Removing rep is just putting a band-aid on a gash.
People like the rep because it helps others feel good for a post they made. For example; you sat down three hours to make this wonderful shortstory, it helps to know that people liked it; or if the user made an excellent point and people liked it. If people are misusing it or using it to promote bad behavior, then that's a problem that needs to be individually addressed between the user and the moderators.Â
In other words: it's not going to help, to put it bluntly.
