*Ahem* That is why you have a friends list ^^. I run Ifrit all the time with people in my LS'! It's the only thing that breaks me from my crafting addiction. Most of my crafting classes are now higher than my battle classes ; ;.Â

And DPS queues are always going to be the longest with any game.

Yep, 100% this. The one thing that's put me off tanking is the "tank is god" mentality. You're expected to know the most efficient path through the dungeon, the tactics for every boss, spot a pat a mile away, hold aggro over dps who're targeting the wrong mob, bake a cherry pie whilst standing on your head, etc. It's a hell of a lot of responsibility to pile onto one role. It wouldn't be quite so bad if you were allowed to make mistakes as you learn but more often than not you get slammed in the face by a rage train.

If people want more tanks and shorter queues, they should work together as a team, share some of the responsibility and offer helpful tips to new or struggling tanks rather than shouting at them.

I must agree wholeheartedly that I am in the same boat. Tank's are treated as such due to the fact that they are the literal HEART of the team. They are expected to do everything perfectly-and without flaw. It's just how gamer's minds are hardwired now it seem's.

And when you have a new player taking on the role of Tank-you can see some spark's really fly at the newby. It offsettles and makes players less likely to take up the mantle and disheartens those whom would have truly enjoyed that class/position/role.Â

Some people are just too uptight. Mistakes occur. Relax a bit and don't put on your sh*t kicker's too soon.Â

Doesn't help that everyone expects everything from the Tank, and doesn't look at the DPS for doing something akin to a chicken lacking a head.Â

Hell, even Vet-tanker's are prone to accident's and issues at times.Â

So. Work together as a team. Relax. Help each other. WIN.

Disagree. Â From a healing perspective, if I Repose a mob in a group, the rest immediately aggro on me. Â Even if I get to the tank in time, 9 times out of 10, he won't be able to pull them off me fast enough to keep me from dying. Â The best thing for me, as a healer, to do is to simply run to the other side of the tank and pray. Â Even if I hit Shroud of Saints, if I'm the only person with threat on those adds (and I will be if I'm healing the tank, which I will almost certainly be doing since we're dealing with another pack), it won't matter. Â They'll still come straight for me. Â And because Regen is a primary mana-saving healing tool, there's an extremely high probability that I'll get threat before anyone else no matter what I do - because I can't click the HoT off another player. Â They have to do that themselves, and by the time they do (assuming they even think to do so), it's too late.

So honestly, as a WHM, there's not a hell of a lot I can do to control anything in this situation, especially if the tank is already being beaten on (since I can't really stop for 3 seconds to try to get a Repose off that one of the DPS or the tank is going to break almost immediately) and risk the tank dropping.

The bulk of the blame is just basically situational awareness. Â If you see a patrol approaching, the best thing to do would be to back away. Â But the tanking game being as it is, it's hard to watch chat, the area around you, and do your job, so I can't completely blame the tank.

Wipes happen.

Seriously, wipes happen even to the best groups. maybe someone made a mistake or lag happened. Sometimes in a boss fight bad luck happens when it comes to mechanics or the circumstances making it impossible to avoid damage. There have been plenty of times when a wipe happened, it was nobody's fault but someone still ragequits anyway.

Take a break from the game regularly. no really, stepping away from the keyboard for about 15 mins is great for calming down after a stressful dungeon run.

Practise makes permanent. Practise with guidance makes perfect. Don't be afraid to ask other players as to how they do things, or anything at all. it's always best to look silly for a moment then to live in ignorance.

Agree with most of this, but when someone is repeatedly ignoring what they are told, it gets very frustrating (especially with no way to kick them). Â Case in point: Did Stone Quarry with my tanking buddy. Â Trash pulls were much better, but the Summoner with us was dead on the floor every single boss fight. Â Now, it wasn't because I just hated him and didn't heal him. Â No, it was because he just fucking ignored everything we told him to do. Â On the second boss, for instance, we asked him to stand near me and the other DPS so that I could hit him with my AoE healing. Â We were tanking the boss close to the cannons to make getting to them easier on the Dragoon DPS with us. Â What did the Summoner do? Â Camped out by the door, completely out of range of my healing. Â So after telling him in /party repeatedly to get over here, I just gave up and stopped trying. Â I explained after the second wipe to please come over by me. Â Did he? Â Nope. Â Stood by the door and ended up dead on the floor. Â Again.

This crap happened every single boss fight. Â We basically 3-manned the dungeon. Â There's nothing you can do about it when someone just won't fucking listen. Â Nothing at all, and that gets to people real quick.

It's because everyone, and their mother's, DPS (figure of speech). Queing with a tank or healer, or being one yourself, takes less time in ques. Sadly there is so many people that do DPS that the que must take a longer time to process all of the requests, and fit you into which one you want to que for. It sucks.

Yeah DPS ques. I typically try to do a combination of Queuing, asking in Shout and asking my LS. Sometimes I'm lucky. Sometimes I'm not. Sometimes I'm even asleep waiting for the que xD. Heck I'm still searching Brayflox for my infantry chest piece I might as well try grinding there till 40 xD.

That being said it does kind of make feel guilty the fact that I've chosen Monk out of all my other war classes to cap to 50 first when I intend to cap them all anyhow. But considering the amount of work that the tank has to deal with, maybe its for the best at this moment. DPS through all of the future dungeons then go back and learn how to tank them when I pick up PLD or WAR again. Being a fresh new tank in an unfamiliar area seems to be a stigma in game with a lot of PuGs.

Off-topic: Can I get in on that Titan smack down(assuming its Trial Titan) as the second DPS?

You definitely can get in on it. Heck, you're already on my friend list, so I don't see that it'd be that much of a huge deal! I was gonna actually ask you earlier, but you were already in duty-finder for what I assume was the hunt for leopard underpants, so I didn't want to disturb you.

Also.. Not trying to sound mean or anything but why is there a thread for this? :l Dps queues have always been like this in any mmo with a 'duty finder'. Just gotta befriend a tank or healer and ask them/join them when they do stuff.. Saves the hassle with dealing with annoying derpy randoms.

Edit: Also I'm a Warrior tank and if you need a queue for any dungeon 1-50 (Except AK.. I tend only to do that annoying place with people I know a bit, sorry.) Hit me up and if I'm not busy or anything I most likely will not decline your request for help. I <3 the Titan fight btw.. Just saiyan.
