Artifact armor in FFXI became shorthand as AF, and when Dynamis came out and dropped "upgraded" recolored versions they became known as AF2. It was all job-specific armor that was highly sought after, and in some cases so exceedingly rare that if you saw someone wearing something specific (RDM/BLM hat, THF hands, PLD body) you knew you were looking at someone who was in a good group.
