'Fantasia' seems to be becoming an alarming common cop out in this community. You're free to do whatever you want, of course, especially since you seem to be aware that it isn't everybody's cup of tea.
I would suggest taking some time to reconsider your options though. Why not wait until we have some solid lore on the Au Ra and then build a character around that? Heck, taking your time and avoiding the initial rush in favour of a more distinct and lore friendly character may end up being much more beneficial than trying to justify various plot devices that some role-players will see as being very forced.
