I dunno what I really have to offer here, if anything. IT's all pretty much been said.Â
Lore breaking, people not liking that, do what you want, yada yada.
Here's a bit of insight from my end, maybe. I used to play WoW, way back in the day. I played a Draenei Shaman.. I adhere'd to the lore, but wanted this character to be.. Different. Not the same every day Draenei that you saw. So, rather then having one that grew up in Draenor, or.. Whatever the continent in the Burning Crusades was called, Rahalin was born on ARgus - The original Draenei homeland. Draenei hadn' tbeen on that world in.. Hundreds of thousands of years. So, Raha was something like.. 21000 years ok (As old-ish as Velin, who was canon and old as balls.) He'd been stored in cryostasis on the ship the Draenei took, and he was still in cryo when that ship crashed on Azeroth (The primary world of WoW.).... Because of how old RAhalin was, and the fact that he'd been in Cryo for.. SEveral thousand years, he had no clue as to anything. At all. He didn't even use possessive nouns in his speech - It was a lot of talking using body language, and using 'is', 'are', and 'am' randomly where it didn't seem appropriate. He was a BLAST to RP. People had a lot of fun with him.
When I moved over to FFXIV, I wanted something similar. I wanted to play a character that had grown up as a 'wild child', to explain why they spoke so brokenly. But.. I came to understand that that wasn't really lore appropriate. It just.. Didn't.. Fit, like it did in WoW... And because it didn't fit, ID idn't think I would have as much fun doing it. It was too off the wall, and too hard to make it work.Â
Sorry if this gets off topic. IT's mean as a demonstration to show how character concepts are not universally acceptable. What works in one world, may not work in another... And if it doesn't work, that doesn't mean we should force it.. My opinion, is that we should take the world SE made for us - And what a wonderful world it is - and use it.Â
Or something.
I dunno, I ramble too much.
