaker house now, but attempt to gain back allies and power.
Dufresne
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: House Durendaire
"A lesser house known for being "new money". The Dufresnes are working wealthy not unlike those found in pre-Revolution France; the Baron Emmereaux and his wife, the Baroness Olivie, are both common-born but, through years of hard work and no shortage of clever maneuvering, were able to buy their noble titles. As to be expected, they are not yet taken very seriously among the longer-established houses, and are still trying to find their footing where respect, prestige, and power are concerned. If nothing else, however, this affords them a great deal of potential mobility, and it has honed the members of the house into adept players of political games.
The house is most famous for running the Dufresne Bellworks, a foundry that specializes in casting from large molds. Anything from church bells to dragonkillers to -- more recently -- airship parts is their primary specialty, and as such they work closely with the Skysteel Manufactory. Because industrializing Ishgard is the house's primary concern, the vast majority of land they own is for mining rather than agriculture.
Because House Dufresne is still new, their forces are quite meager, and for now they are only able to commit a small force of knights to House Durendaire. Most are stationed in the Western Highlands, while the remainder patrols the Central Highlands. More recently they've begun training machinists and siege engineers to help man the walls at home, a project that allows commoners in their employ to fight for Ishgard -- if they are so willing."
Included Races: The Dufresne family itself is Wildwood Elezen, however their servants, guards, workers, and knights are Elezen and Hyur of all varieties.
Members:
Baron Emmereaux Dufresne (NPC Head of household)
Baroness Olivie Dufresne (NPC Lady of the House)
Lady Eliane Dufresne (PC Heiress)
Lord Juleaux Dufresne (PC Heir)
Ser Martiallais Heuloix (PC Retainer)
Arcian Martell (PC Bodyguard)
Cordellain Montesseur (NPC Servant/Messenger)
Footnotes:
Dufresne is pronounced "Du-frain" -- no, really!
The Dufresnes are definitely an odd house known for their eccentricity, gregariousness, generosity, and hard work. They are happy to get involved with anyone and everyone, whether high or lowborn. Whether you need some fellow blue-bloods to rub elbows (or battle with) or you need employment for your character as a reason for them being in Ishgard, we'd love to play with you! Contact Juleaux or Eliane in game and let's plot!
Dunant
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: House Durendaire
"A militarised household, known for its tradition of requiring its members to have served a minimum five years within the Ishgardian Military to claim full membership having passed the age of eighteen. The household is split into two branches under Dereniart Dunant and Levinth Dunant respectively.
Not known to be exceptionally involved in matters of politics; House Dunant prides itself on its martial prowess and participation on the frontline where it invests considerable time and resources in return for generous allowances from its liege to sustain itself."
Included Races: Wildwood Elezen
Members:
Dereniart Dunant (NPC)
Ellia Dunant (NPC)
Alueaux Dunant (PC)
Levinth Dunant (PC)
Footnotes: Alueaux heads up the Dereniart side of the family while Levinth leads the other giving two sides to approach. The Dereniart side of the family is known to be much more Xenophobic of the two; Lord Dereniart is rumoured to have fathered a large number of bastards which is a common point of gossip.
Durand
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: House Dzemael
"House Durand is almost primarily duskwights, save for a few of mixed heritage through marriage, though the latter is fairly uncommon for Durand. They have strong genetic traits that follow the male line (dark skin, white hair, pale eyes).
They show their strengths with aetherical manipulation, many of the house members showing promise in varying branches of magical schooling. It isn't uncommon for members of House Durand to impliment their potent aetherical abilities into their martial combat as well, claiming them to be a discipline passed down since their bloodline's days in the Coerthan caves. Knights and clerics are produced strongly through this house, and usually take up defensive arms for House Dzemael in their operations.
They're known for their conviction, loyalty and honour."
Included Races: Duskwight Elezen
Members:
Jacques Durand, lord of the House (PC)
Olivaux Durand, uncle to Jacques (PC)
Guillaume Durand, uncle to Jacques (PC)
Trevant Durand, Jacques' younger brother (NPC)
Lynne Durand, Jacques aunt (NPC)
Crystalle Durand, Jacques aunt (NPC)
Footnotes: I'm always open for interactions with other people playing nobility within Ishgard! Though, there may not be a whole lot of room at this moment to allow for any other PC's of the house. (House Durand is pretty involved in a storyline with my FC). If anyone wishes to know anything about the house, or its members for the sake of juicy noble gossip, I'm all for it.
