Please post I am actually curious.

I figured I'd chime in here to point out that the RPC doesn't define what constitutes RP in XIV. In fact, the membership of the forum is at best a significant minority of the total RP community on Balmung -- so there's not really a community consensus (run a search for White Mage some time to see how polarizing that is; despite some of the statements here, that is in no way settled lore

With that in mind and the magic admin hat off, though, as others have pointed out, most RPers in MMOs tend not to like it when what is asserted to be a true about a character OOC doesn't appear to be possible in lore. The further afield the character goes, the less accepted it is. If a character clashes directly with extant lore too (Odin is a very specific entity in Final Fantasy, particularly in XIV), that's a huge turn-off. RP, being a collaborative activity, is rooted in meshing your story with others'. A character that's far away from the lore is very difficult to mesh, so it reduces your opportunities for RP.
Allow me to propose a challenge. If your backstory will never come up in character (as a way of avoiding the issues above), what benefit is it to have in the character's storyline? An element of a character that never gets discussed, never gets mentioned, and is known only to that character doesn't add anything to the RP, but it certainly can provoke negative responses OOC. If it's not adding anything to the character that others will see and there are lore-friendly alternatives, why keep it?
You could, for instance, easily go the "Terra" route of your character waking up in an unfamiliar land, with vague memories of battles and warfare, but no memory of who she is, where she came from, or where she is now. That lets you fill in the backstory later as you see fit in a lore-compliant way (dimension hopping, at least from other FF games, is canon in XIV if you decide you still want to go that route) while offering a hook for RP in the present and not including elements that, as you can see, tend to produce a rather negative response OOCly.
