I honestly would think it'd be fun to do without letting them know what is inside the drink. It's like kind of DnD plot twist where DM decides to do something to screw with your mind.

Again, even in regards to D&D, people are very fickle about their characters when it comes to roleplaying over an MMO or a format that does not have players communicating with one another in person. As such, doing such a thing would probably upset a player about performing such actions without permission.
It's silly, but it's just common courtesy to ask before forcing a scenario onto someone, even if it's comical.Â