Farendaire
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: Fortemps
"House Farendaire, a family of minor noble stock, was founded five centuries ago under Abelard Farendaire, a sworn knight of House Fortemps who earned his station through valor and the defense of a Fortemps heir. While never a large house, the Farendaire name grew to be regarded as a relatively wealthy family for its size and has produced scores of clergymen, knights, and dragoons. The Farendaires' coffers and manpower have generally been tied heavily to the fate of Camp Dragonhead.
The fortune of House Farendaire has waned in recent memory. Two decades ago, the vast majority of the able-bodied members of House Farendaire fell by Dravanian flame and claw in a particularly vicious battle, leaving only four surviving members in the form of Celinae, Aronaux, Judiel, and the aging Melenaux. Additionally, the Farendaires' close ally in House Embrelle, of Lady Celinae's bloodline, was massacred by spiteful members of House Vairemont. The Temple Knights have not taken action due to Vairemont's successful cover-up; crying heretic, it seems, worked well."
Included Races: Wildwood Elezen only invited to partake in the bloodline, thank you very much. Foreign races permitted to serve, however, once such individuals have proven themselves sufficiently.
Members:
Lord Aronaux de Farendaire - Current Lord
Lady Celinae Farendaire - Mother of Aronaux, Judiel, and widow of the former Lord Galendor.
Lady Judiel - Would be an aspiring clergywoman if not for the Orthodox Church's strict dogma.
Lord Anthony Valron - Cousin to Lord Aronaux and Lady Judiel by way of Lady Celinae's mother, Lady Antionelle de Valron.
Past Members:
Lord Galendor de Farendaire - Perished by Dravanian flame along with the vast majority of his House.
Shalinor Embrelle and Lady Angelique - The brother and sister-in- law of Lady Celinae, murdered by the Red Ball of House Vairemont.*
Footnotes: *Yes, that is a thinly-veiled reference to the Red Wedding. Judge me~
Halgren
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: Fortemps
"House Halgren is a minor house within Ishgardian nobility, name supposedly having etymological roots tying back to old Elezen names akin to the likes of Haldrath and Thordan. One of the older houses, the house enjoyed a strong, secure place within the walls of the city, playing a bigger role in politics than in the war. However, during a particularly vicious period of extended Dravanian assualts, House Halgren suffered greatly, leaving a singular successor to the name: Charloix Halgren, an Inquisitor. After the dust had settled, Charloix quickly took a wife, Reillette, a cannoneer he had fallen in love with during a siege by the Dravanian Horde. Some believed that Charloix consorting with a commoner spelled the demise of the House."
Included Races: Existing family is Wildwood Elezen and one Hyur, servants and periphery are Elezen or Hyur
Members:
Count Charloix De Halgren (NPC, Patriarch and Inquisitor)
Reillette Halgren (NPC, Wife of Charloix)
Orrin Halgren (PC, my character, adoptive son of Charloix and Reillette)
Rodiath Halgren (NPC, Biological son of Charloix and Reillette, though Orrin was adopted before his birth, Rodiath is now the one set to inherit the family name and responsibilities as though he was first born. A scholar of the Saint Reymanaud Cathedral in order to properly finish his schooling and take on responsibilities as a nobleman)
Footnotes: House Halgren was always a small house which shrunk even smaller with its most recent tragedy. As such what is listed there is who is of the house and I don't RP enough to take on servants or any sort of retainer because they will be bored out of their minds. However, House Halgren was house of much gossip both when the lineage was about to end and when Orrin was taken in as a child.
You are free to use the house in reference to politics of the past or its current turbulent situation any thing else would make it better to contact Orrin Halgren in game.
Haton
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House:Â Fortemps
"A minor noble house in Ishgard under/pledged to house Fortemps. In addition to producing one dragoon to serve the Holy See every generation (said Dragoon is next in line to inherit the house), they are a family of weapons experts and military strategy. Â They research, develop, and (while working with the Manufactory) produce leading technologies and weapons in the fight against the dragons. They are known for their upstanding loyalty and military knowledge."
Included Races: Wildwood Elezen (only)
Members:
Asheloux Thalantos Haton (PC)
Theosoix Haton (NPC/PC--next leader)
Oscarlet Haton (NPC--leader of the house. Not a dragoon. Took over fromÂ
Arthurioux Thalantos Haton (deceased, was supposed to inherit instead of Oscarlet)
Footnotes: My character was recently adopted back into his family. I have an alt for Theosoix made but never logged in on him. Â Open to have more people join if they want...just ask me first. Currently conducting a lot of Aether research and allowing Asheloux to continue to develop his weapons for Ishgard.
Hildegarde
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House:Â Dzemael
"During many years shadowed by the war, the House of Hildegarde was involved personnaly and financialy in the hunt for heretics and the protection of Ishgard against the Dravanians. The House provided many knights and was devoted body and soul to the Inquisition and the protection of the Holy See, and its name was associated with the values of heritage, family, piety and duty, with a rigorous morale.
Unfortunately, the war took away the 3 sons and heirs of Lord Adhémar. After the presumed death of their sons, Lord Adhémar and Lady Aurore were never seen in public again. The future of the House relies only on the freil shoulders of their last daughter, Lady Melisande."
Included Races: Only Elezen
Members:
Lady Mélisande (whom I'm currently playing): the rumours say that she was promised to a noble from another minor House, and that her family was about to announce her engagement. It never happened.
Lord Adhémar (NPC): a pious and devoted man. Unlike his sons, he never was the warrior-kind and dedicated himself to a more scolastic life.Â
Lady Aurore (NPC): she was dedicated to the Inquisition, and raised her children in the hatred of heretics, lowborns and strangers.Â
Footnotes: It's my first character on Balmung and I really love what I'm reading on Ishgard. I will be glad to welcome anyone who might be interested to play a member of House Hildegarde, just send me a MP or contact me IG for further details.Â
Laucent
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: Fortemps
"A previously rather large Noble House that was scattered by the Calamity, as it was mostly residing in Coerthas. Priding a long succession of proud knights and dragoons in its bloodline, it has now declined from the military life to devote itself to chocobo rising."
Included Races: Wildwood Elezen
Members:
Vincent Laucent (Blue)
Tatreaubient Laucent (Blade)
Madame Laucent (NPC, mother of Tatreaubient and Vincent)
Footnotes: Applicants welcome.
Recettear
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: House Haillenarte
"Originating from a bastard son of House Haillenarte that was never legitimized, Goultard Recettear took the last name of his lowborn mother several hundred years ago. Fighting in the Dragonsong War and taking the moniker of "The Rose Dragoon" with pride despite the implied insult towards his bastard heritage of House Haillenarte, Goultard proved himself in slaying a powerful wyrm by the name of Kvasir. Raised into nobility on the behest of his father, House Recettear has the unique inheritance law that the son or daughter that takes the mantle of Rose Dragoon shall be first to inherit, and should they die in battle, then the eldest child remaining shall inherit instead, with primogeniture favoring men. Due to the dangerous nature of serving as a dragoon, this has often lead to second born sons or daughters inheriting the household."
Included Races: Wildwood Elezen, servants are wildwoods and hyur
Members:
Lord Tristepin: Inheriting due to the death of his older brother as the Rose Dragoon, Lord Tristepin is a kindly if paranoid older gentleman that is well regarded for his stewardship of the family wealth, greatly expanding their coffers since his inheritance as Patriarch of the House. Lord Tristepin had become far more paranoid and concerned of late after the passing of his wife. (NPC)
Lady Auvette: Passing away during childbirth of their youngest son Percedal, Auvette was a strict but kind mother that was well regarded for her talent in music and playing a wide arrange of various instruments. She was born from another vassal house of House Haillenarte. (NPC)
Lady Evangelyne: The eldest daughter and child, Evangelyne in her early years began a martial education despite her father's insistence to allow her younger brother to take the title instead. (PC)
Lady Amaldine: The middle child, Amaldine is but sixteen and finishing her education in proper stewardship. (NPC)
Lord Percedal: The youngest child and second in line should Evangelyne die in service, Percedal is but a young child at the age of five. Due to his surprise birth and Evangelyne's inheritance now in question, the teenage Evangelyne took up the training of a dragoon in order to keep her inheritance without question. Percedel is a kind-hearted and sweet if not sickly boy. (NPC)
Footnotes: Feel free to contact me if in-game on Saga Bearclaw or Evangelyne Recettear if you want to involve your house's history with mine.
Travanchet
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: House Dzemael
"Known for their lineage of Dragoons, House Travanchet remained relatively quiet until their oldest heir, Solvaire, came of age. His troublesome activities and controversial political behavior has put House Travanchet in a newer light; making the simple vassal house a point of conversation around some smaller circles of Isghard as of late."
Included Races: Strictly Wildwood Elezen.
Members:
Solainteau Travanchet, Lord and father to Solvaire. (NPC)
Faine Travanchet, wife to Lord Travanchet. (NPC)
*Amelie Travanchet, eldest daughter of the family. (NPC)
Solvaire Travanchet, heir to the House of Travanchet. Esteemed 'golden child' of the family. (PC)
Valon Vaindelaux, retainer of House Travanchet. Close family friend, and honorary member of the house. (PC)
*- Deceased character.
Footnotes: House Travanchet, while known for their Dragoons, keeps their main connection to House Dzemael through their sect of culinary arts. A rising topic in Ishgard, any PC is more than welcome to use House Travanchet as a point of plot/conversation within their RP, provided you contact Solvaire Travanchet in game prior. Currently looking for connections for the House and interested in expanding the storyline!
Trebair
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: Independent.
"There are four High Houses within Ishgard, whom have stood tall for nigh upon a century. Unflinching, Unmoving, Unchanging -- even as the world around these Houses, around Ishgard Herself, has indeed flinched, moved, and changed. Smaller Houses have risen, if not to nobility - to riches. House Trebair is but one of them, new money in an utterly old society thanks to the increased demand for two commodities turned priceless at this stage of the Dragonsong War, Furite and Mythril. Trebair's fortunes have soared indeed, but money cannot buy distinction. House Trebair ride the tides of fortune --- albeit gracelessly, and with all the pomp and ceremony of Houses far, far above them -- earning the ire of the far greater Houses they attempt to emulate."
Included Races: Wildwood Elezen.
Members:
"Count" Dralent d'Trebair - A spoiled sap of a man, whose entire purpose appears to be meandering after his lady wife's whims - whims which have turned especially worrying as of late.
"Countess" Irone d'Trebair - An overbearing, overweening woman who is indeed a lady, in (purchased) title alone. Her arrogance is only rivaled by her vanity -- and her odd penchant for the macabre, something which has turned especially worrying as of late.
Evrant d'Trebair - How such a level-headed, approachable son could have been born from such sires is indeed a mystery -- yet the heir of House Trebair is at once approachable, and somewhat sweet. He aspires - as most born into a bed of absolute crazy tend to - to leave his house as soon as he is able, and fight for his country as a dragoon. His applications have been turned down repeatedly however, and all knights willing to allow the lad to squire for them have mysteriously disappeared.
Footnotes: Members of this House are. kind of. appable. kind of. Really, we'd prefer that the FC's story gets to a certain point before we start bringing in the big guns, but if you've an amazing idea, we'd love to hear it!
Otherwise, we're almost always on the look-out for mercenaries. If you like the sound of your character running around after completely egotistic not-nobles, send us a line!
Vainemaude
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House:Durendaire
"Despite its small size, it is known for its vast wealth and rumoured influence behind shadows of Ishgard's politics. Instead of warfare and the constant hunt for heretics, its dealings are in the trade and goods (whether the goods in question are legal or not). The family have been patrons for various artists and artisans that have helped create some Ishgard's most famous works of art.
Their success is thanks to their marriages of convenience, partnerships and their uncanny foresight predicting the economy. Their recent activities has brought their family under attention from competing houses and noble houses."
Included Races: Elezen Wildwood and Duskwood (However the current Lord Vainemaude has been known to have many mistresses of various races)
Members:
Lord Sebastien Vainemaude -(NPC) The current head of the house, shrewd, charming and ultimately ruthless. Sees every obstacle as a chess game and won't hesitate to use his flesh and blood as pawns. Everthe opportunist, he will grab at any chance to make himself rise higher and higher in power. If it will benefit hisend game, he has no qualms with betraying others. His end game is yet unknown.
Lady Estelle Chilvont - (NPC)Lady of another minor house, although many believe her to be weak willed and delirious. Spends all her time doting on her children, turns a blind eye to Sebastien's many adulteress acts. Has become more withdrawn from the public eye. The death of her only daughter has made her sickness of the mind progress even worse. Has very few lucid days.
Maurice Vainemaude - (NPC) 1st son of Lord Vainemaude and LadyChilvont, under the tutelage of House Durendaire. Set to inherit the House after Sebastien. A serious lad, whom unlike his father, follows a strict code of honor
Julien Vainemaude - (NPC) Secondson of Lord Vainemaude and Lady Chilvont, currently involved with Scholarly work within The Holy See. A normally easy going youth with a high amount of drive when it comes to pursuing his dreams.
Eclaire Vainemaude - (NPC)The only daughter of Lord Vainemaude and Lady Chilvont, posthumous birth. Had father's eyes.
Cloche Snowfield - (PC)Only known bastard daughter of Lord Vainemaude and his favourite mistress. Unable to carry the true name of Vainemaude,thus given the base-born name of Snowfield. Believed to be enrolled in the Chateau Rougechard (An academy for highborn women). Currently missing.
And a whole lot of retainers and servants
Footnotes: This serves mostly as a background for a few RP characters I have, if any are interested in joining, I'd be delighted to have any one come aboard!
Valron
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: Vassal of House Fortemps
"House Valron is a middle-tier noble house. Not the smallest, nor the largest, Valron's fortunes and manpower have also been tied to Camp Dragonhead for as long as memory serves. They, like their relatives in House Farendaire, are heavily invested in Dragonhead's defense.
Lord Anthony's father, Lord Alexandyr, was taken prisoner by House Vairemont and executed, with the young boy - 2 or 3 - forced to watch."
Included Races: Wildwood Elezen and the occasional Hyur in the bloodline - others allowed to serve once proven.
Members:
Anthony de Valron
Cousin: Lord Aronaux de Farendaire
Cousin: Judiel de Farendaire
Cousin: Celinae de Farendaire.
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: Durendaire
"A minor house formed when a Hyur thaumaturge by the name of Adalwulf Aschdenne proved a valuable ally during a small crisis involved a member of House Durendaire. As a reward Adalwulf was granted minor nobility, and the house continued to produce a lineage talented in magic. Destroyed about a decade ago on accusations of heresy."
Included Races: Hyur Midlander
Members:
Evelyn Bradford (has abandoned the Aschdenne name as a safety pre-caution)
Footnotes: If one wishes you can send me a PM if you want to rp as another exiled/surviving Aschdenne. Evelyn's brother, mother, and father were all executed on account of their heresy and she just managed to escape. What the house lacked in skilled warriors they made up for in prodigious mages.
Blanchimont
Blanchimont
Quote:Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: Pre-Heavensward Durendaire, Mid-HW on Fortemps
"House Blanchimont has some small reputation as soldiers for Durendaire, but in truth the majority of their influence comes from the number of skilled alchemists and healers that have born the name Blanchimont. In recent years, however, House Blanchimont has faced several minor scandals as several of the Lord's children have left Ishgard for southern Eorzea and greatly distanced themselves from the Holy See, the eldest son going so far as to declare himself an unbeliever and adopting a Miqo'te daughter.
Because of these scandals, when Lord Arstide died defending the city after the dragon horde broke the city walls, the house was thrown into turmoil. Some wanted Felt, the eldest son, to assume his role as Lord, some wanted Felt's daughter, Iris, to ascend to the position due to her prominent role as a Scion of the Seventh Dawn. Still others fought for a minor cousin or other. Because of the unpleasant possibility to have an unbeliever or a foreigner as a noble lord, Durendaire quietly declared Blanchimont's lands vacated.
However, due to the prestige granted Iris Blanchimont in the defense of the Steps of Faith and the Scions' long friendship with House Fortemps, the family's nobility was reinstated by the other High Noble house. This was contested by Durendaire until the Scions were honored by the Archbishop following the defense of their order in Trial by Combat by the Warrior of Light him/herself."
Included Races: Elezen Wildwood and Duskwight are the overwhelming majority, other races are ostracized by the house pre-HW change in leadership.
Members:
Lady Iris Blanchimont: Current house matriarch, albeit a very permissive one. Most day-to-day affairs of the house are left to other prominent family members as duties (and shirking of responsibility) often require Iris elsewhere. A Miqo'te found adrift off Vylbrand's coast and adopted by Felt Blanchimont. PC on Lamia.
Lord Arstide du Blanchimont âœ:Former patriarch, killed during the ward breach in 7AE 1 defending the people of Ishgard from dragon attack. He was very forgiving of his eldest son and daughter and doted heavily on them.
Lady Jeanne du Blanchimont âœ: Wife of Arstide. Jeanne was one of the alchemists working on the plague that affected Ishgard's chocobo stock in late 6AE. She died shortly after the calamity from complications due to the sudden change in Coerthas' climate.
Felt Blanchimont: Father of Iris, unsuitable for patriarch due to controversial statements about the Archbishop and the Holy See. Felt has worked as a trader between Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah. He dropped the 'du' from his name to better fit in with southern culture. Eldest child of Arstide.
Visse Blanchimont âœ: Felt's sister and part-time caretaker of Iris. Visse worked as an alchemist in Limsa Lominsa until 6AE 1564 when she responded to a crisis in Thanalan. She died treating those injured in the Mythril Pit incident. Second child of Arstide.
Beatrix du Blanchimont: Youngest sister of Felt and Visse, she left Ishgard out of jealousy over her father's favoritism. She was considered a contender for matriarch following Arstide's death but ultimately lacked family support for the position due to relatively few significant meritorious acts in service to Ishgard. PC on Faerie.
Footnote: Not sure how feasible this backstory is, I'm not done with HW so I'm not perfect on Ishgard society lore.
To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.
"What makes a strong character is how they deal with their flaws, their fears, their turmoils, their troubles that get in the way. That's what makes them relatable." -- N.C.
